Just as it predicted last year, half of Capcom's sales are now on PC
https://www.pcgamer.com/just-as-it-predicted-last-year-half-of-capcoms-sales-are-now-on-pc/
Historically, Capcom has not been what you'd call a particularly PC-focused game publisher. The list of best-selling games on Capcom's "Platinum Titles" page, for instance, includes many non-PC releases. But the company said in October 2021 that it wanted to make PC its primary platform in the future, a strategy that included having 50% of its sales on PC by 2022 or 2023—and good job, everyone, because according to Capcom's most recent financial results, it's mission accomplished.
The PC percentage increase was revealed in a Q&A summary following Capcom's second-quarter results: Asked about the ratio of PC sales to total unit sales at the end of the quarter, the company replied, "Approximately 50%, with primarily catalog title sales growing." Catalog titles are previously-released games that are continuing to sell—the stuff that gets Phil Spencer excited about the Activision purchase, basically.

Nvidia fixes Modern Warfare 2 bug in its latest GeForce driver
https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-fixes-modern-warfare-2-bug-in-its-latest-geforce-driver/
Nvidia has released a hotfix for its latest Game Ready Driver that it says will fix the issues some players were experiencing in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The issue was reported (opens in new tab) by Call of Duty's lead PC studio Beenox on October 28, the day Modern Warfare 2 went into full release. "We've noticed some stability issues with the latest NVIDIA drivers 526.47 on Call of Duty #MWII," the studio tweeted. "For now we'd suggest you keep the 516.59, or 522.25 drivers."
(...)
Nvidia said the hotfix, which takes the driver to version 526.61, will take care of the following problems:

  • [Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II] Flashing corruption can be seen randomly while playing the game. [3829010]
  • VTube Studio may crash to black screen [3838158]
  • GPU stuck in P0 state after exiting certain games. [3846389]

Cyberpunk 2077 gets 4K & 8K textures for walls, roads, vegetation & more
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/cyberpunk-2077-gets-4k-8k-textures-for-walls-roads-vegetation-more/
Modders ‘V like tears’ and ‘traitsu’ have released new 4K and 8K textures for Cyberpunk 2077. These new textures overhaul the textures of numerous surfaces, like roads, walls, trees, vegetation, posters and more.
Needless to say that we highly recommend downloading these new textures. After all, these packs seem to be using AI techniques in order to enhance the original textures. In other words, they won’t ruin the game’s aesthetics, even though they will improve its visual quality.

Important: Cyberpunk 2077 mod lets you pet your cat
https://www.pcgamer.com/important-cyberpunk-2077-mod-lets-you-pet-your-cat/
Twitter account Can You Pet The Dog? has become so powerful, it's now essentially a gaming purity test: if a game has a dog, you better be able to pet it, or else. It's inspired pat-providing updates, mods, and a surge in new games making sure that you could put a virtual hand on a virtual snout to make a virtual pup happy. It's a grave injustice that there isn't an equally popular account dedicated to sharing the cat love. If there was, maybe we wouldn't have to be the ones asking: why doesn't Cyberpunk 2077 allow you to pet your cat?
It's taken a couple years, but a very important mod by a creator named deceptious on NexusMods now allows V, Cyberpunk 2077's playable character, to pet their cat Nibbles in the apartment. Now that's purrty neat. CD Projekt Red has released patch after patch for Cyberpunk 2077 since its notoriously poor launch back in 2020, but it's a sin that being able to pet Nibbles wasn't one of them—though I'll give them partial credit for letting me take photos of Nibbles with patch 1.6.

Well, here's a mod that replaces the Left 4 Dead 2 Charger with Homer in his car
https://www.pcgamer.com/well-heres-a-mod-that-replaces-the-left-4-dead-2-charger-with-homer-in-his-car/
Halloween is over. Done. Donezo. Finished. Jason Voorhees is out and Mariah Carey is in. Nothing horror is allowed for the rest of the year, and that means we've got to make some sacrifices. In dedication to the oncoming festive period we should all respect that scares are over until 2023 and install this symbolic mod, which swaps the Charger in Left 4 Dead for Homer Simpson driving his lilac sedan.
Why is Homer driving his lilac sedan a festive mod? I will not be taking questions at this time. But I can say that nothing has made me laugh today quite as much as seeing Homer Simpson run over this poor player fighting for their survival. Left 4 Dead is almost unrecognisable in this small clip from Twitter because of how many mods are stuffed into it. I'm pretty sure Overwatch loot boxes aren't even in Overwatch anymore, right? And then suddenly the team is torn apart by my favourite doughnut-loving idiot.
>> At this point, having to listen to Mariah Carey again is almost as scary as Jason Voorhees.

Fallout 4 horror mod Pilgrim returns, remastered, after vanishing for years
https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-4-horror-mod-pilgrim-returns-remastered-after-vanishing-for-years/
There are plenty of horrors in Fallout 4 already, but for those chasing a true horror experience, 2017 mod "Pilgrim: Dread the Commonwealth" completely transformed the post-apocalyptic RPG into a waking nightmare. Thick fog and spooky lighting turned Fallout 4's atmosphere into one of pure dread. As I said back then, it looked like a mix of Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl and The Road, with a bit of The Witch thrown in.
But not long after Pilgrim arrived it was taken offline, apparently after some disputes between the mod's creators. It resurfaced again in 2019, but was once more taken down. For a long while, there wasn't a great way to find Pilgrim's mod files without asking around in forums or using mirror sites.
Great news for horror fans: As spotted by PCGamesN, Pilgrim is back, and what's more, it's been remastered. Take a gander at the new trailer above. It looks spooky as hell.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is, for the most part, a pretty solid game. The guns feel good, the multiplayer is lively, and the Geneva Convention violations are rendered in eye-popping 4K HDR. But players still have a few complaints: not least of which is the game's weird, almost iPad-like UI design for its menus.

A couple of weeks ago, Square Enix filed a trademark in Japan for the term Symbiogenesis. With the word's definition being the basis for the 1995 classic Parasite Eve, it drummed up hype that a remake announcement was imminent.
Oh, how silly of us to put so much faith into Square Enix in the year of our lord 2022, because sike! It's not a Parasite Eve remake at all. Instead, the publisher has unveiled a new "collectible art" NFT project. In a 30-second trailer backed by an utterly ear-splitting invasive song, Square Enix proudly proclaims "untangle the story" before revealing the logo for the project and its release date: Spring 2023.

So today is the big day for Radeon team. AMD launched Zen 4 which was overpriced and is now selling similar to Rocket Lake numbers which is a CPU that launched in 2021. Meanwhile Zen 3 has the lead in sales while Intel's Alder/Raptor Lake is in second position thanks to the value the i5/i7 + cheap Z690 boards.

So their new CPU gen has largely been a flop, least until 7000X3D comes out. Now comes Radeon and Nvidia has largely played their cards which while the 4090 is very fast, we have seen tons of issues during launch such as driver problems and cable fires as well as a lack of DP 2.0. First two of the issues can/will be fixed so the important thing Radeon knows is the 4090 performance in every metric.

So for Radeon to win a generation so they can finally get above 20% market share, they need imo the 3 pillars that gamers want: Raster, Ray Tracing and Reflex.

Raster is the easiest one. They need to match Nvidia at a lower price. If they fall behind in Raster, Nvidia can come out with endless variants with lower prices to steal away any potential customers.

Ray Tracing is the hard one. Nvidia has proven for the past two generations that they are the leader in this category and they don't plan on losing it. Imo if AMD can come with in 15% while being 20% cheaper, they will be able to steal away market share.

Reflex is maybe the hardest one. The benefit of Reflex is to get a lower input latency at the same framerate. Based on hardware unboxes recent testing of DLSS 3, they did an input latency test. Without Reflex at Native resolution at 42 FPS, the total latency was 100ms which is what Radeon users are essentially experiencing as they don't have Reflex or an alternative. With Reflex, at the very same framerate and Native resolution, the total latency was 63ms. So just by turning on this feature in that test, the input latency was 40ms less at the same framerate and settings! The catch is Reflex needs to be implemented per game by the devs so an AMD alternative will need to do the same. As Nvidia has made Reflex mandatory part of DLSS 3, this means that on PC, Reflex adoption will be increased even more and adoption rate of Radeon features has been slower than Nvidia to say the least when you look at FSR.

So imo, they absolutely need the first two wins to succeed. If they aren't competitive in Raster, the price won't matter because Nvidia will come out with Ti versions and people are willing to pay a premium for Nvidia features. If they win the first but lag behind the second like they did with RDNA 2, same scenario. They can live without the third if they price their GPUs 20% lower than Nvidia counterparts which will be hard as they go down the stack. The ball's in their court.

Less ray tracing and such but i've never had ray tracing, so won't know what am missing.

Congratulations! It's an excellent card that I'm sure will serve you well for many years.

Apparently, we're going to have some sweet new prices for the Ryzen 5000s.

Ryzen 9 5950X: $799 → $549 ($250 discount)
Ryzen 9 5900X: $549 → $349 ($200 discount)
Ryzen 7 5800X3D: $449 → $329 ($120 discount)
Ryzen 7 5800X: $449 → $249 ($200 discount)
Ryzen 5 5600X: $299 → $159 ($140 discount)

It's clear that AMD wants to get rid of the remaining AM4 CPUs, so people go with AM5... or Intel.

I have the same problem as Boffer and get the prices in Euros but, to be frank, right now there are better deals in other stores.

Sinc eyou've given your opinion, I'll give mine: if anyone actually belives that AMD will get "close" (say, 15-20%) of Nvidia in terms of ray tracing, they're nuts and will be greatly disappointed. But not by AMD, but by themselves because of their own unreasonable expectations.

If AMD manages increase their RT performance by two or two and a half times, that will already be great, and if they go as far as triple their RT performance, then that would be awesome.

When it comes to raster, AMD already showed great performance with RDNA3, so I hope they haven't forgotten about that and manage to end roughly on par with Ada, maybe even surpassing it slightly.

As for their conterpart to Reflex, I have no idea. We don't know how AMD is going to do that (heck, we don't even know what are they going to come up with!), and so it's impossible to make a prediction. Or, at least, I can't.

So yeah, and again, imho, AMD's best case here is to get roughly on par in raster, to not be ridiculed with RT, and fight (as usual) with a lower price.

But well, we'll know in a bit more than an hour.

But well, we'll know in a bit more than an hour.

It's unreasonable yes but it's the type of RT leap AMD needs to compete. Virtually every new game that's coming out has some form of RT and older gamers are getting updated with RT. RT is a big selling point because most people don't want to upgrade to a new generation without cutting edge features and performance. On the other hand as with RDNA 2 prices this month, if AMD prices their GPUs accordingly to their RT performance, then it's a moot point.

And of course, we have a third competitor from Intel who has proven that competitive RT performance is doable and they are following in Nvidia's footsteps with XeSS. If Intel can get rid of their driver issues to a large enough degree, AMD will need to worry about them as well but that won't be an issue for a long time.

But yea, overall, it will be interesting to see what happens in an hour. At the very least, we will have AMD sponsored games that will start looking like they have RT instead of glorified SSR. The two games they are showing, one of them was being touted by devs to being RT heavy as an option so there may be hope.

But well, we'll know in a bit more than an hour.

I expect RDNA3 to beat Ampere in Raytracing performance, but to come close to Ada would be a miracle.

In raster, I think they will at least be close to the 4090, potentially while needing much less power, which would bode pretty well for mobile GPUs.

As for reflex, I don't think AMD will come with something similar yet, but I think the general design of RDNA3 could be flexible enough to come up with something similar down the road.

AMD is almost non-existant in mobile GPUs outside of the APUs. If they can get a foothold there with better efficiency then that could be a big win for them. But I doubt they'll be able to grow much on desktop unless they undercut the prices of NVidia really substantially.
