ok, first, i'm not a sony fanboy. just because i prefer the ps3 and choose to defend it while it get's attacked doesn't make me a fanboy. that term gets thrown around like a cheap hoe nowadays. i enjoy games on every platform, which is why i don't commit to one platform. but like somebody before me said; everybody has a slight bias to one platform. mine is the ps3. i said ps3 is public enemy number 1 on this site, because i honestly think it is. nothing to do with conspiracies. i just think it is. that gives you no right to call me a "fanboy". i'm allowed an opinion and i'm going to use it. it's not like i think my console is god, like certain console owners on his site. now, i'm not saying everybody that doesn't have a ps3 has a beef against it. but some people are just ridiculous on this site. like the OP said, the price cut excuse, and the let's wait until...excuse, are just getting tired. just like the wii is a fad, and rrod is getting tired. today is a new year. NONE of those excuses are excuses anymore. so give it a bloody rest. |
I can accept that statement. But given I, and some other people on this board (like Madskills for example) are in a similar position with the 360, please ensure that you call people out for attacking us as much as you call people out for attacking logic-based sony supporter's.
starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

@ Libellule
I was talking about the 20gb PS3 I picked up a week ago, not the 40gb. The 40gb plays PS1 games, but not PS2 games.
I was referring to the statement that I'd never pay for a PS3 without BC. I paid for it to be shipped - that's it. I did pay for the 20gb PS3, though.
I hope that helps!
| DMeisterJ said: Okay readers. I'm going to assume that we've all completed math and such right? Okay then. I'm only going to use U.S. numbers, as this is where the confusion lies the most, as other territories have had less SKUs. The PlayStation 3 launched in November of 2006 with two separate SKUs: One had a sixty gigabyte hard drive (600). It also had wireless, and memory card readers, unlike the twenty gigabyte version (500) which lacked the aforementioned amenities. Shortly thereafter, Sony Computer Enertainment America decided that the demand for the twenty gig was not strong, and decided to drop it. After that, Sony dropped the price of the sixty gigabyte model to five hundred US dollars. They then introduced the Eighty gigabyte Motorstorm Limited Edition pack for six hundred US dollars. So for those keeping count, that is one price drop. The forty gigabyte Version of the PS3 came out in november, sans b/c, memory card readers, and two usb ports. It was priced at US 400. This is not a price drop, because it is a whole different Sku. And the 80 gigabyte received a price drop to 500 US. So yes, the PS3 has had "two price drops" on two separate Skus. By that same token, the Microsoft XBOX 360 has had three right? Thank you everyone for reading, as clearly, there was some confusion over the different PS3 Skus. Hopefully this will quell the two price drops in six months line... mmkay? |
Finally someone creating a thread about this. I was getting pretty sick of people saying that the ps3 got two price cuts.

ok, so your logic is that a new SKU can't be a 'price drop'
so i can launch a console today for $1000 that is a 100gb model of my product
then next month I discontinue that one and create a new sku for an 80gb model that I price at $500
that would NOT be a price drop by your logic
however, to the average consumer, it IS a price drop...the price dropped from 1000 to 500
originally the ps3 cost 600 for the most expensive model...the most expensive is now 500...that is a drop to consumers
originally the ps3 cost 500 for the cheapest model...the cheapest model is now 400...that is a drop to consumers
we can argue over semantics and spin it how we want all day long, but to the consumer, the ps3 is now cheaper to get into and is also cheaper to get the top model
Bets:Missed by 420k I bet leo-j vg$500 that wii will sell 31 million by 7/31/08. Sorry, I don't think he has enough vg$ to make it with all of u that wish you could. ==> so the sentence "I paid like $30 total to have that 40gb PS3 shipped to me."
should have been "I paid like $30 total to have that 20gb PS3 shipped to me."
OK

LOL ... nah, Monsieur ... I paid $30 to have the 40gb shipped to me. I bought the 20gb PS3 locally and paid $300 for it.
I can see the point of the original post but as has been discussed a console is seen as 1 system, we never had different SKU's in the past except at the end of a consoles life when the company would shrink the system down and stop shipping the last version. The PS3 and the 360 have taken on a whole new route and tried to change what people think a console is. I just wish Sony released 1 Sku and stuck with it for awhile. This constant change up routine is just confusing consumers. Can't we just put whatever size HD we want in the thing anyway? I would have much preferred if they stuck to that as the way for consumers to choose what they want rather then what we have now....
Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.
So, in the end, there is only 1 price cut??? lol
I can accept the fact that the PS3 can be found $100 cheaper now, but come on people, we saw two models at $600 getting a price cut separated by several months, thats two, and doesn't mean that is a $200 price cut...
""LOL ... nah, Monsieur ... I paid $30 to have the 40gb shipped to me. I bought the 20gb PS3 locally and paid $300 for it. ""
==> why have u buy 2 PS3 if u only wanted the 20gb and since the 40gb doesn't have the BC u should not hav bought it ?
