Trophies and achievements are a waste of time. The fact that people can manage to collect most of them is a sign that they clearly need another hobby or they are neglecting other parts of their lives. (This is generalizing)
Nintendo knows videogames are addictive and miyamoto even stated he'd rather kids play outside. By adding trophies you're just giving people useless goals with fake rewards that have no value.
Playing the game once or twice is one thing, but spending more time than necessary is not healthy.
I think the problem is when games give you achievement for completing such simply task like doing the tutorial or using a certain weapon, how can that possibly be worth any form of achievement or display any form of skill?
If Nintendo did do an achievement system I think it should based on how rare the achievement is compared to the no. of user of that game, instead of simply just unlocking the achievement in the first place. So if it was out of 100 points, you get 25 points if 75% have got the same achievement. But if only 5% of users have got the same achievement then you get 95 points instead.
So, you heard the people Nintendo, 61% of the world think you should have throphies.
For competitive games like Mario Kart and Super Smash, sure it could be done, but Nintendo doesnt really need it. Nintendo represents the simplicity of gaming where you just enjoy it for its essence.
adds a lot of replayability, so yeah
also gets people invested into that specific platform, so they are less likely to move away from it
I love trophies. My Wii U would get much more game time if it supported them. It was also the main reason why I got a Vita over a 3DS.

Platinumed Destiny, Vanquish, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, Catherine, and Metal Gear Rising. Get on my level!!
I have Arkham City on Xbox and Wii U. There are achievements for doing things like being creative in a fight, meeting Calender Man on each real life holiday, or finding Azrael and hitting him with a batarang. As a result, I have made an effort to do these things on Xbox 360. On the Wii U, I've made no such effort. Achievements, when used properly, encourage you to explore or test your limits doing things you wouldn't have otherwise.
I think they're stupid, but I do have to say it was a smart move of Microsoft to include achievements from the start of the 360 and a smart move for Sony to copy them so quickly. For those that are trophy and achievement whores, trophies tie you to your account for that company and you're personally vested with a ton of points you'll end up losing if you switch over to the other side. While those points don't mean crap, you'll still lose them and start at whatever you have on the other side, either 0 or a low number if it wasn't your main console.
Sony recently released a copyright about getting prizes for trophies and the ability to sell/trade trophies as well as digital products. So maybe being a trophy whore on the PS4 will be a benefit in the future.
They are addictive, I remember buying games I didnt care about just to get trophies....Im so glad I got over that fad lol but yeh It would be nice if they had some kind of trophy system.
