Worst case would be they're using this refresh to bridge time to a delayed Ampere.

Isn't that what they're doing anyways since it's not launching until next year ?

The worst case would be that they delayed it even further and had to distract from that news.

Speaking of news, the press conference is apparently over and they said nothing about "super"?

I don't like the fact that all X570 boards will come with a fan. Those small fans have traditionally failed sooner than most desired, plus tend to do a lot of noise.

I'm surprised by the lack of a 16-core part, but they'll probably save it for Threadripper. Also, that both 3700 and 3800 have the same number of cores and only differ in clocks and TDP probably means that overclockers should go with the later.

I like that the entry parts have 6 cores.

I'm also surprised that Navi turns out to be a new architecture (with a lame name), but maybe it's because it's such a big refinement or improvement over other GCN parts that they to differentiate is somehow. In any case, we'll see if the claims they make are real of just PR talk.

Why the fuck would mainboards need fans? That's what the case fans are for.

SALES & DEALS

Apex Legends revenue is down 74% in two months
https://www.pcgamer.com/apex-legends-revenue-is-down-74-in-two-months/
Apex Legends has dropped out of the top 10 highest grossing games on PC for the first time since its launch, according to Nielsen-owned market research firm SuperData.
The game generated $24 million in April, SuperData said in its latest monthly report (thanks, Eurogamer), which marks a 74% drop since February, the shooter's launch month. The stats cover both PC and console.

GOG has a new "weekly" sale with up to 75% discounts: https://www.gog.com/promo/20190527_weekly_sale. The quotation marks are because the sale will last until May 30th. Does it mean that the summer sale is coming?

Steam has two new daily deals:

New DXR Tech Demo shows amazing real-time ray tracing and global illumination effects
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/new-dxr-tech-demo-shows-amazing-real-time-ray-tracing-and-global-illumination-effects/
Opus Visual has released a new video, showcasing its new DXR Tech Demo. This demo was created for the Nvidia DXR Contest and showcases real-time raytracing and global illumination capabilities. Unfortunately, the team did not release this tech demo to the public so we don’t know what it requires in order to run with 60fps at both 1080p and 1440p.
Still, and even though there isn’t any way to download it, this tech demo showcases some of the best real-time ray tracing effects we’ve seen. The lighting, the reflections, the ambient occlusion and the global illumination effects look absolutely phenomenal.

You can now play as Metal Gear Solid Gray Fox and Raiden in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/you-can-now-play-as-metal-gear-solid-gray-fox-and-raiden-in-sekiro-shadows-die-twice/
Modders ‘EmperorFaiz’ and ‘skymoon’ have released two new cool mods for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The first mod allows gamers to play as Gray Fox from Metal Gear Solid, while the second mod allows you to play as Raiden.
Since Sekiro is all about ninja/shinobi and samurai, these 3D model swappers are ideal for this particular title. Moreover, we are certain that a lot of Metal Gear Solid fans will appreciate them (though unfortunately the mods do not come with new voices).
As a bonus, we are also including below another mod for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice that allows you to play as Noob Saibot from Mortal Kombat 11. As we all know, Noob Saibot is a black ninja from NetherRealm’s fighting game (he’s basically the reincarnation of Bi-Han, also known as the first/elder Sub-Zero).
>> Check the article for the links to those mods.

Morrowind: Rebirth overhaul mod just had its biggest update
https://www.pcgamer.com/morrowind-rebirth-overhaul-mod-just-had-its-biggest-update/
Morrowind: Rebirth is a mod that overhauls Bethesda's cult classic open-world RPG to refresh that open world, remapping its settlements as well as adding new equipment, creatures, and music. It's just hit version 5.0 with an update that its creators are calling "by far, the largest one for Rebirth."
Among the additions are five player homes, ranging from Sadrith Mora Fungai Hill (a steal at just 35,000 gold) to Caldera Darkstone Manor (75,000 for that one). There are also new locations like Ald'Ruhn Underground, an ashlander camp called Ahinanapa, and a new level to the Yanith-Duniasha ruins, as well as overhauls to the look of several existing locations. There are new varieties of skeleton, more enchanted items, new textures and models for plants, and more.
It's a big one is what I'm saying. You can check out the complete changelog at ModDB.

Hearthstone's Reckless Experimenter is getting nerfed because of SN1P-SN4P
https://www.pcgamer.com/hearthstones-reckless-experimenter-is-getting-nerfed-because-of-sn1p-sn4p/
Hearthstone's Rise of the Mech event will, among other things, see the addition of an all-new neutral legendary mech named SN1P-SN4P, which I think we've all agreed we're going to call Snip-Snap because that's a just a whole lot simpler. But within minutes of the card being announce, players noticed a problem. Today, community manager Christ Attalus explained on Reddit, that Blizzard had missed the fact that Snip-Snap and the Priest card Reckless Experimenter could be put together in a way that created an early-game infinite damage combo.

This weekend, as reported by Variety, the WHO will make its final decision on whether to classify gaming addiction as a disorder at the 72nd World Health Assembly, which is currently underway.
Update: The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially recognized "Gaming Disorder" as a disease. In response, industry representatives from around the world immediately called on the WHO to rethink its decision, saying it was "not based on sufficiently robust evidence".

Multiplayer deception game Project Winter leaves Early Access, adds new maps and weapons
https://www.pcgamer.com/multiplayer-deception-game-project-winter-leaves-early-access-adds-new-maps-and-weapons/
For six of the eight players in a Project Winter team, the goal is surviving a chilly wilderness long enough to escape. For the other two, the goal is deception: it's about blending into the team and then, when the moment presents itself, betraying your allies, stopping them from escaping. It's a fascinating concept, and this week it finished its three-month Early Access stint with a 1.0 update that added new weapons and maps.

The high TDP may also have something to do with AMD designing the chip instead of ASMedia.

I think they left the 16 core out for several reasons:

1. Not needed yet to counter Intel in some way, and previous gen Threadripper fills that niche nicely right now.

2. Limited volume of the 7nm Production at TSMC limits the amount of chips AMD can receive. Imagine AMD also running headlong into supply constrains just like Intel...

3. The Mainboards. It's probable that the early Mainboards were not totally to the task for more than 8 cores, so they take it slow to give the mainboard partners time to adapt their boards, drivers, and bioses.

Yeah, Navi will get interesting. Hence why I'm eager to see that PC gaming show on E3, as they announced more information on Navi there.

To be precise, the PCI-E4 chip alone consumes over 10W all the time. Hence why active cooling is needed: You can do with passive cooling if it spikes to that amount, but not if it's always sustained.

In other words, unless they get a Die shrink, all boards with a certain amount of PCI-E 4 Lanes needs active cooling of that chip. I could imagine the ones in Threadripper and Epyc actually going for 25-50W TDP with all their lanes.

My biggest problem with the idea that AMD will launch a 16-core Ryzen product in the 3x00 family is that they've already used all the high numbers and, while not improbably (as they did it with Threadripper), it would be a bit stupid to make the flagship model the 3950X.

Had they left the 3900 name empty, I could see the possibility of such monster but, right now, I only see it if Intel somehow has a hidden gem that catches everybody with their guard low. And the 9900KS doesn't fit that role.

As for their GPU, I do also want to see how it performs in the real world. After all, Strange Brigade is a game that we know runs very well on AMD hardware, so that 10% advantage over the 2070 in that particular game doesn't tell us much.
