Well it is Nvidia hardware and we have seen the Steam Deck perform surprisingly well with some Ray Tracing titles on AMD hardware. As the Switch 2 is meant to be a platform that will last them the next 5-7 years, I think they should add in Ray Tracing for compatibility with third party games. Like Metro enhanced edition for example won't work on platforms that doesn't have some form of Ray Tracing.

Yea while on the face of it, they may want to sound like the good guys, in reality, they probably want a huge sum of cash. Assuming Nvidia doesn't cave in to their demands by this Friday, AMD and Intel should have a pretty good idea as to where Lovelace will land. While neither AMD/Intel should be looking at the actual source code because if they implement them directly into their own code, Nvidia will sue them to bits... I am sure they are looking at all these specifics and theorizing how Lovelace will perform and how to combat them.

It's just that I think that Nintendo is already pushing with what they have on the Switch. If they decide to go full on with RT, then it just means Switch 2 will sound powerful on paper, but produce 30fps based games at 720p again, or worse and possibly blurry. I know we have DLSS 2.1, but it'd also have to mean that Nintendo would have to push for it as well on their system, in order to make use of this RT.

I also think that if they're going to get into RT, they should either go all in for it or not at all. Cyberpunk on current gen only going for shadows is like the half arsed attempt I don't want to see Ninty doing if it decides to go in for RT. I'm a go big or go home kinda guy when I see already rich companies. If it was a tiny mom & pop company, then yeah I can imagine cutting things at the halfway point, but this is Nintendo, they can afford to go big if they wanted to, and I do want to see them go big, instead of cutting corners to make bank on their system (like they've been doing since GC).

Well the way I see it is that it doesn't really matter if Nintendo uses RT or not on their own games. Having a RT capable console means wider compatibility with games. And yea it will be 720p 30fps for those devs that want to do it but it will be their choice. I'd rather have the switch 2 give more options to developers than less cause sometimes, third party devs can be very stingy. Nintendo also having access to DLSS could make it part of their API which should mean developers being able to implement it on their games pretty easily.

I just hope it means devs actually use the power this time, because although we've got gyro functionality with the Switch, not every dev is using it, and I'm reminded once again of devs that didn't use the touch screen functionality of the 3DS, nor the extra juice the N3DS offered (Terraria were pretty much the only 3rd party I knew that actively mentioned to play their game on N3DS, if you wanted to play their game on a Ninty system at that time, which I did and it ran marginally better than on 3DS).

Stalker 2 studio GSC Game World was one of the first to speak out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and to call for financial aid for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Today the studio released a brief video emphasizing the increasing danger in the country, which has forced it to move the development of Stalker 2 "to the sidelines" while it focuses on protecting its employees and their families.

Battlefield 2042 gets antsy about whether 128 players is a good idea after all
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/battlefield-2042-gets-antsy-about-whether-128-players-is-a-good-idea-after-all/
Battlefield 2042 has had a rocky old launch (...) Players aren't happy, the publisher isn't happy, and it doesn't seem like DICE is over the moon either.
A new blogpost on 'core feedback' details some of the substantial improvements that DICE intends to make in the game, focusing initially on the game's map design. It identifies five key areas to work on in the game's maps: traversal, intensity, line of sight, objective paths, and cover.

Elden Ring has Bloodborne's facial deformation sliders hidden in its character creator
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/elden-ring-has-bloodbornes-facial-deformation-sliders-hidden-in-its-character-creator/
FromSoftware's games have been using the same basic foundation for the character creator since Demon's Souls. Each entry makes minor tweaks to how it functions, and one of the biggest changes was the addition of facial deformation in Bloodborne. This was not accessible by the player: it was there so that NPC characters could be created whose faces showed the toll of repeated blood infusion.

Hideo Kojima recently went on a minor digression about Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, interesting in its own right as part of the series creator talking a little more openly about the games in recent years—in the immediate aftermath of the Konami split, Kojima didn't talk much about Metal Gear. Before we go any further: spoilers, obviously.

I don't think I've ever been this disappointed in a game's writing team. Like yeah, Cyberpunk's lore was more or less mangled and tossed aside, it's story not all that concise and connected, but WoW has had years and years worth fo established lore, and the current writing team has been doing it's damned hardest to fuck it all away and reduce it to nothing.

Imagine trying to use a well known and established character to advertise your next version of classic, only to fuck him away, to be forgotten forever in the current expansion...

Seriously Blizz, your writing team absolutely sucks ass, and I really wish you would stop fucking around with established characters. You already perma deleted Garrosh, forgot about Varian and now Saurfang, turned Sylvanas into a Mary sue who's going to somehow be magically forgiven for her crimes (just you watch, it's basically waiting for her going by the current level of writing), and after showing us that cinematic to show off SL expansion, using Arthas, a popular character, you now reduce him to literally nothing and claim he's going to be forgotten...

I'm sorry, but this is just incredibly dumb as fuck to watch happen, especially when you consider that Jaina hardly gets any fucking words in, let alone Uther, Arthas's teacher and mentor, while mary sue Sylvanas good gal, gets the majority of words in and the final last word. Like yeah, Arthas did her bad, but she burned a world tree filled with innocent women and children, and the writing team are doing their best to forget that actually happened.

I've never wanted a writing team fired so badly. They clearly don't care or give a fuck for established lore, and they know full well they wrote themselves into a corner, so instead of admitting this, they just retcon shit and make mary sues for those written into that corner. Even uther is magically forgiven for deliberately passing judgement on Arthas, a job which was ultra specifically given to the Arbiter, and well, should be punishable by eternal damnation, which Uther is never getting, because the writing team cannot stick to their established lore, let alone giving actual consequences for their actions.
