I think it´s exactely the opposite.
This doesn´t explain why japanese audiences loves so much Rpgs, while in the West they´re not as widely appreciated. Wouldn´t it because western audiences doesn´t appreciate difficult strategic games ?
For me rpgs/strategy/tatics games will always be harder than action games.

Now.. I really want to know what is the source of those japanese consumers lines.... some of them are just strange, or just seem like fanboy talk

It's funny because that's the type of game his most successful console is known for.

Did the NES had that many RPGs? Or are you talking about the Gameboy?

Gameboy and Pokémon.

I'm trying to think of the last western game i've played that was at all difficult.

Gamers the world round are weak.

Surprised Miyamoto would say it since... well he has gone out of his way to aide the pussification of gamers by making games easier and more accessible. But you can't say any major Japanese franchise outside of Monster Hunter and a few legendary hard games have maintained their higher difficulty standards in recent years and the rise of Visual Novels and Dating Sims to be among the most popular doesn't make him look like he is wrong.

Are they sure this Miyamoto, he hasn't been this truthful in... forever.

To me so much of this comes down to design. By the time a game starts really putting the player through their passes, they should well invested into the experience and the challenge should be gradual, not steep.

This is strange news considering that Dark Souls is a Japanese made game, made for no particular audience. I suppose that explains why its so popular here in the west.

I suppose the terminology 'Eastern' gamers might radically change soon if China removes their restriction on video games. It will be interesting to see if the Chinese demographic have the same tastes as Japanese gamers.

When in the world did the world get flipped upside-down?

I thought us 'Mericans were the one's who quit games that we were too stupid for?

In the 80's and 90's the Japanese liked difficulty in their games and could play an array of Japanese made titles. Today they have to adapt to the American or western way of gaming which is a totally different style of difficulty and entertainment. The question is whether they are willing to make the shift. I know gun games might not be to their liking all the time but it doesn't mean one cannot try.

I wonder if this is a misquote. Because it seems like an extremely un-Miyamoto-esque thing to say.

I agree. It seems a little too harsh. There wasn't even a *laughs* at the end of it.
