Geforce 5060 with 8GB is a colossal mistake... And shows nVidia has learned nothing.
Reserve the 6GB/8GB cards for a theoretical budget 5030 or 5040.

nVidia needed to go with a 96bit memory bus and have 12GB of memory at a minimum with 336GB/s of GDDR7 bandwidth, still more than the 4060Ti but on a narrower bus to keep costs low. (And make up for the larger memory pool.)

I guess we wait to see how AMD counters with the 9070GRE and 9060 lineup, I won't be surprised if they also release 8GB parts.

Oh NVidia has learned alright, why do you think they're hiding the 8GB version from the reviews?

They know fully well that it's not enough but produce them anyway because less knowledgeable people WILL buy them simply because it's an NVidia GPU, who then in turn will upgrade early because they run out of VRAM.

In short, they are skimping on the memory to prey on the masses.

Edit: AMD has already confirmed that there will be 8GB versions of the 9060. The 9070GRE however will probably be a 12GB or 16GB card, not just 8GB.

Atomfall hits 2 million players and 500K cups of tea drunk
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/atomfall-hits-2-million-players-and-500k-cups-of-tea-drunk/
Survival-action shooter Atomfall has lured more than two million players into its post-nuclear-disaster Britain, and they've apparently drunk 500,000 cups of tea while there. Which is not enough. Those are rookie numbers in the British tea drinking game. We need those numbers up to like three per person just to make average. That's 6,000,000 cups of tea, people, get on it.
Developer Rebellion shared the latest Atomfall stats from its first two weeks after release, and I was happy to find that 60% of players helped a poor wounded scientist, and deeply disappointed not just with tea consumption, but with how the delicious pasty somehow came in third on the list of foods consumed. What is wrong with you people? You're eating tinned meat when the pasty is right there.
The nice part is that the cricket bat kill total is over 5.9 million, so we're right where we should be there. No, I do not have a statistic to base this one (unlike the tea one) but it just feels right. Drink a cuppa, kill a man with a wooden bat. Simple as.

GTA 5 Natural Vision Enhanced looks mind-blowing in first screenshots
https://www.dsogaming.com/screenshot-news/gta-5-natural-vision-enhanced-looks-mind-blowing-in-first-screenshots/
The team behind the Natural Vision Mod has released the first screenshots for its upcoming version for GTA 5 Enhanced Edition. These screenshots will blow you away as they make GTA 5 look like a next-gen title. Yep, they are THAT good. And yes, the header image is a screenshot from it.
Now the good news here is that Natural Vision Enhanced will be available for free to everyone. That’s what its modding team claimed on its Discord channel. As such, it will compete with both RealityV and ChromatiX Enhanced.
Moreover, Natural Vision Enhanced will allow all light sources to cast shadows. This will further enhance the game’s ray-traced shadows. Thus, all objects will now cast RT shadows. And, to give you an idea, the team shared these comparison screenshots.
From what I know, Razed plans to release Natural Vision Enhanced in Spring 2025. The team is also working on a trailer that will go live soon. Sadly, though, there is no ETA for when that will happen.
>> Besides the comparison screenshots linked in the article, that I haven’t checked, the article itself also has some screenshots.

GTA 5: Definitive Edition Improved RT Reflections Mod Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/gta-5-definitive-edition-improved-rt-reflections-mod-released/
Modder ‘BadassBaboon’, creator of the RealityV Mod, has released a new mod that improves the ray-traced reflections of GTA 5. This mod overhauls the game’s reflections so that they can look better and more realistic.
With this mod, buildings, houses, apartments, and shops now have windows and glass that reflect even more things. Also, puddles and water now show real reflections of the world around them.
And that’s not all. The mod fixes translucent surface reflections. It also adds proper shaders and textures to models such as underpasses to take advantage of RT reflections. Plus, the building LODs are also adjusted for smooth reflection transitions.
Right now, the majority of the city is updated to fully take advantage of the new RT technology. So, make sure to download it as it’s one of the must-have mods for this next-gen version of GTA 5. Well… that is if you want even better RT effects.

This Tekken 8 Mod Removes Heat, Rage, Power Crush & Excess Tracking
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/this-tekken-8-mod-removes-heat-rage-power-crush-excess-tracking/
A lot of players have been disappointed by some of the new gameplay mechanics of Tekken 8. And, surprisingly enough, a modder was able to completely remove Heat, Rage, and Power Crush from the game.
Not only that, but the mod removes some of the ridiculous tracking for some moves. Plus, it’s fully compatible with online play. The catch here is that for it to work, both players (in online mode) will need to have the mod installed.
Right now, Bandai Namco will not ban you for using it. After all, the game does not have any anti-cheat system. Moreover, the Tekken 8 devs have allowed many players to cheat online using third-party tools. So yeah, it seems unlikely they will hunt and ban those that only use this mod.
Despite that, I don’t recommend the mod for online play. Still, if you and your friends want to experiment, it’s a decision you will have to take.
For those wondering, no. This mod will NOT address the gameplay issues of Season 2. It will not remove the new moves that the devs have added. However, it may reduce their tracking.

Roberts' death was first reported by The Guardian in February, in an obituary written by his former wife. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is currently undergoing its own Jedi purge—and Sith purge, and wookiee purge. Really, it's a purge of any animate being in the galaxy, droid or otherwise. For the last few days, players have been reporting that Battlefront 2 has been left almost completely unplayable as hackers have managed to prevent any matches from starting in any of its game modes (via IGN).

Causal Loop is a new first-person puzzler with a sci-fi setting from Mirebound, a team of ex-Blizzard developers. While there's been something of a resurgence in puzzle games as of late, Causal Loop seeks to set itself apart from the herd by providing puzzles that don't just work as obstacles to progression but as a way to decide how you will progress.

The Talos Principle: Reawakened goes back to the beginning for a touching coda to its musings on what it means to be human

I'm a big fan of the Talos Principle games, and so was happy to hear that the original, now more than 10 years old, was getting the remaster treatment as The Talos Principle: Reawakened. And it's not just a graphical overhaul: The updated edition also features an entirely new chapter that takes players back to the very earliest days of the simulation that brought about the rebirth of humanity.

If so, good news: Season 6 of the game's early access release includes a new "Adventure Mode," a PvE-exclusive co-op format that gives players the opportunity for some risk-free dungeon crawling.

'Let's just fail quickly this time': Semiwork took a 'big risk' on REPO after its first game took 6 years to make and didn't sell very well
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/horror/lets-just-fail-quickly-this-time-semiwork-took-a-big-risk-on-repo-after-its-first-game-took-6-years-to-make-and-didnt-sell-very-well/
The co-op horror game REPO is, like Schedule I, a surprise indie hit. Released in February, it's got an "overwhelmingly positive" rating across more than 91,000 user reviews on Steam and remains near the top of its most-played chart: As I write this, nearly 170,000 people are playing.
In a new developer video diving into REPO's creation, semiwork's Pontus Sundström explains how it all came about, and the circumstances surrounding its creation were not particular fortuitous: Semiwork had spent six years working on its previous game, Voidigo, and while it also has an "overwhelmingly positive" rating on Steam, it wasn't a big seller. That left the studio in a spot where its future wasn't assured, and so its approach to REPO was a little bit different.

'Just make a very good game': Sloclap dismisses the idea that online games need to be free-to-play
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sports/just-make-a-very-good-game-sloclap-dismisses-the-idea-that-online-games-need-to-be-free-to-play/
Sifu developer Sloclap has pivoted from martial arts games to sports games with Rematch, a 5v5 competitive football (soccer) game coming this summer. It turns out the skills transfer: Rematch is more Rocket League than FIFA, and it's "something special," writer Daniella Lucas said after visiting Sloclap for a hands-on preview.

Speaking to PC Gamer during that recent studio visit, Rematch creative director Pierre Tarno said that he doesn't think online games have to be free-to-play, and that making a free-to-play game was never even on the table for Sloclap.

Days Gone’s upcoming survival arcade mode will introduce endless hordes and ‘exploding freakers’, and I’m beginning to think it might be the best way to play the game
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/days-gones-upcoming-survival-arcade-mode-will-introduce-endless-hordes-and-exploding-freakers-and-im-beginning-to-think-it-might-be-the-best-way-to-play-the-game/
I was ambivalent about Days Gone when it shambled onto PC in 2021, though my issues were primarily with its clumsy storytelling rather than anything systemic. Exploring the world on Deacon St John’s motorcycle while evading hordes of shambling undead was enjoyable enough, especially when a minor pitstop to pick up some fuel would turn into a cross-country fight for survival.
Hence, I was more than a little curious when Sony announced that the upcoming Broken Road DLC will feature a horde assault mode that focuses squarely on that. With the DLC due to launch in a couple of weeks, Sony has revealed several new details about the mode, and I’m beginning to wonder whether it might turn out to be the best way to play the game.

Following massive player fall-off, Amazon's MMO Lost Ark is getting an update to make levelling faster and address a 'known progression pain point'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/following-massive-player-fall-off-amazons-mmo-lost-ark-is-getting-an-update-to-make-levelling-faster-and-address-a-known-progression-pain-point/
Lost Ark was mostly a pleasant surprise for me when I reviewed it back in 2022. I enjoyed both its spectacular ARPG combat and its increasingly absurd MMO story, which shifted from conventional fantasy fare to throwing you into enormous clown battles and exploring islands inhabited by Borrowers-like characters. But there came a point where the progression barriers were thrown down, and my movement across its colourful archipelago was increasingly inhibited by grind.
It seems I'm not the only person who has struggled with Lost Ark's progression, as developer Smilegate and the game's Western publisher Amazon are cooking up a bunch of changes designed to improve the RPG's forward momentum.

This shooter is billing itself as 'the Battlefield Heroes you can actually play'

You want a sassy pitch for an upcoming game? Heroes of Valor is, per publisher Iceberg Interactive's press release, "the Battlefield Heroes you can actually play."
Clearly, it kind of is: It wears its inspiration on its sleeve as a spiritual successor to the now decade-dead free-to-play shooter. It also has a (free) playtest running right now on Steam, where it's "coming soon" into early access.

American Truck Simulator is adding a road trip mode where you drive different vehicles, 'say, a powerful pickup or even a sports car'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/american-truck-simulator-is-adding-a-road-trip-mode-where-you-drive-different-vehicles-say-a-powerful-pickup-or-even-a-sports-car/
In March, SCS Software dropped a mysterious teaser for American Truck Simulator: the sound of a revving engine that didn't quite have the full-throated roar of a big rig. It sounded more like what we call a ute in Australia and and New Zealand and the rest of the English-speaking world probably knows as a pickup truck. Was American Truck Simulator about to downscale?
The answer is, kind of, yes. As SCS Software explained in a blog post, it's working on a new mode called road trip that will let players "enjoy the vast landscapes of ATS not only from the cab of an 18-wheeler but also from behind the wheel of, say, a powerful pickup or even a sports car."

John Romero's brutal megawad Sigil 2 has formally chainsawed its way into Bethesda's Doom + Doom 2 remaster
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/john-romeros-brutal-megawad-sigil-2-has-formally-chainsawed-its-way-into-bethesdas-doom-doom-2-remaster/
Bethesda and Nightdive Studios' remaster of Doom + Doom 2 was not just an excellent overhaul of the legendary FPS and its sequel, it brought together all of vanilla Doom's additional adventures under one cracked, pentagram-scrawled roof. Alongside the two base games, it included the master levels for Doom II, the two halves of Final Doom, and a new official campaign developed by MachineGames, the furiously challenging Legacy of Rust.
Yet there was one notable omission from the remaster's library of canonical (and semi-canonical) adventures—Sigil 2. Designed by Doom cocreator and general FPS legend John Romero, Sigil 2 is Doom's sixth episode, comprised of nine new levels (two of them secret) which take place directly after the events of the first Doom.
(...)
Earlier this week, Bethesda patched Doom + Doom 2 which fixed various minor bugs and mod compatibility issues. Mainly though it officially added Sigil 2 to the roster of mainline Doom releases, meaning it appears on the game selection screen alongside Doom, its sequel, and the game's other supplementary adventures.

Former Skyrim dev announces a vehicular free-running game where you launch a car through a claymation world using mouth-sound explosions, and that's the weirdest thing I've ever had to fit into a headline

I had not realised that carkour—the theoretical act of performing parkour with a car—was something I wanted to exist until approximately 40 minutes ago, and now it has somersaulted to the summit of my own hierarchy of needs. Stuff all that nonsense about esteem and self-actualisation. I want to do backflips in a hot-rod.
You could argue that carkour tacitly exists in games like Rocket League and Trackmania already. But they did not give it a clever name, and that ultimately is all that matters. This is the little nugget of genius upon which Deedlee Doo! Carkour—a newly announced game dedicated to vehicular free-running—hopes to build its fortune.

It sure seems like the sun is setting on Dragon Age—with Veilguard falling short of expectations after years in development, EA seemingly learning exactly the wrong lessons, and sweeping layoffs including senior talent, I'm not holding my breath for the future. In my view, Veilguard was a semi-decent action RPG with a fumbled story, which just wasn't enough.
David Gaider, who authored the series but left Bioware in 2016 after Dragon Age: Inquisition, has revealed two truths. The first, not-so-shocking one, is that EA didn't really know what to do with Dragon Age (something you could glean from context)—the second, more shocking one is that BioWare was completely split down the middle circa 2010-2016, divided into two studios. Studios that, according to him, kinda resented each other.

'Trust continues to be tampered with': A thread about SBMM in the upcoming Battlefield game is the final straw as an EA community manager lets loose on leakers

The next Battlefield game has been in an early playtest for a while now, with EA deciding to take a new angle on community testing by introducing its Battlefield Labs initiative, a new way for players to test out potential features for the upcoming game. The only problem being that, despite an NDA, participants have been leaking footage of the untitled game all over the place, to the disdain of EA.
This has been a recurring problem, but it seems like we found the final straw: Players openly discussing potential SBMM features. Rumours about the next Battlefield having SBMM started to spread like wildfire, with most players responding negatively, saying that it's either not needed or it makes matches worse. In a Reddit post, one player shares a PSA from David Sirland, Battlefield's lead producer, trying to calm tensions by effectively saying that all of this is temporary and being done with a light touch. But when grumpy commenters take to the replies to complain, the community manager steps in.

First benchmarks of the 16GB version of the 5060Ti have been leaked, showing it's just 20% faster than the 4060Ti 16GB and thus 33% slower than the 5070.

In other words, it can't even keep up with a 4070.

Also apparently NVidia is restricting review samples to the 16GB version - probably to avoid getting trashed by games that run out of VRAM with only 8GB.

https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/leaked-rtx-5060-ti-16gb-benchmarks-show-a-20-percent-uplift-over-the-4060-ti-16gb

Another thing that's shitty about this gen is none of the gpus can seem to beat their previous generations "next tier up" outside of the 5090

5080 can't beat 4090
5070 Ti can't beat 4080
5070 can't beat 4070 Ti
5060 Ti can't beat 4070
5060 likely won't be able to beat 4060 Ti

It's sad how meh this gen really is.

The list is doing a disservice to the ROG Ally X and Switch 2 by not listing that they have VRR displays. On the flip side that 8.6TFLOPs for Ally X is a prime example of why using TFLOPS as a measuring stick is a bad idea. That's near PS5 performance but in actuality the ROG Ally X is not quite PS4 level.

Ally X is somewhat above PS4...at least in Turbo mode. 780M is quite descent RDNA3 GPU, so, on paper, smacks not just PS4, but can go toe to toe with Series S - thing is, it is starved by low memory bandwidth, so that potential performance stays there, on paper.

I know it's faster than the PS4 on paper but in real world performance that doesn't bear out. It's one of the coolest things about Strix Halo, it's 256bit memory bus allows it stretch it's legs

AMD is doing the same nonsense, which is ashame because based generational performace uplift of RDNA4 CUs, the 9060XT should be decent uplift over the 7600/7600XT with it's significantly higher base and boost clocks.

Thanks for sharing!

I have it on the Epic Store, but I'll get it on Steam as well.

I was watching the Hardware Unboxed video comparing FSR4 and DLSS (link here) at 4K when a post in the comments caught my attention:

(It's the second one when writing this, in case you can't read it well or want to check it there)

I thought you may be interested, since it hasn't appeared in regular news articles (but Linux stuff rarely does).

If that is the performance we could expect from RDNA3, I have to agree that porting it over wouldn't do much good.
