| shikamaru317 said: The closest console to compare to the Xbox One is the PS3, like the Xbox One it was only available in a handful of countries for the first few months, when you add up the size of the game markets in those countries they're about even (the Xbox One has a slight game market size avantage, but the size of the markets that the Xbox One is available in is closer to the PS3 than any other console). Like the Xbox One, the PS3 cost $500 at release (for the base model). Here are the Xbox One's sales compared to the PS3 up until March (when the PS3 released in many of it's missing countries):
As you can see, the Xbox One has been ahead of the PS3 every week so far, though the gap has been shrinking recently (which is because the PS3 was more supply contrained early on). Assuming that the Xbox One can stay ahead of the PS3 every week throughout January and February (which is why I said that hopefully the Xbox One will sell at least 70k each week throughout the rest of January and February), the Xbox One will be in a good position come March when Titanfall releases, as the Titanfall boost should match the boost that the PS3 saw from the 47 countries it released in throughout March and April. If the Xbox One releases in some of it's missing countries before the end of April the Xbox One will definitely stay ahead of the PS3. The PS3 went on to sell 9.2 million by the end of it's first full year on the market, and the Xbox One is keeping ahead of it so far. In other words, the Xbox One should sell at least 9.2m by the end of 2014, quite possibly more. |
Great post. A lot of research went into it it seems :)
The average prediction according to Seece's thread is i believe 10.2m first year. Which would be pretty great in my opinion if so.
