And just like that it lost the "record" to Marvel.

To be fair, Smash Bros Melee is significantly older.

In the FGC, that doesn't matter one bit.

What would make you say that?  Just your opinion?

sf4 currently has 260,000 on niconico and 120,000 on twitch.

It doesn't. Fighting games become more hype over time.

So I guess that means if they streamed the first Street Fighter game, there would have been SO much hype.  Because what you said is totally backed by research and science.

Smash Bros Melee is 12 years old and Brawl has already released and the next Smash Bros game has been announced.  If you don't think that had some sort of effect on how many people cared or watched, then you really need to read more on how these things really are.

The first street fighter game wasn't a fighting game. People pay more attention as the fighting game developes more as long as it isn't replaced by a better game(brawl wasn't it). Marvel has gotten bigger each year. Much more people play melee than brawl as well. The evidence agrees with me.

You lost all credibility with that statement.  I read everything else, and it's also not true. You have no evidence.  I don't think anyone who knows what they're talking about agrees with you.

ACtually that statement has some truth.

The original Street Fighter was not a "Fighting Game" since there was no such genre, it was a action game. The genre eventually grew out of Street Fighter 2 but for the most part the original Street Fighter was just a arcade game where you played Ryu and went from one fight/stage to another. It had a versus mode but so did other side scrollers and action games, Street Fighter's main claim at the time of the original was pressure sensative buttons for different levels or punches and kicks along with "secret" special moves like the Hurricane Kick and Fireball.
