I don't give a sh*t about rich people, as you call them, but this is a problem that affects more than just the high end. If the xx80 card gets a price increase, then the xx70 will also follow suit because otherwise the xx80 wouldn't be attractive from a price/performance point of view. And if the xx70 rises its price, so will the xx60 and xx50 cards for the exact same reason. So it's not just the xx80 price going up that is the problem, but the fact that they carry the whole stack with them, hurting mid-range and low-end consumers as well. |
I care, because if the rich buy X product, then Y company starts raising the prices, and the rich don't seem to see money as an object, so they carry on dealing with those raised prices, meanwhile ppl like me are priced out and have to wait for companies like Nvidia to grow a conscience and realise they are leaving a chunk of customers behind.
I've been watching this for years, not only for Nvidia, but the AAA market as well, I'm being priced out of AAA's now more than I was a decade ago, and same goes for hardware now. I've got a choice, either pay my bills, or not pay my bills in order to somewhat afford decent hw, that's not really a choice now is it? (retail really don't pay for everything, just to let you know).
Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see
So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Ampere was like harking back to the Pascal days in actually delivering good uplifts for reasonable amount of money accross the stack. And now Nvidia seems to regressing back again, this time worse. Especially now that people are used to spending over north end of a near a grand or more on graphics cards. |
True enough, but the only way it's getting better is companies going for lower profit margins compared to previous gens, since manufacturing costs will increase even further in the future. The 5090 likely needs to be released for >$2000 and maybe even >$2400 if it comes in the 2-3 nm nodes to keep up the margins.
Would AMD do it when the market is as static as it is even when they offer the best value? I doubt it. Which means Nvidia also won't. Only Intel has a shot of being a disruptive force in the market, but will they?

Epic Games has officially released Unreal Engine 5.1
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/epic-games-has-officially-released-unreal-engine-5-1/
Last month, Epic Games released a preview version of Unreal Engine 5.1. And today, we are happy to report that Unreal Engine 5.1 has been officially released to all developers.
Unreal Engine 5.1 adds several features to improve efficiency for developers of games and other large-scale interactive projects, helping teams be more productive. For instance, Virtual Assets decouple the metadata from the object data, enabling developers to sync only what they need from source control systems such as Perforce—resulting in smaller workspaces and faster syncs for developers who don’t need access to the full object data.

Starfield delay was 'the right thing to do' says Phil Spencer
https://www.pcgamer.com/starfield-delay-was-the-right-thing-to-do-says-phil-spencer/
If Starfield had hit its original release date we'd be playing it right now. Bethesda's space-is-the-place RPG was scheduled to release on November 11, exactly 11 years after Skyrim came out. While Arkane's co-op vampire shooter Redfall didn't have a firm release date, it was also scheduled for a summer 2022 launch before Bethesda announced both Starfield and Redfall were being delayed into 2023. How did Microsoft, which spent $7.5 billion acquiring Bethesda's parent company Zenimax, feel about those two big upcoming games being delayed? According to Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, pretty good actually.

MultiVersus Season 2 has just begun, and among the updates coming at an unannounced date over its course are Marvin the Martian as a playable fighter, and a map based on Game of Thrones.
No one has spoken to Geralt's voice actor about appearing in The Witcher remake yet and it's making me nervous
https://www.pcgamer.com/no-one-has-spoken-to-geralts-voice-actor-about-appearing-in-the-witcher-remake-yet-and-its-making-me-nervous/
Despite unjust hostility from certain quarters of the PCG staff, I maintain that the first Witcher was a very good game indeed. But if we're going to remake it anyway, it'd be a good idea to sand down its rougher edges, not least of which is its infamously wonky voice acting.
But in a recent chat with Eurogamer, Geralt's voice actor in all three Witcher games, Doug Cockle, said that neither CD Projekt nor Fool's Theory (the studio behind the remake) have gotten in touch with him about re-recording the first game's dialogue for the remake. "I know as much as you do about this at the moment," said Cockle, "I don't know if they're going to bring me back in to do re-recording of the dialogue, I don't know if they're going to use dialogue from Witcher 1 as it exists. I don't know".
Mei's return to Overwatch 2 delayed by 'critical issue' with patch
https://www.pcgamer.com/meis-return-to-overwatch-2-delayed-by-critical-issue-with-patch/
Overwatch 2 can't keep its heroes in one place for longer than a week.
Mei, the latest hero to be removed for bug fixing, isn't returning to Overwatch 2 quite yet, according to an update from Blizzard on its forums. The game's mid-season patch has been delayed due to an unspecified "critical issue," the developer says. It wasn't stated whether this issue has to do with Mei herself, or something larger within Overwatch 2.
Update: The Overwatch 2 patch, which will restore Mei as a playable character, is now scheduled to come out on Thursday, November 17, at 11 am PT, according to a Blizzard tweet.
Overwatch 2 bug is letting heroes halt the objective while invisible

Nvidia has changed the way they measure TGP
In the past, they basically used it as a power target before but now, it's considered as a power limit under normal conditions. It's why we are seeing the 4080s and 4090s largely staying below their rated TDP under normal gaming workloads and such.

I think it depends on the amount of sales these products get. If the 4000 series ends up being a Turing situation and if TSMCs prices in general is too high, then it will eventually end up like a domino affect. Not enough product sales means less wafer reservation at TSMC. Less wafer reservation means at some point, TSMC might look at this and bring back their volume discounts because unused wafers are bad for them. Less sales also means the shortages will lossen up which also means bigger discounts.
This is why I think 4090 is a bad example of attempting to judge price trends because no matter which generation, there will always be people looking to buy top end hardware regardless of the price. Imo people should judge trends based on the rest of the stack. And if we look at the 4080 launch, while it is technically sold out in US, there's still plenty of stock in Canada and many other regions where as with the 4090, it was sold out within minutes. I think after the initial sales of the 4080, it will flop and eventually, get discounted and hopefully, 5000 series will be back to Ampere pricing trends.

Become a patient gamer. No need to chase the AAAA jank and hype. We all have backlogs the size of Mount Olympus.
https://www.reddit.com/r/patientgamers/ Patient gamers. Games drop in price. Most of the multiplayer ones where its good to play early are free 2 play now.
Biggest issue as an adult is time to play the gaemes though.
I think for those that may want to wait till 5000 series for maybe a better pricing future, I think the wild card will be cryto. Currently while BTC and such have been crashing, it's not fully dead but rather in hibernation. If the 5000 series comes out and mining once again becomes popular similar to how mining was popular during Pascal, skipped Turing and came back hard with Ampere, the the cycle repeats. Great MSRP prices due to low 4000 series sales, cucked either way thanks to scalpers.
Imo those that want to upgrade should either get Ampere/RDNA 2 or wait and see if 4080 and such get a price drop instead of waiting for Blackwell. You could also get RDNA 3 of course if you don't care about the Nvidia goodies but remember that Ray Tracing is getting more and more prominent in games and you don't need to max out RT settings to get a visual upgrade vs non-RT. And Reflex as measured by many reviewers does make a huge difference in input latency.
Hopefully though, AMD gives Nvidia run for their money.
