Forums - Gaming Discussion - Requirements for game to be considered AAA

A AAA game is a game I really like.

A AAA game to everyone else is a game that's been overhyped.

I agree with you naz, even games likes Lair are considered AAAA. I think it's very stupid.

Actually, the original use of the AAA system was 85 percent and up. Somehow, it's been relegated to the 90's, which is a bit unfair, imo, since a lot of "love it or hate it" games deserve AAA status.

Here is a list of what I consider AAA titles to be:

1. Receive largely positive reviews.

2. Improve the library of the system they are on, in a significant way.

3. Sell well, not necessarily great, but as well, or better than expected.

4. Seperate itself from other games in its genre.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

In another thread today I stated that there are only a few series that deserve AAA.

Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Halo, Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, Pokemon
and maybe: Metal Gear (Solid) and Resident Evil

AAA does not describe a particular game that scores high, it's about series that throughout the years delivered quality, very high sales and system selling abilities.

Imo AAA is used far to often on these forums these days.

Nthing this. I really think that it's a moot point. Good games are good games, and system sellers sell systems. The term "AAA" is superfluous.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

I'm with Naznatips, the fact is that everyone misunderstand this term, and only leads to any kind of fights in forums, for someones is a +90% in gamerankings (even if this site is only for make your own opinion, not a "bible game" or something)for others is the game capable to move systems or "systems sellers" for others are games that sells insane amount of software, even are the ones that think that AAA games are simple the most influential or revolutionary at the time the game is released,In my personal point of view,it´s a mix of all these things the kind of a special key game, but that "AAA" thing is almost annoying, here in Mexico(my country)sound like a wrestling league.

That's what I always thought a AAA game was.  A game of a series/franchise with a history of high quality/sales.  Then people say Resistence FOM is AAA... the term is being thrown around too loosely.

Hmm if we can't use triple "A" anymore maybe we can use triple "X"?

So what do you guys think makes a game a XXX game?
