In Horizon 1, the chief issues were that some people thought the physics were a bit too arcadey (we don't know if Playground has addressed this or not) and that the map was too small and confining (we know that the map has 3 times more driveable terrain and that you can go off road now). In Forza 5, the chief issues that people had were with the the prices for cars in-game (Turn 10 fixed this in a patch, so Playground will likely use a better pricing scheme from the get-go), the microtranactions (unlikely to be removed or scaled back that much, but you can still earn any car in-game so I don't see how it matters), that the drivatar system turned the game into bumper cars (we don't know if this will be improved upon), and that the graphics were bad in some places, such as 2D crowd models and foliage, and aliasing artifacts (it looks like Forza Horizon 2 has a noticeable graphical upgrade over Forza 5 so far). A chief issue in both Horizon 1 and Forza 5 were the small car lists (they've said that Horizon 2 has hundreds of cars, so at least 200, probably closer to 300, which is more than either Forza 5 or Horizon 1 I think). So it seems to me like most of those issues are being fixed or improved upon. Meanwhile it looks like the only competition this year will be Driveclub and The Crew, since EA is taking a year off from Need for Speed, and new games in other racing series haven't been announced yet (and aren't expected to be announced). I honestly can't see The Crew beating Horizon 2 in reviews based on what I've seen and heard about the game, and I'm unsure about Driveclub since I don't know know how much content it will have or how good it's driving physics are. |
I think it has a chance! I am really happy to see that they removed invisible walls since I really hated those in the original!
