i would say.....165k

Did you ever think that this was the week that the fad that is the Wii is finally showing its faddy colors. You see eventually people will realize that Wii is a fad and people will stop buying them within the next 6 years.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I don't remember what I said in the SSBB thread #100234, but I think I predicted about 150k Wii's in Japan this week, which would send it about 50k units past last weeks numbers.
As I've said before; the amount of gamers (i.e; people who will want SSBB) owning a Wii is probably much higher than people think, so the hardware won't get insane boosts from it. It could yield a slight but very long boost, however.

180k wii sold in japan i predict

@ mummelmann, the question is, will SSBB attract a different audience to LoZ or SMG, or maybe now is the time that they have finally been able to get a wii

over 200k of Wiis sold in Japan....

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

150000 Wiis sold in JP, I think 200K is too much.

QFT, the Wii is doomed to go the way of the dinosaur..we all know that eventually a giant meteor will crash into the earth and even the Wii won't be able to continue monstrous sales after mankind is gone. I expect that post-meteor sales will be around the 20k range or so.

People said similar things about Halo 3. If we look at the Halo bump, 360 sales were up 20% three weeks leading into Halo's launch. 360 moved twice the number of units at launch week as it did one month earlier. 360 units declined from this high at a rate of only 5-10% drops per week.

Given how tepid the Japanese market is on almost all console releases, I think a 1 million first week in Japan is very comparable to a 2.8 million first week in the US for a game.

It's hard to try to predict what a similar bump would look like in Japan for Brawl, because a month ago was holiday season. Also, the Wii hasn't shown the same kind of steady buildup of sales that the 360 showed prior to  Halo's launch. This could either be attributed to your assumption that most Brawl buyers will have a Wii already being correct, or the tight Wii supply situation.

In any case, it will be interesting to watch what this title does to the ever mysterious and unpredictable Japanese market.
