AMD Ryzen 7 have a Temperature 20 Degree C Reporting Offset

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-ryzen-7-have-a-temperature-20-degree-c-reporting-offset.html
Alright, in the same blog post as mentioned in the previous item AMD also talks about a Temperature Reporting Offset. This one was new to us, but basically what they claim is the following. To keep a "consistent fan policy," AMD is forcing 20C offset on the Ryzen 1700X and 1800X processors. This makes them report temperature a good 20C above what the sensor reads.
In the short term, users of the AMD Ryzen™ 1700X and 1800X can simply subtract 20°C to determine the true junction temperature of their processor. No arithmetic is required for the Ryzen 7 1700.

>>WTF? So not only do their 8-core chips use less power than Intels, but they're also a whole lot cooler? Very impressive.

Did we read the same report?

Well, there's only one thing I can say: good luck.

Oh, and have a back up for the really important files.

Don't worry. I have a backup made up of 4 Seagate HDDs. I think I'm safe.

Are Seagates that bad? I don't remember that back in the days.
I bought a 5TB usb HDD (they call it Expansion Desktop) to do some backups at work... should I have gone WD My Book instead?

I don't know about longevity but general quality is higher on WD. Seagate is fine if you don't have any high demands. After all it's an HDD, no matter the manufacturer they could break today or in 20 years.

Computerbase.de tested Ryzen 7 on Windows 7 + Windows 10: https://www.computerbase.de/2017-03/ryzen-windows-7-benchmark-core-parking/

Games aren't running faster on Windows 7 than on Windows 10.

"Ryzen works faster on Windows 10 than on Windows 7, even if the energy profile has been set to "balanced". The change to Windows 7 brings only in Battlefield 1 and Project Cars clear advantages. In Project Cars, however, the same advantage can also be achieved under Windows 10 by selecting the "maximum performance" profile."

I haven't opened it yet, and WD just launched some nice deals on refurbished My Books.
You guys scared me for some reason... That's what got me thinking.

Might just stick with the Seagate and see how it performs, it has a two year data recovery guarantee either way.

There really is no general problem with Seagates, otherwise they wouldn't be in business anymore. Seagate is just the AMD to WD's Nvidia.

Well, I read the article where they say that the 1700X and 1800X CPUs report, on purpose, a temperature 20º higher than they really are. Given that most reviews claim that those CPUs hover around 70º at load, that's means they're really 50º, which is a great result for those 8-core chips.

I decided to skip Seagate altogether after seeing bars like these:
