The government does NOT care about petty illigal activites, but potential threats to national security. Your cell phone calls are recorded and can be tapped into, your cable box tracks what channels you watch and the times you watch them.

MS did do something wrong, all that DRM crap. Happy? But Kinect being included is to have a unified userbase, as opposed to 360 kinect userbase. Spying is not MS's top priority and it never was. Its responses like yours that paint a picture of the minds of certain individuals. Get over yourself, MS doesn't care to wacth you play Skyrim in your underwear for 4 hours straight in the hopes you say something illegal.

XBot: "Yes Microsoft.  Thank you for telling me what to believe.  Hey why are you covered in blood holding a knife over that body?"

MS: "It's not a body, and this isn't a knife.  I am cleaning!  Go to bed!"

XBot: "Yes honey."

......wow. Total propaganda on your part.Firstly, this isn't MS's fault....it is the government who is in a position to request it.

And secondly, I am not letting this paranoia influence my decision to play videogames that interest me. You, like many others, are hopping on this bandwagon because its yet another way to make PS4 look better.

Like you gave a crap when your phone and internet history has been tapped for years. Gimme a break.

Nobody here likes that.  But we are unsure if there is anything we can do about it. However we can choose to Not pay for the worst form of it!

BS. Cellphones and internet is the most widely used form. You tolerate it because you need the features like calling and using internet.

If news would somehow break out that Sony gave PS3 consumer data to the government....you wouldn't play Last of Us/Uncharted or whetever? No.....you'd play anyway because you want to play these games.

Theres a few people here who genuinely are afraid of this stuff, but had the situation been reversed, you'd still play a PS3 or PS4 or whatever. This is cheap bandwagon hopping for the majority of people here.

"I don't mind paying $599, as its the cheapest Bluray player on the market"

But this was true.

"My credit card data was stolen, but they improved the security measures for next time"

I think I may have gotten some spam from that debacle but they gave me 5 free games.  It still was far from ok though.

"I don't mind waiting 5.5 years for the next GT, it just means that the devs are perfectionists"

No the dev is enefficient.

"Its fine that online multiplayer has a paywall now, at least it offers a better deal then Xbox Gold"

But it does lol.  It costs less and you get free games.

Point being: people rationalize all the time when they don't want to give up something

Door swings both ways.

My reactions in bold.

You are really gonna compare 60% failure rates and a console eating some of your games to actual facts like that PS3 was the cheapest Blue Ray Player.

Some people wanted a Blue Ray player, nobody wanted their games to get destroyed.  I swear the more you talk the more ignorant and nonsensicle you look.

You missed the point entirely. For a bluray player it was fine but for a gaming console it was outrageous. But fans rationalize when they want something. Everyone does it.

This is pretty funny for a few reasons. What would a Canadian know about us law?

if the Feds show up at your door, you say "got a warrant?" And when they say no you say fuck off and slam the door. Microsoft had that option, but instead chose to be compliant with an illegal request.

furthermore, your other argument is essentially that you've been raped before, so might as well bend over and spread for the next rapist.

People seem to be dodging the general idea that I want a X1 to play X1 games. And I am not letting stuff like this impact my choice. Had the situation been reversed, somehow I don't think there would be as many haters on Sony, them being gamers first and all right?

Funny the only dodger here seems to be you as you completely ignored my post.

this isn't about your insignificant choice in video game consoles.

You assume people wouldn't be outaged if this were about Sony. Just hilariously false assumption.

Nice agenda you have here.

Id appreciate an actual response to the content of this post and my previous post.

by the way, don't forget the lube.

No, this is about video games at its core, and your post is pure deflection. Smoke and mirrors.

I want a X1 for its games, and stuff like this ultimately has no impact on my decision.

My masturbation tendencies have nothing to do with this (yes I got your actual meaning, which is immature)

if you think about it, smartphones are the worst spy devices ever. and much more than any game console could ever be. yet people are willing to bend over for the government when it comes to smartphones... but not a console?
mobile internet data is collected, govt can hack your mobile phone camera to spy on you, your exact location is known at all times wherever you go. and shutting off your phone is not an option(in order to receive calls).
i could careless if they try to spy on my console gaming, which will only be plugged in after work. and as if were not already subject to general internet monitoring.

We need the internet and Cellphones, we don't need X1 or its NSA cam.

I am sure they are giving data.  But they didn't build a console entirely around the ability to.

Theres a few people here who genuinely are afraid of this stuff, but had the situation been reversed, you'd still play a PS3 or PS4 or whatever. This is cheap bandwagon hopping for the majority of people here.

OMG no.  I can assure you that I wasn't planning on getting a PS4 anywhere near its launch before it was announced.  But Sony said everything right, and MS said everything wrong.  If the roles reversed I would be just fine with an X1 or PC.

OMG you are trying so hard aren't you?  Responses in bold.

Ok. Can we at least grasp that the government is on trial here, not MS? Because if the federal government demands information to any american company/subsidiary, they would have to comply. MS getting fingered out is just wrong.

But yes, that is my stance. My rights? My life is no different then when I didn't know about this. Why should I care if I have nothing to hide? I am a 100% believer in the greater good.

Theres a lot of self entitlement going on here and many people here take the country they live in, and the relative safety of their day-to-day lives, for serious granted. Keep preaching, and well see what you say if god forbid your local subway station gets blown up.

Okay....I have to ask, did you read the article? More specifically this source link? http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jul/11/microsoft-nsa-collaboration-user-data

Microsoft claims they only provide information when mandated by law and only regarding certain accounts and identifiers. Yet....they work with the NSA to provide them access to Outlook emails before they are encrypted. That's not a specific target, that's system-wide. The amount of Skype calls collected by the NSA tripled after Microsoft bought them.....that has nothing to do with certain accounts or identifiers. Why would it triple simply because Microsoft bought Skype? Providing the tools to circumvent encryption....in any form....does not stay specific to certain accounts. It's the equivalent of giving them a master key, but telling them they can only go through this one specific door....the chances of them not opening another door are slim.

I don't have anything to hide either, but that doesn't mean I don't have a Constitutional right to privacy. If we start ignoring the Constitution...we are fucked.

The US government is the bigger devil here, but Microsoft and other companies are also in the wrong. I guess Kinect really does spy on you. I genuinely thought that people who said that were very paranoid. Not anymore.
