I'll be honest boys. I am starting to believe in this tech. There's a lot of options to for modders to fiddle around with to get the DLSS 5 image just right for the game. The performance hit is huge since it cuts your FPS by half but still, I am pretty dang impressed with what they are able to achieve with just the dll file.

Still, there's a quite a lot of examples of it being uncanny as well. I think Aerith looks good here but the rest... Not so much lol

DLSS5 kinda feels like a 4k/8k texture pack mod to me. Obviously less 'what the creators intended' but it can produce some astonishing results, too.

AI in general is getting harder to ignore as it continues to improve.

Honestly it looks a lot better than the initial presentation

I think it's still too early to tell. After all, these are mods and we don't know how the devs will optimize DlSS5 to look. The work of the devs may/will vary from the look of those mods.

Or at least it should, as there are still instances of that Instagram filter:

It's so touched up that you can't even tell the colour of her eyes.

Yeah, while it has lot of potential to improve future games, if devs use it carefully (I mostly see it as complementary to RT), so far most of the things I'm seeing equate to yassified AI crap and copies of cheap cinematography.

That example you posted is encroaching on this kinda crap:

I don't care if everyone's talking about GTA VI looking great, because that CyberPunk 2077 footage is absolutely crushing GTA. Makes me really wonder how GTA VI will look when it eventually lands on PC and also gets the DLSS treatment. I guess even with more typical PC improvements it might already look quite impressive.

From my POV, GTA VI is exceptional mix of art and tech. I'm sure Rockstar will use DLSS5 to enhance, yet preserve that art, unlike most crap currently shown with DLSS5.

Meh sometimes the artistic direction argument makes sense while other times it doesn't from what I have seen on social media anyway. Personally some of the Death Stranding 2 screenshots feel like "I am limited by the technology of my time" moment than "artistic intended it to look different." But other times like FFVIIR, yea that is too dang uncanny.

But it does feel like this is where we are headed and considering how expensive and lengthy AAA game development has gotten. It feels like one of those things where if this tech can shorten gave development time with enough tweaking, then I am all for it assuming it doesn't look uncanny af. But we will see where it's all headed.

To be honest, I had completely forgoten about the GTA/Netfilx reveal until I saw the articles about it. And given that I don't have to share those articles, I still haven't bothered to check it out.

As for the improvements it could feature on PC, lightning (better RT or PT) would be my guess.

It definitely is. Especially the characters look amazing, but all the environmental detail is great too. It looks great otherwise too, but I think those two aspect are going to carry it a long way. I think DLSS 5 will be a great thing once developers get their hands on it properly and learn to control it better, but until then, it'll be hit and miss - but I think think a lot of what it does is absolutely amazing, I just wish we can get rid of most of those misses too.

Yeah, lighting is a sure thing. At this point I'd be surprised if the PC version didn't have path tracing, and obviously there will be some ray tracing as well. We'll see how it goes. I still lighting is one of the most important aspects of how realistic a game looks - everything else needs to be just good enough to support it, and lighting does the final mile. This is what's made me very excited about ray/path tracing, even if progress still takes time.

Two games will be removed from Steam on 31 August, probably because the license agreement for the Freezing manga will expire. Doesn't seem like there will be a final sale.
