 GAME buys Gamestation for £74 million

Very bad for the highstreet consumer.  Expect prices to stay high.  More people will have to start buying games off the internet from now on.

If you can wait a few days for the game to be delivered, it's worth it.  It's unbelievablt how much of a difference in cost a game can be from High Street to Virtual Street.

I must be dumb, what is "high street."

Why would you buy games from the highstreet anyway at launch. Personally, I buy nearly all my games at launch from amazon. The only time that i go to game is if I am taking back used games. The only other times I use Game (although normally the online store) is from exclusives (I will be buying the Spiderman 3 CE PS3 from there) or for an older game, where sometimes GAME is cheaper than amazon or play, the only other two retailers I use in general

Wow, I had no idea High Street was a Britishism. (And my wife is American so I notice these things.) Most towns/cities, a lot of shopping is still concentrated in the town centre. This is traditionally called the "High Street". Often literally (it's the name of the street) or often just as a generic name. So the High Street price is what you pay in a store on the main street of your town. Actually i haven't seen it as one word before (highstreet) but anyway.

That's what I figured...I've just never heard that term before...crazy Brits. Maybe the US equivalent to this phrase would be "Main Street"...but we don't say "Main Street shops" or anything like that as far as I know.

Why is GAME expensive? I don't know this stuff.

I always buy my games in the actual stores here in the US. The cost after 6% sales tax is close enough to the cost of buying online + shipping, plus then I have it right away.

EDIT:  The Wii is at 6.66!  It is the devil! 

Most decent online stores do free delivery on games.  And you are more likely to get a game a good bit cheaper online than in a store.

An example is the recently released Valkyrie Profile Lenneth.  You would normally pay £29.99 in Game and HMV, but you can buy the game online for £17.99 a saving of £12 or $23 for the yanks.

This is a huge difference...you could effectively get a free game by buying this game online. 

BenKenobi88: Would you say "The mall price for this is higher than online?" That's a closer equivalent these days than Main Street as I understand it. Interestingly a lot of Brits like to say "mall" to rhyme with pal, because I guess a famous street in London is Pall Mall pronounced Pal Mal. (Actually this is etymologically linked with Mall). Anyway, this pronunciation is funny because every other word ending all is pronounced the same as the Americans say Mall. All, ball, call, fall, gall, hall, pall, tall, wall.

I buy my games online and like yuo say you can almost get two games for the price on the high street. Unfortunately my own 'I want it now' generation of children prefer to save their pocked money and buy a £40 game immediately rather than saving money but waiting 3 days.
