So, does anyone have any (realistic) idea when this fall's graphics cards will actually hit the market? I'm asking because I'm getting kind of impatient with my GTX 770, and I'm getting interested in a temporary upgrade (somewhere along the lines of GTX 1650 or so; exact card still undecided though) if supplies stay low for a long time.

I think March-April seems more realistic right now. Definitely not this year anymore, and I doubt January or February will be enough to build up stock - and hopefully bring down the prices a bit from their current (extreme and over-)high.

That's kind of what I was thinking, except I was thinking more along the lines of summer instead of March-April... I mean I guess in March-April stocks might be decent, but I'm a bit worried about prices at that point. I might be willing to wait until January or February, but anything beyond that seems like a pretty long wait. Unless I run into different estimates about stock and prices, I might get something very soon, especially with all the sales going on.

So hardware unboxed is reporting on the weird pricing issue when it comes to the 6800 XT and how you can't find any AIBs hitting that $650 MSRP. The lowest seems to be $100+ more than the MSRP.

You will need to skip to 9 minutes and 56 seconds.

But the jist of it is that according to AIBs, the markup they are making is lower than ever and AMD is charging the AIBs a lot more than what the $650 MSRP is supposed to be. It's why the cards are so expensive compared to reference. Nvidia seems to be doing this for the 3070 as well.

While I have no reason to doubt what's said in the video, I find the conclusion "funny" given that AMD ha said that they'll stop producing reference cards early 2021 (source). Not that one thing goes against the other, but it makes you question why they're increasing the prices like that if it won't last long.

It's happening, comparing these 2 videos 6800XT looks clearly ahead of the geforce 3070 performance in RTX.

Of course, using youtube videos like this, especially on a game like WoW is nonsense because having different mounts, characters, the amount of people on screen and etc all can have an affect on performance. Orgrimmar for example, the 3070 has a lot more people/mounts than the 6800XT. The sad part is how 6800 XT seems to be comparable against the 3070 on a game like WoW which isn't even that heavy on RT affects. The real test will be on games like Cyberpunk where they will really tax the GPU with RT.

I was talking about the average FPS in those areas.

6800XT looks to be clearly ahead: Here's AMD

Nvidia:

But yes, Cyberpunk and Far cry 6 will be interesting.

There's still a ton more NPC's on Nvidia's side and even fx going off via a few mounts as well. Again, Yuri is absolutely right in regards to the comparisons not being 100% fair, and WOW is absolutely not the game t even test with a GPU either.

You should want to see tests with Cyberpunk, forget WoW entirely, it's not even worth scrapping over who's ahead of what.

I think it's time to get your eyes checked if you don't see the difference in those two pictures and why the 3070 has such a large performance difference in this scene. Here's a hint: the 3070 has a ton more people/mounts which results is more ray traced shadows and etc. I even talked about it on my post.

The most amusing thing I find about using WoW for anything is the GPU/CPU load for both sides being so little which indicates a severe bottleneck somewhere else for both GPUs.

Ngl, but if you remember this zone from legion:

It used to be filled with a plethora of NPC's and players alike, and even when I set the game to high, it still brought down my fps to the 30's, and that's with an i76700k/1080ti and 16gb DDR4 ram. I've also had performance woes whenever players show up in towns on ESO too. I imagine the same sort of thing occurs in FFXIV as well.

I think MMO games put too much into player demands from the CPU/GPU, but then again, WOW is ancient and ESO came out in 2014, and XIV around the same time.

I'd like to see how Amazon's MMO performs on similar hw for player counts on screen.

Turn 3D scans of real places into Teardown maps
https://www.pcgamer.com/turn-3d-scans-of-real-places-into-teardown-maps/
Early Access heist adventure Teardown is currently one of the most popular games on Steam, and for good reason. Not only does it let you successfully pull off a heist by just smashing every obstacle in your way, it looks like you can also chuck in maps built from 3D scans of real places.

Cyberpunk 2077 forces MechWarrior 5 Steam release into next year
https://www.pcgamer.com/cyberpunk-2077-forces-mechwarrior-5-steam-release-into-next-year/
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries launched on the Epic Games Store on December 10, 2019, meaning that after the usual one-year exclusivity period it would be eligible for release on other platforms on December 10, 2020. But something else is happening on that day that you may have heard about—Cyberpunk 2077, in case that's not clear—and that's led Piranha Games to push the launch onto other storefronts, and the Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC, into 2021.

Kingpin Reloaded is delayed, and for once it's not Cyberpunk 2077's fault
https://www.pcgamer.com/kingpin-reloaded-is-delayed-and-for-once-its-not-cyberpunk-2077s-fault/
Kingpin Reloaded is an FPS remaster that I'm legitimately interested in. The original, released in 1999, wasn't a big hit but it sure was memorable: Violent, profane, and with a weird, janky visual style that made character models look like they were constantly on the verge of melting. It also had some wickedly sharp difficulty spikes.

Cyberpunk 2077's DLC will remain secret until after the game's launch
https://www.pcgamer.com/cyberpunk-2077s-dlc-will-remain-secret-until-after-the-games-launch/
It's entirely unsurprising that Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting some post-launch DLC. But it'll be a while yet before we hear from any future adventures in Night City, with CD Projekt keeping their plans under wraps until after the game's proper release.

Edmund McMillen apologises for 'radio silence' and says Legend of Bum-bo will get its free DLC next year
https://www.pcgamer.com/edmund-mcmillen-apologises-for-radio-silence-and-says-legend-of-bum-bo-will-get-its-free-dlc-next-year/
The Legend of Bum-bo, a prequel to The Binding of Isaac, is a pretty good smoosh-up of deckbuilding and match-four with an absolutely gorgeous aesthetic mimicking cardboard cut-outs. While the reception was generally positive, the game launched in something of a bad state and received many patches in quick succcession before, in December last year, it all went quiet.

Would your favourite game be better if you could smell it? This startup thinks so
https://www.pcgamer.com/new-game-smell/
We’ve always felt there was something missing from videogames, and it turns out it was smell. After years of having our eyes and ears stimulated to the point of potential nerve damage, it’s clearly time for our noses to have a go. Happily, a Texas startup is here to bring the gift of scent to games both in and out of VR.
>> Erm... Even if it works, I think I'd give it a pass.

Iron Harvest's first DLC reimagines the Russian Revolution with stompin' great mechs
https://www.pcgamer.com/iron-harvests-first-dlc-reimagines-the-russian-revolution-with-stompin-great-mechs/
Ah, comrades! The time has come to raise arms against the bourgeoisie—whether that arm is your own flesh and bone or the reinforced steel of a steam-powered battlemech. Announced today, Iron Harvest's first DLC sees its alt-history setting ask a question I never knew needed answering: what if the Russian Revolution had giant killer robots?

And that's it. Until next time, have a happy and gaming weekend.
