I still haven't seen a proper reason on why this distinction should matter to anyone.

Eh... that's not really a good reason.  If Sony fans want to view the Wii U as last gen, then that doesn't really affect me in the least.  People on the internet have different opinions to me, and I accept that.  Not going to prevent me from enjoying my Wii U.

There are people who are weaker and dumber than me who have been born circa 1995. Obviously they are not part of my generation.

you know nothing about power of WiiU and neither Neogaf nor anybody else and those who know hardly publicly share any knowledge, WiiU is designed to fit Nintendo requirements for hardware and as such is certainly powerful enough, it's part of eight generation as SNES and Genesis shared the same generation with Neogeo (vastly more powerful system), or Dreamcast with Xbox or Wii with PS360.

Nintendo designed WiiU to fit their visions, it will play their software you can't play their games anywhere else, they pursued their visions and not some unreachable goals as proper 3rd party support.

If you wish to play games you listed you can play them anywhere else, it's is simple as that.

WiiU has bluray drive but is not capable to play bluray movies (due to licensing fees, similar to Wii)

The argument with new IP is nonsense it was created by Sony and spread by their fans because Sony is unable to create long term successful IP so they try with new IP every then and now and try to find something successful if they find then they began releasing this IP almost bi annually as with Uncharted.

Online: I'm certainly sure you don't know how much of an improvement NN is over NWFC, it difinately compares to PSN, and it definately compares to the other next gen consoles' online, why? because it's fucking free!

Power:we don't even have concrete specs and you're saying this?

the Wii U has a  GPU that was praised by a dev to be "several graphical generations above the 360 and PS3" and that devs should actually use that extra power

 this "small" jump in memory managed to shape up a game codenamed "monolith soft X" look it up.

 it accepts up to 2 TB external hardrives.

it uses some form of bluray for the Wii U games, it doesn't play Bluray movies however, because it's a gaming machine, not an entertainment box

ooh, it doesn't have USB 3.0! that's gonna affect the actual games greatly (sarcasm)

games: the entire internet cried because Bayonetta 2 was a Wii U exclusive, because Monolith Soft is a Nintendo first party so "X" won't be coming to their precious Xbox One and PS4, they dream to play Mario, Zelda, Metroid,etc. so much that they want Nintendo to go third party!

these reasons are shit, and considering the GC and N64 were more powerful than the PS2 and PS, to the point that porting RE4 required the devs to record the cutscenes as video because of the PS2's inabillity to render them, and those were in the same gen as their respective counterparts.

The Wii U can do certain things that was not possible on the previous generation.

For example the assymetric gamepay in some of the Nintendo Land attraction (ghost mansion etc)

We have not seen the full possibilities of the Wii U yet.

you missed the whole point...try to campare it to ps4/xbox one since it's called the 8th gen console...wii u is last gen.
