I'm not terribly fond of the larger font size, but I don't really mind it too much either. Do whatever you feel like doing, and thanks for the news in general!

Is it the larger front from the headlines, the sections (in red) or both? If it's the sections, I also think that they may be a tad too big and was thinking about making them the same size as the headlines.

Thanks for your opinion.

Maybe a bit of both, mainly because there's already other distinguishing factors (i.e. colour/underlining), so it perhaps feels a bit much. Admittedly a part of this might also be having got used to the old style, but on the other hand, you would imagine I've already got used to the new style, so maybe not. But like I said, I don't mind it too much either.

Let’s go with the Monday news:

*Note: After the limited feedback I got this weekend, I’m trying a couple of changes. This first section, the Sales one, is the same as it was last week. For the others I’ll use a smaller font for the sections to match the one I’m using for the headlines, and I’m also using three different shades of red for the other three sections. Since the red shade I was using, the #FF0000 is the reddest one, so the others may look a bit orange or magenta. Let me know what you think.*

EA announces the guillotine will finally fall on Origin this April thanks to Microsoft's abandonment of 32-bit Windows and, if you don't like it, 'use a newer computer'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/ea-announces-the-guillotine-will-finally-fall-on-origin-this-april-thanks-to-microsofts-abandonment-of-32-bit-windows-and-if-you-dont-like-it-use-a-newer-computer/
A new post from Electronic Arts (EA) with the inauspicious title "Update your operating system for the EA App" tolls the final bell on the ill-fated Origin platform, and may be very bad news for a small subset of gamers. It's been a bit of a road to get here, but you'll see why in a moment: EA first announced that Origin would be replaced by the "EA Desktop App" in 2020, then things went quiet until October 2022 saw the more svelte "EA App" move into open beta.
The EA App has subsequently established itself as one of the least-bad attempts at these things from a major publisher. But Origin remained running alongside it, because it was a client running on 32-bit desktop software, and the EA App requires a 64-bit version of Windows. Microsoft announced back in 2020 that future versions of Windows 10 would no longer support 32-bit systems, a move that some thought was long-overdue, while others feared it would leave their older machines obsolete. Five years down the line, that decision is about to bite down hard.
"On April 17, 2025, Origin will shut down, as Microsoft has stopped supporting 32-bit software," says EA's statement. "If you use Origin, you need to upgrade to the EA app, which requires a 64-bit version of Windows."

MODS, EMULATORS & FAN PROJECTS

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Just Got a Sekiro-Inspired Combat Mod
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/the-witcher-3-next-gen-just-got-a-sekiro-inspired-combat-mod/
Here is something cool for our The Witcher 3 fans. Modder ‘Priler’ has released a new mod for the Next-Gen version of TW3 that aims to make its parry and counter systems feel closer to FromSoftware’s Sekiro.
Going into more details, this mod reduces the counter window from 0.4 seconds to 0.3. Moreover, it overhauls how arrow parrying/deflecting works. So, arrows can now be parried or deflected without skill. However, arrow parry and deflect will consume stamina. Plus, the mod removes a bug that allowed players to counter while dodging.
Counters will now always make a block sound. This will inform you of your successful counters. Plus, you will be able to parry any human melee blows, even melee heavy attacks.
>> Sadly, the article has no media showing the mod.

Hunter’s Abyss is a new fan expansion for Fallout 4
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/hunters-abyss-is-a-new-fan-expansion-for-fallout-4/
Fallout 4 fans, here is something for you today. Modder ‘Lonnie667’ has released a new fan expansion for this game, called Hunter’s Abyss. So, let’s see what this DLC-sized mod brings to the table.
As per its description, this fan expansion adds a new land in the southern part of the Glowing Sea. This new area comes with new quests, as well as new weapons, armor, magazines, and a player home.
Players will also be able to unlock a new settlement area. Moreover, several NPCs are fully voiced, and there is a new radio station featuring 1920’s jazz. Plus, you will be able to find five issues of a new magazine.
So, as with most DLC-sized mods, Hunter’s Abyss adds new free content to the game. Thus, I suggest downloading it from this link. Sadly, the modder has not shared any gameplay video for it.
>> While there’s no media of this expansion, the article has a video showing Fallout 4 running with over 300 mods.

Skyrim Mods Add Support for Large-Scale AO & Cloud Shadows
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/skyrim-mods-add-support-for-large-scale-ao-cloud-shadows/
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim got two new mods that aim to improve its graphics. The first one brings large-scale ambient occlusion support to the whole game, whereas the second introduces cloud shadows.
Skylighting creates a soft ambient shadowing effect under structures and dense woods. This enhances contrast and realism in areas without direct lighting. As such, you’ll get a more realistic image with a more advanced lighting system.
In the past, players could enable AO via ENBSeries. The problem with this solution was that ENBSeries did skylighting from one direction. Community Shaders does skylighting from every direction. Moreover, SkyLighting does not depend on info on the screen. As such, it won’t change with camera movement. Only static objects (houses, trees, landscape, etc.) can occlude the light, and dynamic objects only receive the occlusion.
In short, this is one of the best ways to add AO to this old title. And yes, proper AO can do wonders for old games like Skyrim. Just take a look at the comparison screenshots at the end of the article.
As for the second mod, it does exactly what its title says. It adds shadows from the clouds. The cloud shadows are aligned with the sun, using the actual clouds system rather than a scrolling texture. The cloud shadows are also used for volumetric lighting, meaning that godrays from the sun can be occluded too.
You can download these two mods from here and here. For the best results, the CS Team recommends using them with the SSGI Mod we shared in December 2024.
>> The article has the mentioned screenshots from the first mod and a short video showing the second one.

Monday news, the second part:

Retired PlayStation exec reckons Bloodborne PC hasn't happened because Miyazaki 'cannot do it himself, but he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/retired-playstation-exec-reckons-bloodborne-pc-hasnt-happened-because-miyazaki-cannot-do-it-himself-but-he-doesnt-want-anyone-else-to-touch-it/
What do we want? Bloodborne on PC! When do we want it? At some point in this lifetime would be really great, PlayStation, please.
(...)
The calls for a remaster have been around so long and are so frequent that it's now one of those go-to gaming memes: The runup to any major showcase will always have someone rumouring Bloodborne, while the tiniest hint that Sony remembers the game exists is seized-upon by feverish fans. And now the outgoing Shuhei Yoshida, who's just retired from PlayStation after 31 years in senior roles including president of SCE Worldwide Studios, has proffered his own theory about why it's so elusive.

Instead of role queue, Marvel Rivals wants to trust players with the epic responsibility of creating a functioning team by themselves: 'We’ll be taking a little bit more of a Marvel-inspired approach'

Three things in this life are guaranteed: taxes, death, and a fight breaking out in Marvel Rival's team chat when no one on your team goes Vanguard. No role queue has been a contentious subject for players ever since the new hero shooter was released—mostly due to players not really understanding what makes a good team composition—but despite some pleading from the community, it doesn't look like the devs are going to change anything.
"We totally get that the community is discussing role lock and role queue," Marvel Rivals director Guangyun Chen says in an interview with Metro. "At its core, it’s really about the game balance. So, what we want to offer is more line-up or more team-comp possibilities through our hero design and our team-up mechanic. So, we’ll be taking a little bit more of a Marvel-inspired approach.

Genshin Impact publisher Cognosphere (another name for HoYoverse) has agreed to pay a $20 million fine and will block children under the age of 16 from making in-game purchases without parental consent in settlement with the US Federal Trade Commission over allegations that it violated the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and "deceived children and other users about the real costs of in-game transactions and odds of obtaining rare prizes."

Wartorn is a top-down fantasy tactics game co-created by BioShock's lead designer, inspired by a forgotten Bungie title where you command dwarves to blow up zombies
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/wartorn-is-a-top-down-fantasy-tactics-game-co-created-by-bioshocks-lead-designer-inspired-by-a-forgotten-bungie-title-where-you-command-dwarves-to-blow-up-zombies/
When was the first time you noticed physics in a video game? For me, it wasn't bifurcating a headcrab-zombie with a saw blade in Half-Life 2, or seeing a Cleaner goon collapse into a stack of shelves in Max Payne 2. It was watching a bunch of zombie limbs roll down a hillside in Myth 2: Soulblighter.
Bungie's fantasy tactics game was best known for the chaos created by its bomb-throwing dwarves, and I distinctly recall being mesmerised by how their ordnance would scatter undead body parts across the game's undulating pastoral landscapes.
The Myth series has long been eclipsed by Halo's stratospheric success, but the Dallas-based Stray Kite Studios remembers it well enough. The developer's newly announced game Wartorn channels the frantic decision-making and kinetic combat of Myth and its sequel, and as one of the three other people who remember Bungie's fantasy series, I am very excited indeed.

Sons of the Forest's first patch in 6 months is a doozy, adding buildable rafts, a procedural wall system, and fixing more than 100 bugs

Sons of The Forest's cannibal-infested woods have been quiet lately. After a wildly popular early access period, it launched in February last year, with developer Endnight Games providing frequent updates over its first four post-release months. Yet the studio has been largely silent since a hotfix in June, with no further updates, announcements, or even tweets in the latter half of 2024.
That's all changed now. On Wednesday, Endnight Games issued a monster of a patch, adding several major features to its survive 'em up, making numerous systemic refinements such as improving weapon aiming and extending the world boundaries, and fixing scores upon scores of bugs.

Heroic programmer of the first three Final Fantasy games says he'd 'never seen any roleplaying games until Final Fantasy'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/final-fantasy/heroic-programmer-of-the-first-three-final-fantasy-games-says-hed-never-seen-any-roleplaying-games-until-final-fantasy/
Nasir Gebelli was an Iranian-American programmer who traveled to Japan on a work visa to work for Square in the late '80s and early '90s, where he was instrumental in the creation of the Final Fantasy series. Gebelli's code is so well-regarded that John Romero called him "my number one programming god, my idol" in Honoring The Code: Conversations with Great Game Designers. He's the one responsible for Final Fantasy 3's airship, which hoons along above the overworld map so fast that other programmers weren't able to recreate it.
Following his work on Secret of Mana, Gebelli retired, making rare public appearances like the time he was interviewed by Romero at an Apple II reunion in 1998. However, he recently spoke to NHK World, as spotted by GamesRadar, and talked about his time at Square. Prior to that, Gebelli had worked mainly on action games for the Apple II like the 1981 Defender-clone Gorgon. Going from that to the NES wasn't as much of a leap as you might think.

Aspyr's remasters of Tomb Raiders 1-3 were well received when they released last year, giving Core Design's foundational 3D action-adventures a graphical spit 'n' polish and a modernised suite of controls. But for the upcoming remaster of Tomb Raiders 4-6, Aspyr is going further, bringing back several features that were cut from the final game in that trilogy: Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness.

Update: Despite the TikTok ban's reversal, Marvel Snap is still blocked in the US
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/card-games/collectible-card-game-marvel-snap-has-been-banned-in-the-us-alongside-tiktok-but-its-dev-says-it-isnt-going-anywhere/
The popular free to play CCG Marvel Snap has been caught up in the United States TikTok ban, with players unable to access the game and instead met with a similar message about the takedown as on TikTok. Marvel Snap's publisher, Nuverse, is a subsidiary of TikTok owner ByteDance, but the possibility of Marvel Snap being affected by the ban was not reported prior to it taking effect, and seems to have taken even Nuverse by surprise.
Trying to log into the game on Steam just produced a log in error and a looping attempt to connect to my Google account, but this may be different for players with the game installed before the ban. On mobile, where most of Snap's users seem to play, launching the app presents the following message: "A law banning Marvel Snap has been enacted in the US Unfortunately, that means you can't use Marvel Snap for now. Rest assured, we're working to restore our service in the US. Please stay tuned!"
Update 1/19/25, 13:54 CST: Well that was fast, ByteDance has already reinstated access to TikTok in the United States following "assurances" from President-elect Donald Trump. Curiously, this doesn't seem to have trickled down to Marvel Snap yet: I am personally still unable to log into the game's desktop version, and I've seen sporadic complaints from players on social media.

Total Chaos, the full-fat remake of one of Doom's best mods, is a getting a demo 'very shortly'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/total-chaos-the-full-fat-remake-of-one-of-dooms-best-mods-is-a-getting-a-demo-very-shortly/
Released in 2018, Total Chaos is regarded as one of the best Doom mods ever made—a total conversion that transforms id Software's demon-blasting FPS into a grungy, low-fi horror adventure. Last year, creator Sam Prebble revealed Total Chaos is being remade into a full game, debuting its first trailer on The PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted. Now, Prebble has revealed that a demo for the remake is imminent, letting players get their grubby hands on the game for themselves.

Bethesda intended Starfield to be more violent, including 'meat caps' for beheaded astronauts, but the gore was toned down for technical reasons and because it 'didn't fit thematically'

For all this, it's worth remembering that Starfield is a decent game overall, one that, according to PCG's mag editor Robert, is significantly more fun now that it supports mods. Indeed, there's at least one gore mod available for Starfield already, so if the lack of gibs in Bethesda's sci-fi RPG was ever a problem, it has, in a way, solved itself.
(...)
As it turns out, Starfield was originally intended to be a gorier game than what Bethesda ultimately released, as revealed in an interview by Starfield's senior artist Dennis Mejillones. Speaking to Kiwitalkz, Mejillones explained that many of the grisly systems seen in Fallout 4 were implemented in Starfield initially, but were removed for a combination of technical and thematic reasons.

Survival-stealth sequel Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone hit its Kickstarter goal in four days
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/survival-stealth-sequel-chernobylite-2-exclusion-zone-hit-its-kickstarter-goal-in-four-days/
2021's Chernobylite was a survival-stealth FPS set in the Zone of Alienation, only a version of the Zone where the laws of physics had been broken and a whole lot of people with guns moved in. The obvious similarities to STALKER ended at the concept, and Chernobylite was actually about putting together a heist crew, recruiting companions and reinforcing your base of operations between missions around the Zone. It was thoroughly decent—not great, not terrible—exactly the kind of game a sequel could improve on in interesting ways.
Which is why it's good news that a Kickstarter for Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone has already passed its funding target. It's raised enough in the opening days of its crowdfunding campaign to pay for a couple of stretch goals, namely the option to switch between third-person and first-person in play, and all the guns from the original game being carried over into the sequel.

Price pressure from Nvidia lol. If that's true, then Radeon was expecting to launch RDNA 4 at a higher price than we thought.

It's surprising given the leaked price from Chiphell and other rumors. Maybe AMD expected Nvidia to go with a higher price to have a bigger gap between the 5070 and 9070XT and now want to drop the prize a bit more?

I don't know, it's confusing... and it's AMD's fault for still keeping all of this a secret when the launch is so close that retail usints have already been shipped to stores. What are they really waiting for?

5090 FE on the bottom

There is no way the bottom one isn't running toasty af at 575 watts

Jay was alowed to build a SFF system with a 5090 and also compared it with a 4090. It is indeed a short GPU.

I don't think the card will overheat, Nvidia has enough engineers to make sure of that, but, as Jay also did in the video, I wonder what could happen with those that mount the GPU vertically and pour all that heat into the motherboard.

If some chipsets can run hot by themselves, imagine with the heat of one of those on top.
