Nintendo had two blockbuster successes in a row. Anything would pale in comparison to the Wii and DS.
The real problem is that the market doesn't know what to make of the Wii U, yet. The Wii was quite the zag when it launched, but this is an abrupt turn in every direction except the one Sony and Microsoft are going in. We understand gigaflops, but no one has ever seen a console that can act as a support the way the Wii U's gamepad can. Even the Dreamcast had to compete for TV function, so we've never seen a console remotely analogous to this.
It's quite the bit of culture shock, and the Wii U will need a few years to find its feet as a result.
