Can't wait for the next shrink. For my next upgrade I want an 8C/16T with a 4GHz base clock.

| JEMC said: Videocardz has found out the base clock of Intel's upcoming 12-core 7920X processor, and I think it's slower than expected:
Intel’s 12-core i9-7920X features 2.9 GHz base clock The CPU is also listed with 16.5 MB L3 cache. No other specs were revealed by Intel. This means that Intel’s 12-core i9-7920X base frequency will be lower than AMD’s 12-core Threadripper 1920X by 600 MHz.
Intel has an advantage in IPC, but could AMD's part perform better thanks to its frequency advantage? |
That's 20% better clock for AMD, so my guess would be pretty much yeah. Then on the other hand, in some cases, like in sound post and music production, a lot of people will keep avoiding AMD until it performs on par or better with Intel with low buffers (like 64 samples), since its performance drops more then Intel's with such low settings (in this case lower is better, for shorter latency).

If it doesn't, the performance difference should be inconsequential.
AMD is in my opinion the superior choice for HEDT, especially when you add price into the equation.
For lower core counts and high clockrates, Intel still has the edge though.

All this talk of 10, 12, 16, 18 cores... And you want only 8 cores? I would expect more next shrink. :P

Then I'll get however many cores I get with 4GHz base clock. I'm sick of low clocked shit that can't even properly handle 144fps.

Woop, DP cable arrived today along with the CPU cooler, motherboard and thermal paste.
Turns out they gift you Haribo when you buy from Overclockers
Now to wait on the Monitor, CPU, RAM, HDD, SSD and 3 extra fans.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Why wait? Just slap some paste on the cooler and mount it on the MB. You can just slide the CPU in there later.

Because I've ordered a new i7 to replace my current i5 CPU?
I'm basically building a new spec with the PSU, case, HDD, SSD and CD drive coming from the current build into the new one.

^Hey Chazore, and the rest of you, maybe this new competition will come in handy. The prize is a four-piece set of peripherals from Corsair: a gaming chair, a keyboard, mouse and mouse mat (all three of them with RGB). It's a global contest:

The fact that the "gaming" chair is the most expensive product of the four is kind of sad.
Please excuse my bad English.
Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070
Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB
Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Cheers, placed an entry already
It is kinda sad how the chair is the most expensive piece out of the lot
I would love a new gaming chair though as my current one isn't all that good for my back. Also a new M+K is in the works if I don't win the competition.
