Forums - Gaming Discussion - My one issue with the "exclusives" argument

Yes, your stupid story definitely disproves it.

BF3 was not on the wii, so is BF3 exclusives to the PS3 ?

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

The reason it "doesn't count" is if Jim has a good PC.

For someone like myself who has a rather beastly PC: Choosing a 360 is rather foolish compared to the exclusives found on the PS3.

Not only is the 360/PC games available for me on the PC but they are also better due to the hardware being newer as well as them at.. times.. being.. free (Pirates.. derp)

Walking around here in Scandanavia and you'll see barely anyone calling a 360/PC game for exclusive due to the fact that so many of us are PC oriented.

So you're saying Jim died in vain?  I know dozens and dozens of people that game on consoles.  Every girl I've dated in the past few months has had a Wii and some crazy fitness game.  I probably know two people that game on a PC and I've never seen someone actually do it in person.  Yeah, there are a lot of PC gamers in the world but the pale in comparsion to the actual console gamer that will spend money on the newest iteration of Grand Theft Auto.  Don't belive me?  Wait for the sales figure on the next big multi-plat title.  Even if the PC version is highly superior, console sales will eat it alive.

How is this about sales? I thought we we're talking about Jim.

It's a matter of society as well. Are you American by any chance? In Scandanavia, I believe there was a test that showed that 95% of gamers are on the PC even though they own consoles. I don't know a single soul anymore here that defends the 360 out of "my friends" (derp), because everyone here has a rather decent PC that they would use to play any games they truly want. It's not like 80% of games are 360/PC either, it's a handful.

I understand what you are saying but you have to acknowledge my position as well. For me: The 360 is an atrocious choice when comparing it to the PS3: Given the fact that PC is so common here.

I think a game on multiple platforms is a multiplat.

Entire libraries should be compared, but its the real, true exclusive titles like StarCraft 2, Super Mario Galaxy, Halo 3 and Gran Turismo 5 that define said platforms. Its the exclusives that differentiate your platform from other platforms.

If your "exclusives" are on another platform, theyre meaningless in a discussion about exclusive titles.

Then thats the root problem, we should stop comparing "exclusives" and just compare games on one and not the other to truly see differentiating offerings. But this will obviously disrupt the power position the PS fans hold and therefore will continue to hold true on their stance

Power position? You admit that PS fans have a power position in an exclusives argument? Im surprised, but appreciate the honesty.

The problem with comparing full libraries, is largely because the 2 consoles generally share what, 95% of eachothers library?

When you look at libraries, I think theyre fairly even. For what the 360 lacks in exclusives it makes up for in PC games not on PS3.

u can spin it any way u want the ps3 still has a more diverse and longer list of exclusives then the 360 AND its not stopping anytime soon. Both have a great list of games and it comes to taste but at the end of the day the 360 isnt getting any more exclusives.

So really, thats an admission that PS can't stand up by itself against Xbox?

Because in a strict PS vs Xbox debate, neglecting these types of games seems silly. Bringing in a PC to fight PS battles.....thats what these types of replies sound like.

No. You can't play PS3 games on PC... you need the PS3 for most of games.

You can think in this way: 360 + PC vs PS3 + PC what give you more games? Remember EVERYBODY HAVE A PC.

Just because you have a PC doesn't mean you can play any PC game on it.  My PC is a low-end laptop that can't play AAA games, or at least can't play them at high graphics settings, which is one of the main reasons one would game on a PC IMO.  Even for a game like Minecraft I'd rather play on 360, since I get achievements and since the multiplayer is easier to set up.  I have zero interest in spending the time or money to build a fancy-schmancy rig that can keep up with next-gen titles, and I don't want to have to think about hardware upgrades (outside of buying additional storage devices, which looks like something I'll have to do this coming generation no matter what platform I play games on); I want to play games on a platform that lets me get into my games with little hassle and doesn't make me learn a whole bunch of technical jargon.  And even if I mind learning the technical stuff, I don't have the money to invest in two platforms (at least not right away, or when one of them is PC which is more expensive hardware-wise than console).

So just saying "well everyone has a PC, so why buy an Xbox" isn't gonna cut it.  For people like me who are console-only, it doesn't matter if an Xbox game is available on PC, because PC gaming is not on our radar at all.

I think it has less to do with what game you can buy and more to do with which console should you buy, but yes, a lot of the arguing is pretty shallow......

It happens on all sides, not just Sony. Just thought I should say that.

Also the word exclusive has really lost its meaning with this generation. Sure you  can throw around "Console exclusive" or "HD Twin exclusive" but seriously =>

"ex·clu·sive - Not divided or shared with others."

If you can experience it somewhere else: Then it is not exclusive in any way. Period.

What's all the fuss about?
All this just because of a simple list that wasn't accurate for some?

I so close to pulling my hair out! I'm not saying anything is exclusive!! I AM NOT SAYING ANYTHING IS EXCLUSIVE! I'm just saying compare library to library! Before I reply to one guy, another has already replied about having an exclusive game on PC! Stop it!

I'm sorry, Jim. I've failed you. Bob has won again.

lol yup, the exclusive argument is pretty indoctrinated into their mindset. Neither of us are talking exclusives and yet here we are.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.
