Flash Point: Fire Rescue kicks in the door on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/flash-point-fire-rescue-kicks-in-the-door-on-steam/
Flash Point: Fire Rescue is a fantastic co-op board game that just made its way onto Steam. Think about a tactical maneuvering game like XCOM, but with firefighters, who are probably braver than alien hunters anyways. In any given scenario your team's job is to save people from a burning building—not put out fires. You're the people who go inside.

Wow, never seen this coming - both me and my kids love this boardgame, base mechanism is based on highly acclaimed Pandemic, but it's somewhat easier and thematically more appealing for younger audience.

And while they are not looking as impressive as Epic’s Star Wars demo, they may give us an idea of what we can expect from the first PC games that will be using it.

https://www.pcgamer.com/apocalypse-cow-is-a-2d-action-game-that-plays-like-a-blood-drunk-cartoon/
Its main villain is a cybernetic cow and its protagonist is a young girl with hair like blue taffy, yet Apocalypse Cow bills itself as a "cinematic" game. I can't say I got that impression when I played a bit of it at GDC, but I do agree with developer Monsters on one thing: it's a fun little 2D action game.

Now, I've been to the UK, and while Basingstoke is a real town located near London—a city whose twisting streets often feel procedurally generated—I'm not sure I believe the studio on this. That said, Basingstoke is also a top-down stealth roguelike set in an oddly adorable version of the town that happens to be overrun with aliens and monsters. Now you've got my attention, Puppygames.

The Elder Scrolls Legends expansion Houses of Morrowind went live today after a slight delay (from March 29 to April 5), bringing the strange land of the Dunmer to Bethesda's fantasy CCG. The expansion is notable not only for its incorporation of the studio's best RPG setting, but for the underlying changes it makes to the mechanical side of the game, including the addition of three-attribute cards which necessitate the use expanded deck sizes.

Destiny 2 developer: "We are actively working on a new weapon system right now"

I caught a little bit of yesterday's Bungie Bounty PC stream, in which players tried to queue into and beat the developers in order to earn an exclusive emblem. Far more interesting than the actual gameplay was the atmosphere—which today's 'This Week at Bungie' blog post describes as "supercharged" for the two-hour duration. The word I would use is "spicy", as fans in chat made the most of the chance to put their questions and concerns to sandbox design lead Josh Hamrick and senior crucible designer Kevin Yanes.

"The most common of these we have seen are to hold a slot, either because they want to play as a private crew or because they want to play with people with mics/people speaking the same language."
In order to fix this, Neate says he and his team are working to "allow players to select whether they want their ship to be open to others being matchmade with them, or closed so that it's invite-only."

The first-person Skaven-slasher's latest update, patch 1.0.5, tackles this head-on. Expect buffs to all five playable classes and nerfs to its deadliest enemies, among other things.

NVIDIA GPP: Meet ASUS AREZ Radeon series
https://videocardz.com/75783/nvidia-gpp-meet-asus-arez-radeon-series
For now, this is just a rumor, but our information comes directly from ASUS. Apparently, ASUS will launch a new AREZ brand for Radeon series. These cards will not carry any ROG branding. In fact, they might even lose ASUS branding altogether.

The ROG series simply do not exist under AREZ brand. That said there are no AREZ ROG STRIX series, but AREZ STRIX. Same applies to other sub-series, such as Phoenix, Expedition and so on. These are called AREZ Phoenix or AREZ Expedition respectively.

This short chart illustrates the transformation from ASUS to AREZ for certain Radeon products. The codenames are real.

One of the biggest issues of all Gamebryo and Creation Engine games (from Oblivion and Skyrim to Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 4) is their mediocre LOD. Due to the way these engines work, the horizon in the aforementioned games is full of blurry textures and lacks many details/objects. Thankfully, modder ‘pilamin’ released a mod that noticeably improves it in Fallout New Vegas.

Eventually, you'll probably want to install mods—and you can already do just that through both Nexus Mod Manager and Vortex, the Skyrim Nexus's (relatively) new mod management tool.

Ahead of its launch from Early Access on May 8, I recently got to check out some of the new features coming to Conan Exiles, Funcom's multiplayer survival sandbox. Conan Exiles has changed a lot since I played it last: the map is much bigger, the combat has been overhauled, and it includes free-form climbing (inspired by Zelda: Breath of the Wild, according to game director Joel Bylos), with everything from cliffs to trees to castle walls now completely scalable.

Update: Bohemia PR manager clarified the DayZ engine situation in an email, saying that the studio has been reworking the technology for the past four years. "It’s basically the reason why we are in Early Access for so long," he said. " Bohemia started a development of a new Enfusion Engine along with DayZ standalone—an engine that’s meant to empower our future games."

Rust's first player-controlled vehicle has arrived, and it's a boat
https://www.pcgamer.com/rusts-first-player-controlled-vehicle-has-arrived-and-its-a-boat/
Rust, the multiplayer survival game from Facepunch Studios, left Early Access back in February but is still receiving updates and additions (which makes sense since creator Garry Newman still considers Rust to be in alpha). Chugging into Rust in an update this week is its first player-controlled vehicle, a motorized rowboat. Boats are not craftable, so you'll have to go out and find one: they will spawn along the coastlines of the island map. The boat has room for a driver and up to three passengers.

Tail whip killer robots in 2D 'motorbike combat game' Steel Rats

Nearest I can tell, a very peculiar apocalypse has befallen the world of Steel Rats. I'm not sure what happened, but whatever it was, only bikers survived it, apparently along with legions of death machines. I'm assuming the death machines were in some way responsible for whatever happened to everyone else, because the bikers are fond of turning them into roadkill in all kinds of extravagant ways.

https://www.pcgamer.com/queuing-for-a-specific-role-in-overwatch-could-hurt-spirit-of-the-game-says-jeff-kaplan/
Putting together a balanced team in Overwatch has always been a problem. No matter how many times you plead for two supports, two tanks and two damage dealers, someone will always upset the apple cart by stubbornly picking their favourite hero no matter what. That's led some to propose a system whereby players pick a specific role—tank, healer or DPS—before queuing up for a game, guaranteeing a reasonable team composition. In an interview this week, game director Jeff Kaplan said that the idea is a "good starting point", but that he isn't keen on putting it into the game.

Players will be looting weapons, armour and abilities across the map, and as they do so they'll have the option to break any item down into Shards. If you're a speedrunning fan then you should mark June 24 in your calendar, because that's when the annual Summer Games Done Quick charity event is due to kick off. The organisers have just released the full list of runners alongside the games they'll power through, which you can browse here. I'm particularly looking forward to watching Semanari complete massive RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2 in just 40 minutes (the world record, if you're interested, is a breezy 28 minutes).
