wii was an overclocked gamecube hardware wise, that's all there is to it. wii u actually has everything new with much more advanced cpu/gpu and ram memory than ps360.

Stop perpetuating this bullshit. See here for an explaination as to why it is wrong.

excuse me? graphics generating wise, wii was an overclocked gamecube. where did I deny the motion control and rest of the stuff? did you even read the context of my quote?

Don't use the context excuse. You were referring to hardware, and that includes everything that could be described as hardware. The things in my linked post are just as important as differentiators as a bump in clock speed and RAM complement.

I didn't imply that you were denying anything, but you are oversimplifying what "hardware" entails.

A generation ahead of the Wii isn't very impressive, in my opinion. A generation ahead of the HD twins is another thing. But that's no biggie for me really. It's more powerful than both and unlike some I'm actually content with the late offerings from both consoles this gen, so if the Wii U can at least do what they're currently doing then that's fine.

wii is the same gen of the sub hd twins so that's redundant.

Yes and a big fat no.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Yeah, the WiiU is a generation ahead of the Wii, but the Wii was a generation behind everything else out at the same time

That depends how you define 'Generation'

Generation is not power. if it was based purely on power then the GC was a generation ahead of the PS2, and the Vita is a generation ahead of the 3DS, but thats just not the case.

I define generation through 2 means:

1) the next console in production

2) some form of innovation

Going by this, i class the Wii U as Next gen.

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

The Wii U is a generation ahead of the Wii but try telling that to the average gamer who doesn't go on the forum to educate themselves.

The pad has a CPU? what for?

It's probably not very powerful. All those sensors and stuff need to be controlled and the data encoded for wifi transmission, I guess a single control chip is easier.

so basically, cheap. not even close to $100.

You're a troll.

Wiiu is a generation ahead of Wii....because, yeah, the WiiU is the Wii successor.

I mean.......this isn't rocket science.

If only everyone would get this concept.

If that's true, then no gen 8 system is truly next gen. All of the upcoming consoles are weaker than even a basic gaming PC, so they're all betting that power can't completely buy success. No suprise that Nintendo bet a good notch lower than MS or Sony to afford the gamepad, but ALL of them are betting low.

I'd agree, I wish they were a little stronger. More in the range of a 7870 or 7950 as oppossed to 7850 and 7770. But remember how much people bitched about an expensive console? That's what we get. Even though microsoft and sony are betting a little lower than I'd hope, the wiiU is going to have trouble keeping up with next gen consoles, and 3rd party devs are going to have trouble making games for all three consoles because of the power difference. If it had twice the ram at a faster speed, it might be doable.

Maybe, maybe not. This last console generation had PC developers porting to consoles stuck using console's tiny RAM footprint. The PC version of Witcher *requires* 2GB of memory, but with some tweaking it worked well enough on the 360's 512MB. Ported into a fourth the memory by turning settings down.

A fourth the XB1's 5 GB of memory available to developers is 1.25 GB. Now consider that the Wii U matches the XB1's eSRAM with eDRAM exactly.  The Wii U probably has no hope getting a PS4 exclusive ported into it, at least not without seriously short-changing graphics, but if a developer is already going multiplatform, chances are adding a Wii U version won't be too difficult. It just won't look quite as pretty.

Of course, most developers won't do this because the PS4/ XB1 are much closer and easier to cross-develop for. The Wii U's natural place seems to be a second console. It can provide a web-browser/ second screen to not interfere with someone using the TV screen, Nintendo's exclusive first party IP, and some local party games to complement another console's online multiplayer. Thinking of it that way, why does the Wii U need to be particularly powerful? If anything, it might be a touch overpowered for a support role.
