NVIDIA Releases GeForce 582.66 Security Driver for Maxwell and Pascal GPUs
https://www.guru3d.com/story/nvidia-releases-geforce-58266-security-driver-for-maxwell-and-pascal-gpus/
NVIDIA has published GeForce Security Update Driver 582.66, the latest maintenance release for graphics cards based on the Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures. The driver arrives as part of the company's legacy R580 support branch, which continues to provide critical security updates for older GeForce products after the end of Game Ready Driver support. Unlike standard GeForce Game Ready releases, the 582.66 driver is focused exclusively on security maintenance. Users should not expect game-specific optimizations, performance enhancements, new features, or compatibility updates for recently launched titles. Instead, the driver addresses vulnerabilities identified within NVIDIA's display driver software.

Unofficial Native PC Version of Silent Hill 1999 Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/unofficial-native-pc-version-of-silent-hill-1999-released/
SlickAmogus has just released the first public version of an unofficial native PC version of the first Silent Hill game that came out on PSX in 1999. This will let you experience Silent Hill on PC without the need to use an emulator.
This first public version will let you play the game from start to finish. The in-game 3D world is being rendered correctly. Textured environments, fog, snow/particle effects, trees, buildings, lamp posts, and ground geometry all look the way they were meant to.
Player movement is now fully functional. The PC version supports proper collision-based walking and running, and wall collisions work well in most situations. Floor height detection and stair movement are also working correctly.
Combat is in good shape, too. The handgun, hunting rifle, and shotgun all work reliably. Melee weapons can also hit enemies as expected. In addition, several character animations appear to function correctly. These include break-free animations, death animations, and enemy grab sequences.
The only major issues affect the Chainsaw and Rock Drill, which still do not work properly. Some boss visual effects also need more polishing. The audio may loop incorrectly occasionally. Ending cutscenes are also glitchy. So yeah, this isn’t 100% perfect yet. Nevertheless, it’s fully playable, from start to finish.
It’s worth noting that the PC version has support for high resolutions, high refresh rates, and uncapped FPS. From what I’ve seen, it does not seem to support the mouse. Then again, this is a game with fixed camera angles. I’ve finished the original PC versions of Resident Evil 1 and 2 on PC with the Keyboard. So, I’m pretty sure that Silent Hill can also be enjoyed with just the Keyboard.
For some strange reason, I thought the first Silent Hill came out on PC. Apparently, I was wrong. From the looks of it, Konami did not start bringing the series to PC until Silent Hill 2.
Anyway, you can go ahead and download this unofficial PC port of Silent Hill from this link.
To play it, you’ll have to extract its zip file. Next, place your game data inside the gamedata folder and rename the file to Silent Hill (USA).bin. This step is required. Even if you are using the PAL/European version of the game, you must still use this exact file name. After that, you can launch SilentHillPC_Launcher to configure the game, or run SilentHillPC directly to start playing. Keep in mind that you may need to launch the game once before the launcher works properly. This is due to the Windows SmartScreen protection.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Just Got a Cool Co-Op Mod
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/resident-evil-4-remake-just-got-a-cool-co-op-mod/
Modder ‘claybtv’ has just released a mod that allows you to play Resident Evil 4 Remake with your friends in co-op mode. This is something that a lot of RE fans will find interesting. So, if you are one of them, you should definitely check it out.
Going into more detail, the mod syncs both games in real time, allowing one player to join the other’s session and progress through the campaign side by side.
It also keeps many gameplay elements synchronized between both players. This includes enemies, story events, doors, switches, alarms, and many other interactive objects. As a result, both players share the same experience and can play through the entire campaign together.
As claybtv stated, the mod is in a beta phase and suffers from some issues. For instance, the mod scans areas to sync gimmicks and objects, causing frame drops at times. This is a known issue being actively improved. Using other mods that spawn many enemies can worsen lag because of the combined load.
Furthermore, enemies may appear stuttery or choppy on the partner’s side due to syncing smoothness issues. This is another issue that the modder is looking to improve.
Finally, opening the pause menu or inventory pauses the game normally, which disrupts co-op play. A fix is planned and will be released soon. Meanwhile, players should be careful when opening menus during co-op sessions.
You can go ahead and download the mod from here. To install it, you’ll have to drag the mod into Fluffy Mod Manager and enable it. Then, you can launch the game and open the menu. Create an account and find a person to play with. Finally, make sure you are both in the exact same spot.

One lone legend waiting for GTA 6 to launch has decided to make the game from scratch themselves: 'The goal: beat the real GTA 6 to launch'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/grand-theft-auto/one-lone-legend-waiting-for-gta-6-to-launch-has-decided-to-make-the-game-from-scratch-themselves-the-goal-beat-the-real-gta-6-to-launch/
If you were waiting for GTA 6 to drop when it should have done on May 26 (well, on console at least), you were probably more than a little perturbed by its delay to *checks watch* no time soon, i.e. November. That's to allow Rockstar to "finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve." Frustrating, but fair enough, we can wait.
But if you aren't content waiting, what's to do? 'Nothing at all' is what probably comes to most people's minds. But not Ziwen's. No, that would be far too simple for the AI start-up entrepreneur, who has decided to "beat the real GTA 6 to launch" (via X user Fashion Ruined My Life).
"Day 1 of building GTA 6. Still feels fake typing that out. Upgraded to Claude Max 20x just for this... No studio, no publisher. Just whoever shows up... The goal: beat the real GTA 6 to launch. Ambitious, probably stupid, doing it anyway. If you can model, code, build levels, or write music and lore, come join. Looking for a couple contributors to cook this."
This is it; this is what the brave new world of AI and vibe coding has brought us. The sheer brass, the gall, the bravery to stand up and say, 'I will make GTA 6, and I'll do it before November.' I love it. I hate that I love it, but I do.

Wednesday gaming news, part two:

Embark is finally cracking down on Arc Raiders' cheaters and duplication antics: 'Our commitment to anti-cheat initiatives remains a top priority'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/embark-is-finally-cracking-down-on-arc-raiders-cheaters-and-duplication-antics-our-commitment-to-anti-cheat-initiatives-remains-a-top-priority/
Arc Raiders has had its fair share of cheaters and game-breaking exploits, so much so that some players and big-name streamers have sworn it off. There are your usual wallhacks and whatnot, as well as exploits to spawn endless rubber duckies and equipment. Just recently, TheGamingMerchant put the duping exploits to the test, discovering just how bad it can be in high-end PvP.
But the time has finally come when we might start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Towards the end of May, Embark added Denuvo Anti-Cheat to "initially to a limited player pool" after finding success in The Finals. In the new update 1.33 patch notes, which brought the surprise Forgotten Relics event and Converging Paths project, Embark has confirmed it's ready to kick things up a notch.

Mistfall Hunter's demo might finally convince me, a souls sicko, to give extraction games a proper go—even if it's more modern God of War than Nightreign
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/mistfall-hunters-demo-might-finally-convince-me-a-souls-sicko-to-give-extraction-games-a-proper-go-even-if-its-more-modern-god-of-war-than-nightreign/
Mistfall Hunter is a promising, if curious little creature of a game—with a playable demo for Steam's Next Fest available now, it seems to market itself as an extraction soulslike. Well, the Steam page says it's a "dark fantasy extraction ARPG," but it's clearly trying to capture soulslike vibes. There's a shrine maiden equivalent, combat is deliberate and positioning-based, its inspirations are on the sleeve, the forearm, and right up to the elbow.

An obscure new game-breaking Destiny bug lets you one-hit bosses, and I don't think Bungie's gonna let this one slide (Update: Bungie is letting it slide... for a little bit)
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/an-obscure-new-game-breaking-destiny-bug-lets-you-one-hit-bosses-and-i-dont-think-bungies-gonna-let-this-one-slide/
Destiny 2's live service ambitions have come to an end with its final update last week. And with it, Bungie added everything and the kitchen sink, from new catalysts for every Exotic weapon to broken perk combinations. With no new endgame to grind or necessarily protect the sanctity of balance, Bungie's set us free with some of the most broken—and fun—tools we've ever had.
Despite that, I don't think Bungie ever expected returning to the infamous 'Craftening' levels of bonkers builds. For those who weren't around then, this was a bug with the crafting system where you could pinch the perks of one gun onto another, including Exotics.
More specifically, players have found a new bug where you can have multiple of the same seasonal artifact mods active at the same time. It's really easy to do but, as always, so obscure that I'm baffled it was ever discovered:
Update (June 16): Bungie has decided to let the bug live until sometime next week. "Go ahead," the developer said. "Get out there, beat up on Atheon. Destroy some bosses. Do your thing."

Overwatch season 3 kicks off with the gift of Jetpack Cat nerfs after the Apache helicopter meta dominated the World Cup
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/overwatch-season-3-kicks-off-with-the-gift-of-jetpack-cat-nerfs-after-the-apache-helicopter-meta-dominated-the-world-cup/
It's finally over, we're free. Overwatch players no longer have to live in fear, cowering from the skies in anticipation of what is essentially an AH-64 Apache appearing overhead and gunning us all down, because Jetpack Cat has been nerfed yet again.
This comes as part of Overwatch season 3's patch notes, where Jetpack Cat has undergone some decent changes, including a reduction in the shield minor perk, a speed decrease, and crucially, a fuel regeneration penalty while carrying a target, which has been increased from 2x to 3x slower.

'World of Warcraft Camelot' is a mysterious new branch of the MMO that Blizzard fans are convinced is the first real evidence of a remixed WoW Classic

A new version of World of Warcraft was just discovered and it's called "World of Warcraft Camelot". Instead of some kind of Arthurian spin-off, however, the dataminer who found it theorizes that it's just a codename for an enhanced version of World of Warcraft Classic.

Attention former 2000s youths: A second Beyblade-inspired roguelike has hit Steam Next Fest
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/roguelike/attention-former-2000s-youths-a-second-beyblade-inspired-roguelike-has-hit-steam-next-fest/
Back in January, I wrote about From the Top, a roguelike designed for those of us who had experienced the unparalleled childhood thrill of detonating your older brother's Beyblade with an imported Japanese Driger V2 that your parents had given you earlier that day on Christmas morning of 2003. (Many such cases.) From the Top was a promising omen: a sign that a subgenre precision-targeted at a specific vintage of millennials might soon emerge.
Today, I am pleased to report that the dream of the burgeoning Beyblade-like space is alive and well in Slayblade, a top-battling roguelike with a demo in this month's Next Fest.

Don't Kill Them All make you keep orc calm so orc not smash resources—big smart, neat game, like demo much
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/dont-kill-them-all-make-you-keep-orc-calm-so-orc-not-smash-resources-big-smart-neat-game-like-demo-much/
It's a hard life, being an orc—you wake up, you smash puny creatures, you go to bed. But your warlord's mad at you. Why? Because you got a little too in the zone and broke all the things you were there to steal. That's a big problem, especially if you're trying to do things like agriculture or society—in the interest of smashing, obviously.
Don't Kill Them All makes this the main thrust—or club, whatever floats your boat. It's a delightfully clever little strategy game wherein you're having to conduct an easily-ragebaited band of marauding orcs so as not to raze everything that moves.

Pigs starting to fly apparently, as Steam finally added the 9070XT and 9060XT to the Steam Survey charts.

The 9070 is with 1.33% also the most popular AMD GPU around now, while the 9060XT has 0.82%.

It also looks like half of the 7800XT were actually RDN4 cards, as their amount dropped by half in the latest update

They stopped counting discrete AMD cards under the generic AMD Radeon Graphics moniker it seems. The lack of share for the 9000 series never made sense. You see multiple retailers with strong sales but nothing on the Steam charts.

Warning all weebs: Kaspersky says hackers are distributing malware via anime girl wallpapers on Steam Workshop's Wallpaper Engine
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/warning-all-weebs-kaspersky-says-hackers-are-distributing-malware-via-anime-girl-wallpapers-on-steam-workshops-wallpaper-engine/
When it comes to desktop wallpaper, I often go with an illustration by Finnish artist Heikala. Making your own wallpaper, not unlike conjuring the visual arts, is a skill. As such, it's no wonder that many go looking for pre-made backdrops on Steam Workshop—though cybersecurity firm and anti-virus creator Kaspersky warns this has become yet one more avenue to be leveraged by bad actors.

Security researchers have found that malware is being pushed out in the guise of packages for animated desktop wallpapers. A Kaspersky press release claims that multiple infected Workshop wallpapers were downloaded thousands of times via Wallpaper Engine on Steam.

Now, I'm sure you're curious as to which wallpapers are affected—is there potentially a visual theme that unites them? Well, Kaspersky did include a number of screenshots involving blushing anime women, which perhaps says it all.

Guild Wars 3 hopes to solve the problem that made me quit Guild Wars 2 after thousands of hours with the series

I'm thrilled by the announcement of Guild Wars 3, but there's a little voice in my head that keeps whispering "you know you won't have time for a new MMO." It's a fear that ArenaNet seems keenly aware of as it begins to set expectations for the sequel, which plans to begin beta testing in 2027.
In a blog post this week, ArenaNet laid out several things that it believes are the "core philosophy" of Guild Wars 3: no subscriptions, no pay-to-win, respecting your time, and evolving the MMO genre.

Hours after announcing a collab with Fortnite, Vampire Survivors dev suggests it may back out over Epic's touting of generative AI

Epic announced several upcoming Fortnite collabs earlier today, including one with Vampire Survivors. But a few hours after the presentation, Vampire Survivors developer Poncle left a Reddit comment suggesting that the partnership might not happen after all.
While the post is brief, Poncle seems to be reacting to a recent video which demonstrates how Epic artists use generative AI to assist with the design of Fortnite characters and locations, and perhaps also to today's reveal of generative AI features in Unreal Engine.

PlayerUnknown's survival game becomes free-to-own and offers Steam refunds 'without restrictions on playtime or how long ago you bought the game'

Normally a game leaving early access would be cause for celebration, but I daresay that's not the case for Prologue: Go Wayback! It left early access on Steam today, but it's also doing so in an unfinished state with no plans for further development. (...) Prologue: Go Wayback! is also now free on Steam, so if you want to own it forever, all you have to do is download it.

D&D-inspired Critical Role's homegrown videogame is coming along well, says Laura Bailey: 'There's a lot of work being done'
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/d-and-d-inspired-critical-roles-homegrown-videogame-is-coming-along-well-says-laura-bailey-theres-a-lot-of-work-being-done/
Back in July of last year, Dungeons & Dragons livestream megafranchise Critical Role announced that it'd be working with AdHoc to make its very own video game based in Exandria—having already partnered with the company in the past to bring the very solid superhero management sim, Dispatch, to life.
(...)
And judging by Laura Bailey's words in a recent episode of Mythical Kitchen's Last Meals, that project's coming along swimmingly. Bailey, who currently plays the pixie rogue Thimble (as well as Jester Lavorre and Vex'ahlia in past campaigns) tells Josh Scherer that while she's gotta keep things close to her chest, the project's moving and shaking. Which isn't just me paraphrasing

Dave the Diver: In the Jungle's cutscenes are even hornier than they are in the base game
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/adventure/dave-the-diver-in-the-jungles-cutscenes-are-even-hornier-than-they-are-in-the-base-game/
I've said it before and I'll say it again: cutscenes are the worst. There I am, sitting down to play a game, ready to tap some keys and wiggle some thumbsticks and click my mouse—when suddenly the game I'm playing decides it's actually a movie and all I can do for the next few minutes is watch.
(...)
Except when they don't suck, of course, like in Dave the Diver, which is the only game I can remember playing where I was left wishing there were more cutscenes instead of zero cutscenes. Dave the Diver's cutscenes were so energetic, so fantastically animated, so surprising and funny and occasionally kinda horny that I loved every one of them and wished there were more.
Well, I got my wish. For the past week or so I've been playing Dave the Diver's new DLC, In the Jungle, which is not only completely rad but has some amazing cutscenes that are somehow even more wild, and more horny, than the cutscenes in the base game.
