Star Citizen's release client will likely be at least 100GB in size says RSI

In a recent Star Citizen Q&A with Robert Space Industries, the developers behind the mammoth crowdfunded space sim have estimated that the client will be around 100GB big at release. What’s more, due to assets that are at times 200MB each, patches could be anywhere between 2GB to 20GB in size.

CITIES: SKYLINES

Cities: Skylines becomes Paradox's biggest selling game at release: 250,000 copies sold

Paradox’s superb city-builder, Cities: Skylines has become the company's most successful title at launch. The game sold over 250,000 copies within its 24 hour release window, more than any other Paradox game, ever. The achievement has put wide grins on both developers Colossal Order, and Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester.

“We knew that we had a great game on our hands.” Wester said in a press release. “Our congratulations and thanks must also go to developer Colossal Order for making what is being widely described as the new benchmark of the city building genre.”

Cities: Skylines gets over 2,000 mods in one day

Cities: Skylines has been live for just over a day, and if the Steam Workshop is anything to go by, its longevity is assured. There are, at the time of writing, 2,353 entries in the Steam Workshop ranging from ambitious, entirely new models to new colours for existing buildings. I’m already making a list for my next city.

Even if sometimes we forget it, the retail market for PC games is still alive, and Grand Theft Auto V will also have a physical launch that will come in... 7 DVDs!

Wow!

Wait a sec, so we get 7 CD's in which to install the complete game from?, did I just come from early 2004 where it was the norm for WoW to have that many CD's?.

Also what's the asking price?, just wondering since we've had to wait nearly 2 years and all.

DVDs, not CDs! Looking at Steam, the game is 65GB in size, it would take something like 100 CDs to store it

And the price is... full retail price 60 $/€, but it can be found cheaper, £34.85 on Amazon uk

lol I meant to say DVD's.

Not so sure about the price though, that's kinda what full new priced AAA's roughly cost on Steam/ physically in the UK, I was expecting them to make it say £25-30 for the massive delay.

Well, here in Spain new PC games cost 60€ but you can find GTA V for 45€.

And if you want it cheaper, just wait an extra couple of months and I'm sure you'll be able to find it for less than £30. After all, Steam will have its Summer Sale in June, and it will probably get at least a 15% discount during the sales.

I'll probably wait for a few months for the price to go down since new AAA PC releases here are typically £39.99 (basically £40), sometimes £35.

The Steam summer sale sounds like a safe bet, though I'd hope R* would lower by then, in the emantime I'll go for Witcher 3, I don't mind paying full price for that since there hasn't been a strange alienation from CDPR or a 17 month delay with specialised adverts made for us in case we're too dumb to figure it out =P.

It's not that I'm trying to be jewish or anything, I just feel they don't deserve to charge at full price for such a long wait, all that's being thrown together like it's a new feature is the norm we expect with most PC games, it kind of feels like a dumb sarcy slap to my face with how they've gone about it. They can totally charge full price for it but that doesn't mean I'll buy it at full.

I agree on everything you said except for The Witcher 3.

I'll wait a couple of months to get it because, given what happened with the first two games, I'm not sure how playable will the game be at launch, even with the delays.

Well given that GTA V is massive in file size, espeically with all the disks, they made the promise that with these delays their game will be "polished" for PC gamers from "day 1" and I expect we'll no doubt have a 15gb patch and unplayable online/server issues with singleplayer bugs, I honestly can't see Witcher 3 being as bad as what we know will happen with GTA V, it's had problems on 4 platforms so far upon release and even during it's time on all 4, it'll have the same issues on PC.

I mean if Witcher 3 suffers issues it will be a quality issue, GTA V already has quality bug/performance issues and quantity when you combine 4 platforms with a soon to be 5th one.

That said it's probably good to wait a while and see how W3 performs anyway, I've still yet to see this fabled "ultra" settings the devs are avoiding in terms of the PC version talk.
