Friday gaming news, part two:
Overwatch players are being completely normal about Jetpack Cat and all her hideous combos: 'I hate this cat with a passion'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/overwatch-players-are-being-completely-normal-about-jetpack-cat-and-all-her-hideous-combos-i-hate-this-cat-with-a-passion/
Jetpack Cat in Overwatch is the perfect example of 'sick when I do it' and 'a crime against humanity when someone else does it to me'. I'm of course talking about her Lifeline ability, which can airlift allies into enemy backlines, or her ultimate that divebombs some poor soul and then whisks them away, usually to certain death.
'Please let us focus on making our game in peace' developer says to whoever is behind a slew of fake positive reviews that it swears definitely isn't them
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/please-let-us-focus-on-making-our-game-in-peace-developer-says-to-whoever-is-behind-a-slew-of-fake-positive-reviews-that-it-swears-definitely-isnt-them/
A developer has claimed some unknown bad faith actor is flooding its new game with positive Steam reviews—and it's definitely not the culprit, swear—after players began to notice droves of AI-generated accounts padding the numbers.
Starsand Island hasn't had the easiest week in the run up to its launch on February 11. Despite being a pretty good and fun farming sim—I had a great time with its demo in December, and Lauren was equally impressed when she took a deeper dive into the full early access build—the game has been mired in discourse. From plonking anti-cheat into what is (currently) a singleplayer game, to Kickstarter backers not receiving their keys, to launch-day early access DLC that costs half as much as the game itself.
One of the best-reviewed new games on Steam right now is about feeding raccoons and cryptids with the cosmic, Lynchian oven of your eerie woodland house

Even in our era of accelerating electric woe, there's a timeless comfort to be found in the simple act of cooking for a friend. The fulfilment of providing that basic hospitality is what developer The Rat Zone is trying to capture in Creature Kitchen, a laid-back cooking sim that released on Steam last week: It's just you, the ingredients scattered around your inscrutable woodland home, the yawning cosmic void contained within your oven, and the unsated hungers of the night creatures answering the call of the culinary witching hour.

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fighting/team-ninja-is-working-on-a-new-dead-or-alive-fighting-game-after-half-a-decade-in-hibernation/
Team Ninja is developing a new Dead or Alive fighting game as the series celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, the studio announced today during a Sony State of Play broadcast.

Krafton finally reveals The Bird That Drinks Tears, and he's a massive 7-foot-tall chicken warlord with dual swords who butchers his enemies without mercy or remorse

Buried in a dark corner of a 2021 Krafton financial report was a mention of something called Project Windless, an adaptation of a Korean fantasy novel series called The Bird That Drinks Tears. We've had a few glimpses of it since then, and there's a handful of concept art posted on developer Krafton Montreal's website, but today we got our first real look at it in the State of Play showcase, and hoo boy, this is something.
Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition is out tomorrow, and features 5 versions of the 1995 classic, as well as a lost SNES prototype
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/rayman-30th-anniversary-edition-is-out-tomorrow-and-features-5-versions-of-the-1995-classic-as-well-as-a-lost-snes-prototype/
The first Rayman released in 1995, originally as a PlayStation exclusive, before hitting PC, Sega Saturn, and the Atari Jaguar. Despite being a 2D platformer at a time when 3D platformers were all the rage, it sold very well, especially in the UK and France. It was the first game Michel Ancel released for Ubisoft (then known as Ubi Soft), who's nowadays working on the terminally-in-development Beyond Good and Evil 2.
Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition has been leaked for a while but today it's official, and not only that, it's releasing on Steam tomorrow. It's a pretty lavish package: five versions of the original will feature, including PC, PlayStation, Atari Jaguar, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance versions. In addition to these, a never-released SNES prototype will also be included. It's a collaboration between Digital Eclipse and Ubisoft Montpellier.
>> That tomorrow is today.
Castlevania is finally back, and it's in exactly the right hands
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/castlevania-is-finally-back-and-its-in-exactly-the-right-hands/
Every once in awhile the world stops delivering us a nonstop cavalcade of horrors—and questionable videogame trailers—to simply serve up something obviously good and right. Today that happened with Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, a new 2D action platformer from Evil Empire and Motion Twin, developers of the excellent Dead Cells.

Space Marine 2 dev Saber is making an 'Untitled John Wick Game' with Keanu Reeves reprising the role—but it's a PlayStation exclusive
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/space-marine-2-dev-saber-is-making-an-untitled-john-wick-game-with-keanu-reeves-reprising-the-role-but-its-a-playstation-exclusive/
At Sony's latest State of Play showcase, we got a first look at the second John Wick videogame, currently billed as "Untitled John Wick Game." The adaptation is in development at Saber Interactive (Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2) and looks set to be a PS5 exclusive—at least for six to 12 months, as these things usually go now.
>> And that’s all I’ll post about this games until it gets announced for PC.
The original God Of War trilogy is being remade, and yes, it'll almost certainly come to PC
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/the-original-god-of-war-trilogy-is-being-remade-and-yes-itll-almost-certainly-come-to-pc/
The original God Of War trilogy released exclusively on PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 consoles and sold millions, cementing Kratos as a bad ass Sony mascot of sorts. But it was still surprising to learn today that the original "Greek saga" is getting the remake (not the remaster) treatment by Sony Santa Monica.
We learned as much from original Kratos voice actor TC Carson during today's PlayStation State of Play showcase. The project is in its early stages at the moment, so no gameplay was shown nor even a cinematic trailer, but it's definitely a thing that exists.
>> Like I wrote in the article above, no more articles about this until it gets announced for PC. Meanwhile, you can check BraLoD’s thread about it.
Marathon will run an open Server Slam that'll lead right into launch
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/marathon-will-run-an-open-server-slam-thatll-lead-right-into-launch/
Ten months ago, I played early builds of Marathon and Arc Raiders on the same day and subsequently wrote "I'm honestly shocked, but Arc Raiders is a much more exciting extraction shooter than Marathon".
A lot has happened since: Bungie went dark on Marathon after its playtest got less than stellar reception, which eventually resulted in a 2026 delay. Embark held a Server Slam for Arc Raiders soon after, inadvertently eating Bungie's lunch and setting the stage for a huge launch.
Now, just weeks away from Marathon's delayed launch, Bungie wants another chance. Marathon will have its own Server Slam from February 26 to March 2. The playtest will run right up to the final days before launch on Thursday, March 5.
The first two Dino Crisis games are on Steam for the first time and half-price, but packaged with Enigma DRM
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/horror/the-first-two-dino-crisis-games-are-on-steam-for-the-first-time-and-half-price-but-packaged-with-enigma-drm/
"What if Resident Evil but crossed with Jurassic Park" was an extremely 1990s idea, but if you're up for a trip back in time to the days when the PS1 was hot shit and Generation X still had working knees, Capcom has just rereleased Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 on Steam.
Both games were ported to PC in the early 2000s, and most recently rereleased on GOG in January of last year. In fact, the versions on Steam now list GOG.com as a co-developer, since they're almost the same. One difference: DRM. Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 on Steam use the Enigma Protector DRM, which is why when I went to play the first one a window popped up telling me to "Chack Registry" before I could launch it. Yes, with the typo.
All Genshin Impact 6.4 livestream codes
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/genshin-impact-codes-6-4-livestream/
The Genshin Impact 6.4 livestream codes are here, or should that be the Luna V livestream—it should, since this is the fifth version since we've ventured into Nod-Krai, an autonomous zone in Snezhnaya. This new update will keep advancing the region's story, but also introduce new characters and events, as per usual.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 got its final big update, if you want to bolt 61GB of 4K textures onto MGS3 and, thank God, finally switch the cancel and confirm buttons in MGS1
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/metal-gear-solid-master-collection-vol-1-got-its-final-big-update-if-you-want-to-bolt-61gb-of-4k-textures-onto-mgs3-and-thank-god-finally-switch-the-cancel-and-confirm-buttons-in-mgs1/
Sony's State of Play yesterday was, it seems, pretty well-received. We've got Metal Gear Solid 4 inbound on PC, God of War remakes (also, you have to believe, headed to our platform), and I can only assume everyone else is as euphoric about replaying Legacy of Kain: Defiance as I am.
But amid the hubbub came an easily-missed announcement that perked my ears up: the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 got its final big update, adding new high-resolution options to MGS1 and 3, keyboard settings (imagine!) for MGS1 and, well, nothing really for MGS2. Sorry, Raiden.
