So I was listening to payphone by maroon 5 and it got me thinking. Will payphones eventually be phased out of existence? It seemed likely, but during weather disasters, people seem to use them alot. So I'm not sure anymore, what do you think?

Here in the Netherlands we had around 3500 of them.. because of a law that required a payphone for every 5000 people.. but they scrapped the law in 2008 and we are down to ~ 400... I think they will disappear..
I actually also don't have a landline anymore at home

Just curious. I haven't managed to hate them to death yet, and I'm starting to fear we're stuck with them forever.
They'll never completely disappear from hospitals, schools, sport centers, airports, post offices, hotels etc
They're just disappearing from public spaces.

Wow, I thought this was a thread from '95.
What Nikkom said, there are hardly any left here.
Given the initiative to give cell phones to the poor, the need for them will rapidly diminish, though as Lemon Slice said, certain locations will pretty much always require them for semi-emergency purposes.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
Payphones are hard to find in Australia now. I saw one a couple of weeks ago, and it was more of a surprise to me than a common occurrence..
