SOFTWARE & DRIVERS

Steam had a slow start on Monday just like the rest of us
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/steam-store-issues-july-13-2026/
If Steam is struggling to load on your PC or phone, it's not just you. The store is currently struggling, with multiple issues shown on SteamStat.us.
Currently the store and community pages are reflecting a "Very Slow" status, with several regional servers overloaded and Deadlock's multiplayer API reflecting an Internal Server Error.
The Steam API itself seemns to be flickering between normal and offline. The store and community are also throwing some "Bad Gateway" errors, which means they may not load at all.
We get it, Steam: it's Monday.
Recent updates
July 13, 11:30 PT:
After a rocky morning with intermittent downtime and errors across the Steam store, community hub and various game APIs, it's now showing all systems green.

MODS, EMULATORS & FAN PROJECTS

Demon’s Souls PC Fan Remaster Demo Available for Download
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/demons-souls-pc-fan-remaster-demo-available-for-download/
Demon’s Souls fans, here is something special for you today. Modder ‘fromsoftserve’ has just released a fan remaster mod for the PS3 version of Demon’s Souls that PC gamers can experience via RPCS3. So, let’s dive in.
The Demon’s Souls PC Remaster Mod modifies the game’s models to now react to light sources like wall torches and campfires. Moreover, it upgrades armor rendering to use cubemaps. Furthermore, the modder has added normal and specular maps for most surfaces. And, finally, player and object shadows will now blend properly with the baked shadows.
This demo version covers the first two tutorial levels. Fromsoftserve plans to overhaul the remaining areas via future updates. So, make sure to keep that in mind while trying it. This is a demo and not the final version.
Nevertheless, I’m certain a lot of Demon’s Souls fans will want to give it a go. If you are one of them, you can go ahead and download it from this link. If, on the other hand, you don’t have enough free time, you can watch the following video. This video will give a pretty good idea of the visual enhancements the modder has brought. I’ve also included three comparison shots.

New The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/new-the-elder-scrolls-iii-morrowind-rtx-remix-path-tracing-mod-released/
In July 2025, we informed you about an early WIP RTX Remix Mod for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Sadly, the last update for it was in August 2025. So, we can assume the project is dead. Thankfully, though, there is another mod that just came out. So, let’s take a look at it.
Created by Naeluk58, this new RTX Remix Mod adds real-time Path Tracing to Morrowind. Moreover, it comes with PBR materials. As such, environments and objects should blend better with the new path traced lighting.
Needless to say, this isn’t the final version of the mod. So, expect some visual bugs and glitches. Nevertheless, it’s in a pretty solid state, allowing you to play the entire game with Path Tracing.
Those interested can go ahead and download the mod from this link. At the end of the article, you can also find a video for it. This video shows off the new Path Tracing lighting. So, be sure to watch it as it can give you an idea of what you can expect from it. Furthermore, the NexusMods page has some comparison screenshots. These can give you an even better idea of what this Path Tracing Mod brings to the table.
>> The article also has the instructions to install the mod.

The second part of the Tuesday gaming news:

Marvel Rivals has upset players yet again with some peculiar balances that buff some of the strongest heroes
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/marvel-rivals-has-upset-players-yet-again-with-some-peculiar-balances-that-buff-some-of-the-strongest-heroes/
It took all of one day for Marvel Rivals to enrage players after the release of season 9 with a new, unasked for, and slightly confusing patch. It buffed tons of heroes some of which in no way needed a helping hand.

The GoldenEye homage that left us 'shaken and stirred' in 2022 is finally launching in August
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/the-goldeneye-homage-that-left-us-shaken-and-stirred-in-2022-is-finally-launching-in-august/
Agent 64: Spies Never Die, a lovingly-crafted homage to the classic Nintendo 64 James Bond game GoldenEye, made quite an impression when it turned up at the PC Gaming Show in 2022, but all hasn't gone quite according to plan since then. An early access release expected later that year didn't come together, and updates on Steam have been few and far-between since then.
But today we got the update we've been waiting for—developer Replicant D6 announced that Agent 64: Spies Never Die is set to launch on August 11.

One week after going independent in the Xbox bloodbath, South of Midnight developer Compulsion Games is looking for work
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/one-week-after-going-independent-in-the-xbox-bloodbath-south-of-midnight-developer-compulsion-games-is-looking-for-work/
Just a week after South of Midnight developer Compulsion Games returned to independence amidst the latest round of sweeping layoffs at Xbox, the studio is looking for work. In a message posted on LinkedIn, Compulsion said it is "expanding opportunities to collaborate with studios across the games and entertainment industry."

'The company has turned its back on us': Black Flag Resynced developers at Ubisoft Barcelona are being laid off instead of celebrating the series' latest hit
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/assassins-creed/the-company-has-turned-its-back-on-us-black-flag-resynced-developers-at-ubisoft-barcelona-are-being-laid-off-instead-of-celebrating-the-series-latest-hit/
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has been a massive success for Ubisoft, having sold two million copies in a day and breaking the series' concurrent player records on Steam by nearly 40,000. Despite this good news, the company is planning to lay off 51 developers at Ubisoft Barcelona. These layoffs were announced last month, alongside reductions at Ubisoft's teams in Winnipeg and Belgrade.
Ubisoft Barcelona has a long history of supporting the publisher's larger studios, including Assassin's Creed, The Crew, Ghost Recon, and Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Of course, its latest efforts have been on Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, where it was responsible for all the underwater sections. Those beautiful (terrifying) diving bell sites? Brought to life by Ubisoft Barcelona.

WoW devs are 'looking into' an annoying grappling hook that takes a spot on your action bar, despite only being used in one zone
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/world-of-warcraft/wow-devs-are-looking-into-an-annoying-grappling-hook-that-takes-a-spot-on-your-action-bar-despite-only-being-used-in-one-zone/
I'm pretty neutral on World of Warcraft's current in-between patch content—this sort of thing isn't necessarily Blizzard's strong suit, and you get losers and winners. I'm already deeply ambivalent to the Omnium Folio, but I've been having an acceptable time in its void invasion zones. Sometimes it's nice to just turn your brain off for a few quests and scrape some hyper-specific currency together.
Well, except for one feature—the Lighthook Grapple. Being an MMO, my action bars are already flooded with mounts, transmog outfits, potions, and my actual abilities. So imagine my surprise when I zone out of Naigtal, and the big, obstructive "put this on your action bar" button for the Lighthook Grapple is still staring at me.
If you put it on your action bar, the button vanishes. If you dare remove it from your action bar, however, it returns like a scorned spectre from beyond the grave. This is the first time I've ever felt "Just Monika"-'d by a user interface.
(...)
And yet, it insists—as has Blizzard on the game's forums, with one developer writing: "After investigation by the development team, this is apparently and technically working as intended, and we do not plan on changing how this works at the moment."

The designer of cult classic King of Dragon Pass says his upcoming hellish heist game is pushing the boundaries of a concept he invented in 1999: 'There's really nothing else quite like it'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/the-designer-of-cult-classic-king-of-dragon-pass-says-his-upcoming-hellish-heist-game-is-pushing-the-boundaries-of-a-concept-he-invented-in-1999-theres-really-nothing-else-quite-like-it/
In 1999, designer David Dunham and his studio A Sharp released King of Dragon Pass. Part mythic fantasy RPG, part cattle management sim, King of Dragon Pass was initially a commercial failure—but it gradually amassed a cult following, and is remembered today by those with excellent taste as one of the finest narrative experiences in videogames.
Later this year, Dunham and A Sharp are launching a new twist on their narrative expertise with Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists, a surreal, replayable set of afterlife adventures that denies easy classification. Its publisher, Kitfox Games, calls it "a systemic storybook experience;" its Steam tags say it's a strategy RPG. Dunham, who considers it a "tactical narrative game," said in an interview with PC Gamer that there's a good reason for the ambiguity: Thousand Hells is the first of its kind.

I can get a pc with this specs

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X - 32 GB - 1 TB - GeForce RTX™ 5060

for 850 €.   Any thoughts about it?  Price seems nice but how are the specs?  I don't need 4 K gaming but would like the option to play like 99% of the games releasing in the near future aswell.

Say hi to our new memory overlords... well, not quite (yet):

Chinese CXMT to Match Micron's DRAM Manufacturing Capacity This Year
https://www.techpowerup.com/350726/chinese-cxmt-to-match-microns-dram-manufacturing-capacity-this-year
Chinese memory giant CXMT has been expanding its capacity so rapidly that the company is now able to compete with one of the largest memory manufacturers in the world—Micron. According to analysis from Citrini Research and their proprietary data, CXMT is projected to produce about 350,000 DRAM wafers per month by the end of 2026, assuming all current projects are completed on schedule. This is an impressive figure, especially considering that Micron, one of the "big three" DRAM manufacturers, is currently estimated to produce about 375,000 DRAM wafers per month by the end of 2026, assuming their capacity expansions are fulfilled. Micron has been a memory supplier for decades, while CXMT is a relatively new player that emerged to meet China's domestic needs.

As I said the other day, the big three may find themselves in trouble once AI/datacebter demand slows down and they have to go back to cater the common folks, as China may have secured a rather big part of that market for themselves by then.

There's another article about this on PCGamer (link) that expands on this, revealing why chinese companies can increase their production so fast compared to the western companies.

The GPU is the biggest problem for a machine capable of playing modern games. It only has 8GB of memory and, to be safe, you need at the very least 12GB or, more easy to find, 16GB.

And Nvidia 5060Ti 16GB or its AM counterpart, the 9060XT 16Gb are you best candidates, but the price will jump beyond 1000€ by then.

The CPU is fine, not amazing anymore but not a ballast that will drag your system down when gaming. 32GB of RAM is amazing, but it would be good to find more info about it (is it a 2x16GB kit or a 4x8GB one? And also the speed, as 3200 to 3600MT/s kits work better for AMD). 1TB os storage is ok.

Thanks, I guess I should wait then, don't mind going higher on price but this one was discounted (guess for a reason).  Also saw a 7.999€ PC for the first time.

That system likely has a 5090 in there. The price for those cards is insane.

Yeah, probably will be enough for the next decade and they sell well enough, or atleast I saw the numer of units go down in the store.

Personally I wouldn't necessarily consider the RTX 5060 the issue with that PC. It's not great, but finding better value isn't necessarily easy in this time. I have an RTX 5060, and while I'm not particularly happy about it, it's been perfectly acceptable and I expect it to continue being for my needs (1080p with non-max settings and minor imperfections accepted) so in the near future. Personally I'd be more concerned with whether the upgrade path for the CPU is looking acceptable due to its outdated socket - it might not be an issue, but it might become one if you get a new PC only very rarely.
