Like that's the worst case scenario. Of course I don't expect them to release their biggest game broken.

Two different teams for Halo, one team from MCC and one for Halo 5.
I think the launch of the Halo 5 Beta is more of an indication on what's to come for 5 as oppose to the team that did MCC.

Regardless of the team behind it, MS knew it wasn't ready.

Did they though? The biggest issue by far with Halo:MCC was the matchmaking, and 343 has suggested that the matchmaking was working fine in their internal beta testing. I don't think either 343 or MS expected Halo:MCC's matchmaking issues. The problem wasn't that they didn't delay it, it's that they didn't do any large scale beta testing, if they would have done a large scale beta test they would have discovered that the netcode couldn't handle heavy loads, and I think MS would have delayed it in that case. They should have learned after Halo 4 that it's a mistake to not do a large scale beta test. Now there's a good chance they knew about the relatively minor singleplayer and multiplayer issues that Halo: MCC had, but they were probably expecting to be able to easily patch them within a week or two of release, they didn't realize that they'd have to devote so much of their manpower to fixing the matchmaking that it would take longer to fix those issues as well. |
I think they did. Halo 4 had lots of issues too. They should know hundreads of thousands of people play Halo games at launch. How come most other games don't have similar problems? Clearly they released it much earlier than it was ready. And the fact that it took 3 months to finally fix proves they rushed to release it. Even now, they haven't fixed it completely. For example, online co op still has problems and they reduced the big team battle size to 14 players for some reason.

Halo 4, at launch, had no technical issues. In thar regard, it had a successful launch. Halo 4 online stumbled in regards to the core mechanics of the game and playlist decisions. That's where it suffered.
And do you honestly think that any of these companies would release a game in such an awfully broken state and take the risk of permanently damaging the brand as a whole, and on top of that spend millions more post launch to have the teams rush to fix the issues, on communications pr, and the compensation items??
And let's not even forget that microsoft's new party system (rumored) that was supposedly used for Halo MCC was possibly a major factor in the online issues.
Halo MCC is the first MS Studios published title to have such major online issues upon launch. It was never a trend with MS games before MCC.

I've played Halo 4's multplayer more than anyone else here. There were lots of issues for months ranging from lots of lag, to waiting more than 15 min to find games and being booted out randomly from matches. And those problems lasted for months.
Depends on the situation. Releasing a game in November or December will make more money than any other time of the year. The X1 needed a system seller last year and MS knew Sunset Overdrive wasn't enough.

I've punched in hundreds of hours into Halo 4. Got it prior to launch day. Played with countless people over the years and not once did we have any of those issues you've mentioned. Lag happened, yes, but not any more or less than what I experienced in previous Halo games.
If this stuff happened to, and for MONTHS?...well, then I'm sorry for your experience, but you seem to be in the small minority that experienced such issues.
The closest bad experience I experienced in Halo 4 was the first day of launch, where waiting times were right around 2-3 minutes.
edit: if you get back to me, I'll probably reply in a bit. Need to play some Ori.

I think I hold that record
maybe not, what's you MP time? Anyways H4 didn't have that many issues from my experience, I was pretty lag free when it wasn't a mexican or colombian host (it's p2p afteralll). I also never had any trouble getting into a match unless the servers were down (which happened a few times for a short amount of time).
H4's main problem was the actual gameplay from me, the actual technical side went pretty smooth for me and I'm not the biggest fan of the game so I'm not trying to save 343i/MS's ass
