Skyrim isn't hardcore at all. Dumbed down Oblivion, and Oblivion was already a very dumbed down Morrowind (which is hardcore btw).

- Make a NEW RPG like Earthbound, with a modern and fun setting, call Louis C.K. to do the voiceovers.
- New IP like Metroid, third person exploration in a gigantic cripitc solitaire planet, a veteran spaceship cargo pilot crashs in this inospit place and has to find a way to get out and repair the ship, call Louis C.K. to do the voiceovers.

Sorry, Rol, but your OP fails due to the fact that you limit Nintendo's three big IPs to Mario, Metroid and Zelda to "stick it to the hardcore" when there are three other equally big and acclaimed IPs that would fill them with envy much better:

A new Urban Champion - complete with HD blood, bruises and bones protruding through flesh. No need to update the gameplay much from the original since the graphics and violence alone would sell the game.

A new Hogan's Alley - More blood and violence as selling points, with children and animals thrown in as targets for the sake of controversy.

A new Radar Scope - No need for blood and guts here because its hardcore selling point would be its deep story elements and plot twists: The Aliens being fired upon are revealed to be the good guys and the player's character is faced with a dilemma; keep blasting for a high score or do the righteous thing and help them attack the oppressive humans trying to stop them from their mission of peace.

Yes, because they can still make the IPs they açready have and have some other new, I am a genius.

It's one thing to boycott the new Mario and DK games, but not buying Wind Waker HD is just going to send the message that we don't want HD rereleases. And I for one really really want to play Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime Trilogy in HD.
