Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft is Pitching the Xbox One to Companies as a Business Expense

I don't know why people are surprised.... I always expected that from XB.... actually I thought it would have happened with Kinect and the 360....

put Skype on it with face tracking of the speaking person in an office and it makes a really good and cheap VoIP device,

add an office app and a skydrive app and you could have great power point presentation either voice commanded (you know instead of saying next to the secretary you say to the XB, or to look for that remote that breaks every 2 month or with dead batteries because somebody forgot to change them or charge them)

maybe a one note solution for touch enable screens becoming more common in companies conference room....

a CAD app to display 3d models that you can manipulate with Kinect during presentation and many other options...

just that you saved up money since usually a VoIP device and a PC with a video projector combo cost more than 499....

it's MS core business after all why not push it since it has a win8 kernel and a decent enough hardware compared to what PC you have in most conference rooms

It's the only way they can shift tons of them. But why have Xbox for, when PC is just better?

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

"therefore it is entirely possible to find apps down the road that could be of benefit for you and your business"

That is a bloody horrible sales pitch. Make your push AFTER the XO has those useful apps, otherwise people are going to look into it, see that it's not necessary, then forget about it.

There are possibilities there, though, but it's just going to be up to Microsoft to flesh them out. However, no one is going to buy one for their business because they MIGHT "find apps down the road"--not unless they just want an excuse to buy a gaming machine. Hey, why not, I used my business to buy a DreamCast and a PS2.

Aiming this at businesses and casuals it doesnt look good for the hardcore gamer

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

and why is that ???? it's pretty much a PC and PCs are aimed at casual, business and hardcore alike today.... it's not like it's gonna be Rare that is going to do a powerpoint app for XB or the gaming division that will sign partnership with autodesk autoCAD to make an viwer app for XB especially since it looks more and more likely that PC, tablets, phones and XB will share part of all of the store together soon...

I don't know why people are so worried and want to keep the console so gated when there are many possibilities and options to play with without impacting the primary role of the system....

This whole Xbox One campaing is misguided. Microsoft's gaming division needs to do a serious self-assessment because they are light years away from the message they were marketing in the early 360 days.

“The app story of Xbox One has yet to be written, therefore it is entirely possible to find apps down the road that could be of benefit for you and your business. With the processing power, snap mode, and connection to a large screen, that the Xbox One has, this device is capable of going from the ‘break room’ to the ‘board room’.”

Hey, why not spend 499 $ on some box that might or might not get some useful apps in the future that are already available on a pc? Sounds cool, huh? Please be excited!

Microsoft is really getting desperate these days.

yeah so desperate that they are on track to reach a 10 year high market cap....

and you guys did read that divisions are merging into a more integrated setup across all business units.... this idea is not coming from the gaming division....
