I will say that tech wise, the innovations Lovelace are bringing could have pretty big implications for the gaming industry as a whole:

GN has a very good video on this as well as them going over the prices and such. What's amazing is how correct kopite continues to be. Is that dude Jensen's pimp or what?

On another, and lighter, note, do you think Jau2c will make a video of this announcement praising the new cards and defending the price, and how we should preorder them as soon as possible before they run out?

After the "don't wait buy now video" It would be hilarious, and also the end of any credibility he has left.

Have a look for yourself, haven't watched it yet (still watching GN's video)

No, thanks. I don't like him. Well, at least, jusding from that pricey remark, he hasn't sold his sould yet.

Please excuse my bad English.

Not worth watching. He's very chill about the situation. He's like, yea the 4080 12GB is more expensive but you get more performance... He did say it would have been nice to have the prices of 40 series be similar to 30 series but least you get more performance.

Like dude...

So he has sold his soul to Nvidia. Shame.

If they're so dumb to do that they'll face the same situation: having spent billions in R&D, buying foundry capacity and the pilling up warehouses full of cards only to see them covered in spiderwebs due to lack of demand.

On a more serious note, if both AMD and Nvidia price their cards out of the leage of the mass consumers, the GPU market could shrink a lot, causing both of them to lose insane amounts of money.

Who knows, maybe EVGA decided to exit the market at the right time.

They probably priced as such to appease their board partners while keeping margins high. Hoping they'll clear the piles of unsold Ampere cards in the process; onto people holding out for good upgrades.

I just don't see it paying off for them. People are already fed of of ridiculous mark ups from the recent mining boom and scalpers only for Nvidia themselves to become the scalper lol.

But yeah I don't think its a good time to be board partner for Nvidia right now and EVGA probably got off good. Smells like we may have another Turing situation tbh..

The prices are fucked but at least DLSS is getting increasingly better and the potential of RTX Remix is really cool. The AI stuff gets me excited for the future.

Either that or he is very out of touch with the situation. It's why I like GN better.

Greg Salazar has a nice video about the prices of those cards:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrzgZaonmTc

In short, he was relieved that the prices were not the "Doom and Gloom" $2000+ he was fearing, but he still knows that objectively speaking, they are far too expensive and it's a big price hike over last gen even just by going with the 12GB as a benchmark.

On a related note, I wonder what price the 4080Ti and 4090Ti will get next year, because I'm sure NVidia will launch those too later on.

If AMD is competitive in performance (which I expect, at least in rasterization; in Raytracing I expect somewhat better than Ampere but can't keep up with Ada) and keeps the 7800 cards under $800, then is see absolutely no reason to buy a 4080 unless the price drops a good $200. Want more power than those? Get a 4090 if you can afford one, but stay the hell out of the 4080 cards.

I'll wait for independent reviews to see if DLSS3 is really that much better than DLSS2. Hopefully in some games you can test both on the same card.

I really hope this whole price isn't to please shareholders. They only care about the money, not the future of the company and pricing your good out of reach of the bulk of your consumers will do nothing to improve your profits  in the mid and long run.

Also, pricing them high to make Ampere cards appealing is a good way to reduce your stock on 3000 cards, but those that will buy one of them isn't going to buy a 4000 card in the short term. You're trading one sale for another. And with the Ampere cards falling in price, that tactic actually hurts AIB parterns, forcing them to sell at a loss. Not that Nvidia seems to care, but those AIB partners DO care, and will adjust its orders of Ada GPUs accordingly.

And yeah, most of us are very tired of the high GPU prices. The only saving point for Nvidia right now is that consoles are available in such short quantities that people can't quit PC gaming and go to consoles.
