Dying Light system requirements, now with less crazy

Comment

Techland has released the system requirements for the free-running, zombie-slaying action romp, Dying Light. These system requirements are actually the second batch. The first demanded 16GB of RAM in the recommended list, and a GTX670 as a minimum GPU. Thankfully, this seems to have been a mistake, and the list has been updated with more reasonable requirements.

Have a look at them below.

It still asks for an i5-2500/FX-8320 min. for the CPU.

They may be less crazy, but they are still insane.

Dota 2's Frostivus event is cancelled, again; team to instead work on engine update

Comments2

For the third year in a row, Dota 2’s Frostivus festival has been canceled. But unlike the previous two, it won’t be replaced by another e.g. The Greevling, Wraith Night. Valve’s Dota 2 team have made a statement on the matter, and their excuse is rather exciting.

Valve are planning an engine update to Dota 2 in the first half of next year, and committing resources to a winter themed game mode would sap too much manpower from this exciting addition. But rejoice, as Valve have assured that this doesn’t mean we won’t see feature filled patched in the near future.

“We are already hard at work on our next major update,” said Valve. “Although we will continue to avoid building new game modes until the engine improvements come along.”

Batman: Arkham Knight reimagines the Scarecrow as a skyscraper-tall bagzilla

Chrises Nolan and Bale might be going through a conscious uncoupling with Batman, but caped crusading with a gothic bent lives on in Rocksteady’s second sequel, Batman: Arkham Knight. The Elder Scrolls Online NPCs to be murdered and mugged by players after Christmas

Comment

Our Nick catalogued the many launch faults of Zenimax’s more-deserving debut in his Elder Scrolls Online review. But its biggest problem, to my mind, was the pervading sense of impermanence so at odds with Skyrim. Any mark you made on Tamriel was soon buffed out - preemptively reset for the next hero to come along.

A new year will bring far-reaching “freedom and sandbox-style elements” to the MMO, however. The long-talked-about justice system will touch down on test servers in January - and the blessed lives NPCs have been living will come to an end.

Ghost Recon Phantoms pulls off unlikely infiltration of Steam's most-played list

Comment

You’re a PC gamer, so you’ll know that even a mediocre launch can decimate the population of a decent multiplayer game. But there’s nothing in the hurriedly-scribbled rulebook for online games to prevent publishers from simply trying again.

Final Fantasy XIV was redeveloped practically from scratch to become one of the best MMOs on PC the second time around. And the half-remembered Ghost Recon Online, miserly and malfunctioning upon its first release in 2012, has now been successfully rechristened as Phantoms. It’s currently one of the most-played free-to-play games on Steam.

The cooperative stealth-shooter is being rebooted as The Phantom Pain’s online component, and resembles a base-storming bally good time in its first video.

Evade a war of the worlds in Orphan

Indie developer Windy Hill Studio has submitted its current project to Steam Greenlight, and it’s quite the looker. Orphan uses stark black silhouettes against beautiful backdrops to tell the story of a (presumably parent-less) boy escaping the stampede of alien machines that have landed on earth.

It’s Limbo meets H.G Wells. And we’re just fine with that.

Ubisoft expects Assassin's Creed Unity patch 4 to fix remaining bugs

Assassin’s Creed Unity is a billboard sized advertisment for the follies of annualised games, which has lead to folks over at Ubisoft scurrying around, attempting to plug in the gaps and fix the game-breaking bugs. The last patch fixed over 300 bugs, but that didn’t solve all the problems. Patch 4 is underway, and a full preview of what it fixes is expected this week.

In the meantime, Ubisoft has released details on the biggest problems it’s set to tackle.

Team Fortress 2 bolstered by body warmers and bathing equipment in End of the Line

Even before Team Fortress 2 and Dota 2 item makers starting earning an average of $15,000 each, the shooter community was getting organised. Last year, TF2 item creators marshalled a team and, with the backing of Valve, released the Robotic Boogaloo update to “huge success”.

The Boogaloo was a test, to see if the TF2 community could follow through on an ambitious project with deadlines - and they passed. Hence today’s End of the Line release - a bundle of community cosmetics, taunts and tools, built and deployed by the most able fans on the Steam Workshop.

Cube and Me: It's all fun and games until an adorable alien dies

Comment

Cube and Me lulls you into a false sense of security. As the new guardian of a group of adorable alien cubes, all smiling faces and the illusion of personality, you are tasked with making them happy. You feed them, clean up their poo (don’t worry, they actually excrete crumpled bits of paper), wash them when they get dirty, and comfort them when they get sad. You grow attached to them.

It’s all lovely until one of them dies at the hands of an evil robot, or you sell one of them off to feed your potted plant addiction. All of a sudden, Cube and Me goes to a dark place, as you watch weeping aliens freak out as one of their number is snatched up by a big mechanical claw. This never happened in E.T.

That’s not going to happen, though. Community manager Edward Lewis made an announcement on the forums, yesterday, confirming that there would not be a wipe at launch.
