Monday news, part two:
Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord will have upgradable castles
https://www.pcgamer.com/mount-and-blade-2-bannerlord-will-have-upgradable-castles/
Mount & Blade 2 is as yet without a release date. What it will have, however, is castles.
(...) I shudder to think how I'll handle Banderlords' promised upgradable castles—some of which cannot be breached by battering ram.
Conan Exiles prepares to leave Early Access with two new regions and massive NPC invasions
https://www.pcgamer.com/conan-exiles-prepares-to-leave-early-access-with-two-new-regions-and-massive-npc-invasions/
Ahead of its launch from Early Access on May 8, I recently got to check out some of the new features coming to Conan Exiles, Funcom's multiplayer survival sandbox. Conan Exiles has changed a lot since I played it last: the map is much bigger, the combat has been overhauled, and it includes free-form climbing (inspired by Zelda: Breath of the Wild, according to game director Joel Bylos), with everything from cliffs to trees to castle walls now completely scalable.
Destiny 2's AFK timer for Strikes is being shortened, 6v6 Iron Banner delayed
https://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2s-afk-timer-for-strikes-is-being-shortened-6v6-iron-banner-delayed/
There's good news and bad news in the world of Destiny 2 today, and since the weekend's just about upon us I will begin with the good: Bungie is reducing the amount of time a player can be inactive in a Strike to just three minutes, after which they'll be kicked to orbit.
'You play as the monsters' in Eldritch strategy game Sea Salt
https://www.pcgamer.com/you-play-as-the-monsters-in-eldritch-strategy-game-sea-salt/
Two-man Swedish developer YCJY describes Sea Salt as "a reversal action strategy game" where you lead a swarm of Eldritch monsters through inlet settlements, plundering coastal cities and expanding your army as you progress. It's now on Kickstarter and, at the time of writing, its campaign has raised $3,646 of its $5,930 goal and will run for another nine days. Its Kickstarter page also has a link to a free demo, which you can find on Itch.
A DayZ 'reboot' with major engine changes is coming soon, lead producer says (Updated)
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-dayz-reboot-with-a-new-engine-is-coming-soon-lead-producer-says/
Bohemia Interactive dropped some unexpected news about DayZ at a recent ID@Xbox event, telling PCGamesN that the game is going to relaunch on a new engine in just a couple of weeks.
Update: Bohemia PR manager clarified the DayZ engine situation in an email, saying that the studio has been reworking the technology for the past four years. "It’s basically the reason why we are in Early Access for so long," he said. " Bohemia started a development of a new Enfusion Engine along with DayZ standalone—an engine that’s meant to empower our future games."
Deckard Cain puts enemies to sleep in Heroes of the Storm by reading them Diablo lore

Heroes of the Storm brings together the mightiest characters from across Blizzard's games, but the latest champion to enter the Nexus might be the best. Deckard Cain, Diablo's longwinded loremaster, is entering the fray.

Final Fantasy 15 to release four new DLC episodes next year, including an alternate ending
https://www.pcgamer.com/final-fantasy-15-to-release-four-new-dlc-episodes-next-year-including-an-alternate-ending/
Square Enix will release four new episodes of DLC for Final Fantasy 15 next year, including an alternate ending, it announced at PAX East yesterday.
The four pieces of DLC, detailed in this Resetera thread, will include an episode centered on Ardyn, one focused on the fate of Luna, one smaller side-story about the Starscourge and, in Episode 4, Noctis's "final battle", which will contain the alternate ending to the game.
Rust's first player-controlled vehicle has arrived, and it's a boat
https://www.pcgamer.com/rusts-first-player-controlled-vehicle-has-arrived-and-its-a-boat/
Rust, the multiplayer survival game from Facepunch Studios, left Early Access back in February but is still receiving updates and additions (which makes sense since creator Garry Newman still considers Rust to be in alpha). Chugging into Rust in an update this week is its first player-controlled vehicle, a motorized rowboat. Boats are not craftable, so you'll have to go out and find one: they will spawn along the coastlines of the island map. The boat has room for a driver and up to three passengers.
Tail whip killer robots in 2D 'motorbike combat game' Steel Rats
https://www.pcgamer.com/tail-whip-killer-robots-in-2d-motorbike-combat-game-steel-rats/
Nearest I can tell, a very peculiar apocalypse has befallen the world of Steel Rats. I'm not sure what happened, but whatever it was, only bikers survived it, apparently along with legions of death machines. I'm assuming the death machines were in some way responsible for whatever happened to everyone else, because the bikers are fond of turning them into roadkill in all kinds of extravagant ways.
Jeff Kaplan: Queuing system for specific roles in Overwatch could 'hurt spirit of the game'
https://www.pcgamer.com/queuing-for-a-specific-role-in-overwatch-could-hurt-spirit-of-the-game-says-jeff-kaplan/
Putting together a balanced team in Overwatch has always been a problem. No matter how many times you plead for two supports, two tanks and two damage dealers, someone will always upset the apple cart by stubbornly picking their favourite hero no matter what. That's led some to propose a system whereby players pick a specific role—tank, healer or DPS—before queuing up for a game, guaranteeing a reasonable team composition. In an interview this week, game director Jeff Kaplan said that the idea is a "good starting point", but that he isn't keen on putting it into the game.

https://www.pcgamer.com/hi-rez-begins-testing-on-paladins-battle-royale-game-shows-off-weapon-crafting-system-and-map/
Hi-Rez gave us a peek at the game's weapon crafting system and its map in a forum post yesterday. Players will be looting weapons, armour and abilities across the map, and as they do so they'll have the option to break any item down into Shards. Collect 100 Shards and you'll be able to visit one of the forges dotted around the map to craft a random legendary weapon or ability.
Summer Games Done Quick announces speedrun lineup
https://www.pcgamer.com/summer-games-done-quick-announces-speedrun-lineup/
If you're a speedrunning fan then you should mark June 24 in your calendar, because that's when the annual Summer Games Done Quick charity event is due to kick off. The organisers have just released the full list of runners alongside the games they'll power through, which you can browse here. I'm particularly looking forward to watching Semanari complete massive RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2 in just 40 minutes (the world record, if you're interested, is a breezy 28 minutes).
Another Overwatch Retribution skin teased ahead of Tuesday's event
https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-archives-skins/
Overwatch's Archives event returns next week, this year declassifying the PvE mission Retribution that will see Reaper, McCree, Genji, and Moira in their roles as Blackwatch agents fighting through waves of Talon enemies.
Update: Two more skins, Talon-era looks for Doomfist and Sombra, have been teased on Overwatch's social media accounts.
Update 2: Another skin has been teased, this one being Mei's pajama outfit from her Rise and Shine animated short.
Radical Heights is Boss Key's next game—a free-to-play battle royale set in a 'futuristic '80s world'
https://www.pcgamer.com/radical-heights-is-boss-keys-next-gamea-free-to-play-battle-royale-set-in-a-futuristic-80s-world/
After admitting LawBreakers' failure last week, developer Boss Key Productions has now unveiled its latest project: Radical Heights. Due on Steam's Early Access initiative tomorrow, April 10, the free-to-play battle royale-style shooter is set in within a futuristic game show-meets-survival scavenger hunt that's inspired by the '80s where "cash is king".
