Humble Monthly got Kingdom Come this month. Currently trying it out. I'm still in the prologue but so far it seems very solid. The writing really is great and they absolutely nailed the medieval feel in both design and atmosphere. Graphics are pretty good but could be slightly better. Performance on my 1080 at 1440p on very high settings is around 60fps. There are weird dips in cutscenes below 30fps that cause the sound to go out of sync and is quite annoying. The cutscenes are really great, so it hurts double.
Gameplay wise it's standard fare. Melee seems refined and responsive for the most part but I hope I won't have to use it much, since I'm going for a stealthy archer build. There are plenty of skill perks, maybe too many. Having perks that buff a certain aspect but debuff another is a neat thing and adds to the realism.

There are 2 big things that are just terrible game design.
1. You still need a special item to be able to save anywhere. This doesn't really add much to the game and is simply just annoying. A game where you can basically die at random should let you save at any point. Definitely gonna mod that once I get to the open world portion.
2. They use the shitty level system from Elder Scrolls, learning by doing. While this is supposed to add to the realism since it works much like real life it's terrible in execution. It forces the player to cheese the system and as a result the player will behave entirely unrealistic. For example run and jump around to increase vitality, killing farm animals to increase hunting skills, look for random fights to increase melee skills etc. It just feels bad. I will have to hope that the game is engaging enough for me to overlook this.

Still, so far it's better than I expected. Apart from the stupid game design choices it very much feels like a polished Gothic.

That leveling system is quite old, and if incorporated properly it can be pretty satisfying. Thing is, most games respawn enemies, so you can game the system. Funny you mention Gothic, since Gothic does not respawn enemies at random, rather after crucial points in story (IIRC after chapters) and they are all placed by designers, not at random.

There will always be ways to game a system, in XP system it's usual XP farming...unless you limit a player in certain ways, whether it's ticking clock on your main quest, non-respawing enemies, XP only for finishing quests, one guild refusing to teach you if you belong to other guild...

Sad for the Hand of Fate developers. Really hope they can survive and get enough money together to continue development at a later point in time.

Surprise! Today the news come a bit earlier than usual as, but don't worry, there's still a lot of them:

https://www.pcgamer.com/download-this-hotfix-if-nvidias-recent-gpu-driver-made-your-mouse-act-wonky/
Nvidia earlier this week rolled out a GeForce driver update (v431.60 WHQL) that introduced official support for the GeForce RTX 2080 Super and optimizations for Wolfenstein: Youngblood, but it also broke the normal operation of some mice. If your mouse cursor has been acting erratically since applying the driver, there is a hotfix available for that very issue.
According the support page for the hotfix driver (v431.68), it addresses an issue where the "mouse cursor may render incorrectly after exiting a game."

https://www.dsogaming.com/news/demo-for-unreal-gold-port-in-gzdoom-engine-is-now-available-for-download/
Let me start this article by saying that I really don’t know why someone has decided to port the classic Unreal game into the GZDoom Engine. I mean, GZDoom is not THAT advanced compared to Unreal Engine so I don’t really know what is happening here. Still, I find it really cool witnessing a 1:1 port of Unreal in a completely different engine, which is why I decided to share it with you.
Modder ‘dbdarius1’ has released a demo of his Unreal Gold port in GZDoom Engine so that everyone can download and test it. This demo features the Vortex 2 map and lets you test some weapons, mechanics, atmosphere, items and more.

Someone is working on a Far Cry Remake in CRYENGINE 5 that already looks better than the original
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/someone-is-working-on-a-far-cry-remake-in-cryengine-5-that-already-looks-better-than-the-original/
Earlier this week, we reported on a Far Cry total conversion mod for Crysis, Far Cry Reloaded. Now I know that some were disappointed with that fan remake as – and even though it’s a fan WIP project – it did not look particularly impressive. However, another Fan Cry remake project that aims to bring Crytek’s classic shooter in CryEngine 5 is currently in progress, and it already looks better than the original version.
2Key [D. Ray] has been working on this project for a while and has recently shared a video, showcasing its latest build. Now the good news here is that this Far Cry Remake looks way better than both Far Cry Reloaded and the original Far Cry game.

Far Cry 3 Redux mod available for download, overhauls & improves various gameplay features
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/far-cry-3-redux-mod-available-for-download-overhauls-improves-various-gameplay-features/
Far Cry fans, here is something for you today. Modder ‘Hunter’ has released version 1.0 of Far Cry 3 Redux; an immersion focused project that aims to overhaul various aspects of Far Cry 3. This mod is similar to the Redux project that was released for Far Cry 2 (though it obviously changes/improves/overhauls different features).
Going into more details, Far Cry 3 Redux disables auto reload , improves weapon model FOV, slightly rebalances crafting, improves weapon range and ballistics, replaces minimap with a simplified compass, removes all world icons for extra immersion, removes the crouch icon and blinking objects, adds more weapon attachments, adjusts store prices, removes or simplifies many unnecessary button prompts, adds camo outfits and removes the blur effect from distant islands.

Someone decided to mod a gun into Fallout: New Vegas that fires extremely deadly baseballs
https://www.pcgamer.com/someone-decided-to-mod-a-gun-into-fallout-new-vegas-that-fires-extremely-deadly-baseballs/
Guns shoot bullets. This is a well-established standard feature of guns since the invention of guns. Except in some videogames, when guns shoot different things instead of bullets. Maybe sawblades or lasers or, if you wanna get really weird, skunks. This gun, which someone has modded into Fallout: New Vegas nine years after its release, also does not shoot bullets. It shoots baseballs. "My first mod for Fallout: New Vegas adds a .44 Baseball shotgun (?) revolver that can be found in the Vikki and Vance Casino in Primm," writes modder T3MBONE on Nexusmods. I love many things about this. That people are still tinkering with Fallout: New Vegas, that new modders are still modding New Vegas, and that T3MBONE thought about what to do for their first mod, and went, hmm... "baseball gun?"

Let's go with the second part of the Monday news, featuring a lot of info from the Quakecon:

Team Fortress 2's hat market has crashed and rare items are going cheap
https://www.pcgamer.com/team-fortress-2s-hat-market-has-crashed-and-rare-items-are-going-cheap/
An influx of rare items is playing havoc with Team Fortress 2's economy. Unusual quality items are appearing in a high number of crates and the marketplace is starting to be flooded with them, driving down their price. Today, a warning went up on the unofficial Team Fortress 2 subreddit telling players to stop trading items until the glitch is fixed.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood players have already figured out how to get unlimited coins
https://www.pcgamer.com/wolfenstein-youngblood-players-have-already-figured-out-how-to-get-unlimited-coins-without-microtransactions/
Wolfenstein: Youngblood has a collectible in-game currency that can be used to purchase items like character skins, weapon upgrades, pep boosts, and consumables. Some of the skins can also be purchased with gold bars, a premium currency available for separate purchase if you don't feel like waiting for the coins to build up. Or, as redditor Calibrono discovered, you can use a cheat to give yourself an unlimited coins and buy every damn thing in the game before you kill your first Nazi.

If you can't join or invite a friend in Wolfenstein: Youngblood, try making your Steam profile public
https://www.pcgamer.com/wolfenstein-youngblood-cant-join-friend/
When James began working on his Wolfenstein: Youngblood review, I volunteered to be his co-op buddy, but Youngblood refused to believe that he was waiting for me to join his game. "You have no friends you can join that are playing Wolfenstein: Youngblood," it told me.
That awkwardly-worded sentence frustrated me for 20 minutes, because James could see me just fine, but his invites never reached me. Eventually I figured out that to fix the problem, I had to change my Steam profile privacy settings from 'Friends Only' to 'Public.' After that, my friends list showed up in-game just fine.

RAW developers call Kickstarter 'unprofessional,' plan an IndieGoGo campaign next
https://www.pcgamer.com/raw-developers-call-kickstarter-unprofessional-plan-an-indiegogo-campaign-next/
On July 15th, a day before its Kickstarter campaign would have closed with $191,429 pledged (over double its asked-for funding), GTA Online-like sandbox game RAW's campaign was suspended.
RAW had broken Kickstarter's 'honesty and transparency' requirements by writing in a project FAQ that the game could not be completed with the money asked for during the campaign and would require additional funds later. The developers are now headed to IndieGoGo, a funding platform with fewer restrictions, to raise the $300,000 they think it will take to release RAW in early access.
>> It looks to me that they're the unprofessionals, not Kickstarter,

https://www.pcgamer.com/relegend-the-monster-farming-sim-jrpg-is-coming-to-steam-at-the-end-of-august/
Re:Legend is a "sim JRPG" inspired by games like Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley, except that instead of raising crops and farm animals, you're taming and raising monsters known as Magnus. It enjoyed a tremendously successful Kickstarter campaign in 2017 and then connected with publisher 505 Games for a planned Steam Early Access release in 2018.

The launch version of the game will see "massive feature and content updates" including a full eight-act story campaign with new zones, maps, and bosses, two new playable characters, updated crafting and loot drop systems, new skills trees, and end-game content.

Players who want a low-stress way to play autobattler Dota Underlords without risking their precious rank will soon be able to do that, as it's getting separate casual and ranked modes in the next update. As Valve's blog post puts it, with tongue firmly in cheek, "we've made the ground-breaking design decision to have two ways of playing".

Fallout 76 private servers are 'coming sooner than you think'
https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76-private-servers-are-coming-sooner-than-you-think/
There's always been a laundry list of requests from the Fallout 76 community—features and systems that players would like to see added to the game. A few of these requests were addressed during the Fallout 76 roundtable at QuakeCon 2019 today. Perhaps the most notable was a question about private servers for Fallout 76, which Bethesda originally said would be added to the game sometime after launch.
Private servers will be coming "in the near future" said development director Chris Mayer during the roundtable.

Morgantown map coming in September for Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter
https://www.pcgamer.com/morgantown-map-coming-soon-for-fallout-76-nuclear-winter/
At the Fallout 76 roundtable at QuakeCon today, a new map was announced for Nuclear Winter—Fallout 76's battle royale mode, which is currently in beta. The new map will feature the Morgantown area, which includes locations like the Morgantown Airport and Vault-Tec University. It's also the location of the tallest point in Appalachia, which could add a bit more verticality to the BR mode.

Fallout 76 raids begin August 20
https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76-raids-begin-august-20/
Raids will arrive in Fallout 76 on August 20, we learned during a panel discussion at QuakeCon today. These raids are designed for 4-player teams and will take place in Vault 94. A second raid in a different Vault is being developed as well and will arrive "in the not too distant future," though there isn't a concrete date set.

Doom Eternal's multiplayer Battlemode will feature 6 maps and 5 playable demons at launch
https://www.pcgamer.com/doom-eternals-multiplayer-battlemode-will-feature-6-maps-and-5-playable-demons-at-launch/
Doom Eternal releases on November 22, which isn't all that far off. To whet our appetites during the QuakeCon keynote today, we were given got a closer look at Doom Eternal's multiplayer Battlemode, which pits one player as the Slayer against two player-controlled demons.

New Doom Eternal enemy the Doom Hunter revealed at QuakeCon
https://www.pcgamer.com/new-doom-eternal-enemy-the-doom-hunter-revealed-at-quakecon/
This is apparently The Year of Doom (make your own topical joke here), and that means QuakeCon 2019 is heavily Doom-flavored. We've already learned all about Doom Eternal's multiplayer battlemode, which which pits one player as the Slayer against two player-controlled demons.
Speaking of demons, here's a new one, which debuted via the above video at QuakeCon. The Doom Hunter is a hybrid of fiend and machine created specifically to hunt the Doom Slayer. So, you know, good luck with that. With its bull horns, missile launcher, glowing blade arm, skullface gun, and apparently a jet-powered butthole, the Doom Hunter is a pretty fearsome monster. But obviously it's going to get ripped to bits in a lovingly detailed takedown animation.

Doom Eternal has a hub where you'll see how Doomguy 'spends his free time'
https://www.pcgamer.com/doom-eternal-will-have-a-hub-where-youll-see-how-doomguy-spends-his-free-time/
At the Doom Eternal panel at QuakeCon today, we got to watch creative director Hugo Martin play part of the game, which was followed by questions from the Slayers Club (the official Doom fan club). A question about the source of Doomguy's incredible strength was asked, which naturally led to a discussion about the Slayer's workout routine and whether or not he spends a lot of time at the gym.

40K first-person shooter Fire Warrior comes to GOG
https://www.pcgamer.com/40k-first-person-shooter-fire-warrior-comes-to-gog/
Fire Warrior was far from the best Warhammer 40,000 game when it came out in 2003, but Kuju's shooter did have a few things going for it. For one, it's a rare 40K game entirely focused on playing a non-human faction, the anime-inspired tau. The first time you face a space marine as an opponent, eight-foot tall and power-armored, is pretty memorable. The other thing in its favor is an intro narrated by Tom Baker—if you've ever wanted to hear one of the better actors to star in Doctor Who saying "It is the 41st millennium, and there is only war" click on that video up there.

Dicey Dungeons, a new game from the creator of Super Hexagon, has a release date
https://www.pcgamer.com/dicey-dungeons-a-new-game-from-the-creator-of-super-hexagon-has-a-release-date/
You may know indie designer Terry Cavanagh for his bastard-hard antigravity platformer VVVVVV, or you may have cursed his name while playing the twitch-reflex avoid-em-up Super Hexagon. Either way, he's a designer worth watching.
His latest game is Dicey Dungeons, in which heroes have been transformed into cute walking dice by Lady Luck, then trapped in her mutating dungeon full of monsters. It plays kind of like a cross between Yahtzee and Tharsis.

Fortnite Season 10 teaser suggests a return to the way things used to be
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnite-season-10-teaser-suggest-a-return-to-the-way-things-used-to-be/
During the Fortnite World Cup viewers were treated to a brief teaser of the forthcoming Season 10, which will begin on August 1. That teaser was an image of Dusty Depot, a location from way back in the beginnings of Fortnite—it was the first Point of Interest on the map to be altered, having a meteor hit it and create Dusty Divot.

Terraform a planet in free, minimalist crafting game Lonely Rover
https://www.pcgamer.com/terraform-a-planet-in-free-minimalist-crafting-game-lonely-rover/
When we finally get around to settling on other planets, we're probably going to want to lean heavily on robots, with humans being annoyingly reliant on things like oxygen, water, and company. As a rover dispatched to an empty world, to make it habitable for people, you don't have to worry about breathing, or keeping hydrated, although the game's title suggests you might be lonely in your mission, which is a bit depressing.
In Lonely rover, a top-down gathering and crafting game, you do have to worry about your energy, which ticks down relentlessly while you roam about on the planet's surface, gathering minerals and metals and gases and whatnot. These elements are resplendent, almost overwhelmingly so, thanks to a regular procession of meteorites, which endanger your very life as you explore. (Humans might want to watch out for those when they eventually rock up.)

Gothic is the only game that ever got everything right. Level system and game design were perfect. KCD very much captures the spirit of Gothic in its design and adds polish that Gothic never had. If only they hadn't fucked up with the leveling. Though it might just be a small thing. As long as they don't do the most retarded thing any RPG could do and level enemies with you.

I still consider Gothic 1&2 (and to some degree 3) to be best single character open-world action-RPGs ever made, though they are about 8.5/10 in my book. They had great topography design, exploration, characters, enemies and story, but I always thought there is lot of space for improvement when it comes to RPG mechanisms.

Hi guys ! I'm looking to get a new desktop, and this forum users' advice have always been invaluable, and my starting point in my search
My whole computer is 5 yo and I'd like to change. Also I'm moving onto a new life, a new job, so new computer !
- I'd like to jump to 4K gaming. I'm not into video editing, just want to play game with all bells and whistles.
- I want a dual 4K output (projector + monitor), those last I've already material solutions.
- Future proofing and reliability have always been my concerns.
- The architecure I've always had now is 1x SSD for windows, 1x SSD for internet datas, and 1x SSD for Steam. (NVMe)
- My budget is in the 2/2.5k€ range (screen excluded)
- I'm looking for advice for PSU/RAM/MOBO/CPU/GPU/Case

Thanks in advance !!!!

Ok, here come my 2 cents:

CPU: I'd go with AMD's latest bunch of processors, either the 8-core 3800X or the 12-core 3900X. I think that 8 cores/16-threads will be enough, but you may want a bit more. I'd choose them because they're not that far off from Intel's current line and have the advantage of PCIe 4.0.

RAM: Now that prices have fallen down to "normal" levels, 16GB should be your main goal, preferably 3200MHz with the lowest latency possible. That said, if you find a good deal on a 32GB kit...

MOBO: That's the trickiest part. Only AMD's X570 boards support PCIe 4.0 so, if you want to be able to it, they're your only choice. I can only tell you to look at reviews of models you like and see what they say about the chipset cooling. Some boards have a heatpipe that connect it to the CPU's VRMs to help with the cooling, as well as having the fan at idle most of the time (and thus making it less prone to failures).

GPU: If you really want to play at 4K and care about future proofing, there's only one option here: the 2080Ti. That's the only card that can offer 60fps at 4K in almost every game without dialing down the details. But of course it's crazy expensive, so you could go for the second best option, the 2080 SUPER.

Case and PSU: Cases are a very subjective affair, so just pick the one you like the most and that has the features you want. As for PSU, even with a 3900X and a 2080Ti, you're looking at just a bit more than 500W, so a 550 or 600W model should be enough.

SOFTWARE & DRIVERS

AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.7.4 available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/amd-radeon-software-adrenalin-2019-edition-19-7-4-available-for-download/
AMD has released a brand new driver for its graphics cards. According to the release notes, the AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.7.4 driver fixes an application crash or hang in Grand Theft Auto 5 on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products.
Unfortunately, that’s the only issue that has been addressed in this new driver. As such, and for those that are not playing GTA 5, there is no reason at all to upgrade your drivers to this latest version.

AMD wants Destiny 2 players to help test a beta chipset driver for third-gen Ryzen
https://www.pcgamer.com/amd-wants-destiny-2-players-to-help-test-a-beta-chipset-driver-for-third-gen-ryzen/
It has taken a few weeks, but AMD is starting to roll out an updated chipset driver that is supposed to address an issue preventing Destiny 2 from running on third-generation Ryzen setups.
The caveat is that this "workaround driver" is a beta release. AMD put out a call to users on Reddit to test it out, noting that seeing an "installer warning or two" is normal if upgrading from an existing driver.

MODS/EMULATORS

Manhunt Remaster is now available on the PC thanks to this overhaul mod
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/manhunt-remaster-is-now-available-on-the-pc-thanks-to-this-overhaul-mod/
Manhunt fans, here is something for you today. Modder ‘Danoman’ has released a new version of his Blood Moon mod for Manhunt. This mod basically aims to provide a remastered version of Manhunt by enhancing all textures (resampled orginals 2x), all effects (like particles blood splatters or bullet holes), modifying the AI (more agressive and can see you from a mile) and changing gunplay (guns have proper names and can shoot far away like in reality – shootouts are real fun now).
Blood Moon Manhunt also changes damage input and output for every firearm or melee weapon (you give as much damage as you recive from foes), changes the main menu a little to better fit whole snuff theme (and “Kill the Rabbit” is now properly named “Pool of Tears”), and makes it possible so that every scene can have its own self made loading picture.

Daggerfall Unity remasters the classic Elder Scrolls
https://www.pcgamer.com/daggerfall-unity-remasters-the-classic-elder-scrolls/
Since 2014, Gavin Clayton has been remaking The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall in Unity, making the incredibly ambitious RPG a bit more palatable—and moddable—for modern sensibilities. It's more of a remaster than something like Skywind or Skyblivion, however, with Clayton preserving the original but with high-resolution textures, mouse-look and, perhaps most importantly, bug fixes. There were a lot of them.
Over the weekend, Clayton announced that Daggerfall Unity's alpha release was imminent (cheers, Reddit), with the last bits of the v0.9 roadmap almost finished. On the roadmap itself, he adds that he's focusing on bug fixes and overall polishing, while mod and translation support will continue to be developed until it hits 1.0.
>> You'll need the original game in order to play it (you can grab it for free from Bethesda, for example).

This Skyrim mod adds an 'immersive' Bethesda.net login requirement
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-skyrim-mod-adds-an-immersive-bethesdanet-login-requirement/
During QuakeCon, the original Doom trilogy was released on consoles and mobile. It was a nice surprise, except for the the additional surprise of an online requirement in strictly singleplayer ports. Players needed to make a Bethesda.net account and log in to play, hopefully avoiding connection errors. Clearly this is a feature other Bethesda games need. One modder agrees and has added it to Skyrim.
The Immersive Bethesda.net Experience will ruin your game by trying—and failing—to connect to Bethesda.net. The exciting moment has been captured in the video above. It will never succeed and after five attempts will kick you back to the main menu.
>> Sounds like fun... If you're bored and want to try it (why would you?!) here are the links for the vanilla and Special Edition versions of the mod.
