Considering you don't like Borderlands 2 you have forfeited your humanity and valid opinions anyway.

Also, why would you like software exclusivity less than hardware exclusivity? I'd rather install a million different clients than buy a million plastic DRM boxes that pretend to be legitimate gaming options.

In other news: Steam is down. If only it didn't also have timed exclusivity for 99% of all games, then I could actually play something right now. Isn't a monopoly a great thing?

Just saw Warcraft on GOG, seriously at this rate the whole Blizzard catalogue will be available on GOG. Too bad they'll never release the Diablo 1 expansion, though. Blizzard hated it and considered it a breach of trust from Sierra, mostly due to the inclusion of a barbarian class which breaks canon and which Blizzard specifically forbid to be included.

Who else here played WarCraft 1 before?

I played Warcraft 1 WAY back.  Back when it was the only Warcraft game in existence.  It was good at the time, but when Warcraft 2 came out, it was SO much better and there are some game mechanics and a lack of quality of life features that make this game much harder to play today.

I agree, with one exception: The dungeon-crawling missions in WC1 were awesome imo.

The worst part of it is that you can only select 4 units at once, making offensives a bloody Klickfest. For the rest, it was pretty okay, although not overly balanced (most units have same stats but different graphics for each side, safe for healing being replaced by necromancy, and the Humans have Water elementals instead of Demons. Demons are strong, but lack the Elementals ranged attack, making the final human mission a breeze once you have someone who can summon them, and healing generally beats reviving skeletons (even more so since the latter have a time limit).

Everyone wants competition for Steam but as soon as we get it, they freak out.

But they are doing different than what usually happens on the PC platform - buying exclusivity for third party titles.

Its not like Valve moneyhats devs/publishers to keep their games on Steam. GOG doesnt do it, Origin doesnt do it, Uplay doesnt do it and not even MS does it.

Also yes competition indeed. You're cheering/holding a bias against the wrong groups lol.

You don't see Valve moneyhatting anything because they have a monopoly and anyone who doesn't release on it is fucked unless they have monetary incentives to not do so. That's not healthy either.

I think this separation of 1st party and 3rd party is inane in this day and age. 1st party exclusivity is just as artificial as 3rd party exclusivity. No one is stopping Sony or Nintendo to release their 1st party games on other platforms. Microsoft does it. The only reason they do it is because greed. Because they want to force people onto their stores(sound familiar?) and even worse, their hardware. I don't see how their greed is somehow ok while everyone else's isn't.

If I remember correctly, the two other things that make this game a little tough to play today is also that you need to click the edge of the screen to scroll, and there's no "right click to attack/harvest" feature.

And yeah, I loved those dungeon missions. I was a little disappointed when WC2 didn't have them. Was glad when Starcraft brought them back.

BioWare criticizes report about troubles in Anthem's development
https://www.pcgamer.com/bioware-denies-crunch-was-a-major-topic-among-employees/
A scathing Kotaku report on the development of Anthem has elicited a very quick and dismissive response from BioWare, which said that it stands "wholeheartedly" behind every current and former member of the development team, including studio leadership. The developer chose not to take part in the story because it "felt there was an unfair focus on specific team members and leaders," it said, and it "didn’t want to be part of something that was attempting to bring them down as individuals."

QuakeCon 2019 will celebrate the 'Year of Doom'
https://www.pcgamer.com/quakecon-2019-will-celebrate-the-year-of-doom/
This year's QuakeCon will go heavy on the Doom, the famed FPS that preceded the big bring-your-own-computer show's namesake. The reason is that 2019 is, somewhat loosely, the 25th anniversary of the original Doom—it was released in December 1993—and Bethesda isn't going let the "Year of Doom" go uncelebrated.

Bizarre physics puzzler Human: Fall Flat now has Steam Workshop support
https://www.pcgamer.com/bizarre-physics-puzzler-human-fall-flat-now-has-steam-workshop-support/
Human: Fall Flat, the game about throwing alarmingly physics prone little people around puzzle-oriented maps, now has Steam Workshop support. That means players can now create their own maps, their own skins, their own lobbies, and probably much more besides.

Serious Sam: Tormental lets you invade a demigod's brain
https://www.pcgamer.com/serious-sam-tormental-lets-you-invade-a-demigods-brain/
Serious Sam is temporarily shifting perspectives as it takes a trip into series antagonist Mental's twisted mind. In Serious Sam: Tormental, instead of fighting an alien demigod and his angry minions in the real world, you'll be fighting your way through the place where he comes up with all his ideas for conquest and other nasty things. And it's a twin-stick roguelike, now.

Escaped Chasm is a free game about loneliness from Undertale's artist
https://www.pcgamer.com/escaped-chasm-is-a-free-game-about-loneliness-from-undertales-artist/
Escaped Chasm is a brief but striking RPG-maker game from animator and illustrator Temmie Chang, whose work you might recognise from Undertale. It's a lonely and occasionally unsettling yarn, but if you don't mind feeling a bit uneasy for 20 minutes, you can grab it from Itch.io. It's free, but you can also choose to pay.

Civilization 6 now has cross-platform cloud saving between PC and Switch
https://www.pcgamer.com/civilization-6-now-has-cross-platform-cloud-saving-between-pc-and-switch/
The future is finally here. Our jetpacks only work in the water and our hoverboards are crap, but at least we can now save a game of Civilization 6 on PC and then continue it on the loo, bus or wherever else we don't normally find PCs, all thanks to the Switch and the new cross-platform cloud saves.

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition and HD texture packs are out now
https://www.pcgamer.com/borderlands-game-of-the-year-edition-and-hd-texture-packs-are-out-now/
While you wait for Borderlands 3, which is coming to the Epic Games Store in September, you might fancy returning to the first two games and the moon-based Pre-Sequel. They've all been given a bit of a makeover today in the form of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, a definitive and remastered version of the original, and HD texture packs for Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel.

Borderlands 3 Vault Hunter abilities, volcano guns, and other details revealed
https://www.pcgamer.com/borderlands-3-vault-hunter-abilities-volcano-guns-and-other-details-revealed/
As you may have instinctively guessed after hearing a faint humming sound caused by the entire population of Reddit groaning in unison, Borderlands 3 is releasing on the Epic Store on September 13, and not Steam—at least not until spring 2020. The announcement came with details that have nothing to do with when and where Borderlands 3 will be available, though, and I've collected those here.

Borderlands 3 has a season pass and multiple editions, including a $250 chest
https://www.pcgamer.com/borderlands-3-has-a-season-pass-and-multiple-editions-including-a-dollar250-chest/
Borderlands 3 won't launch on Steam, but everything else about it is typical for a big budget PC game release, which means that of course there are four increasingly pricey editions to chose from.
The standard version will be $60, and just includes the game, though pre-ordering any edition gets you "gold weapon skins" and a "weapon trinket," which is presumably a trinket one puts on a weapon.

Why are you trying to twist the discussion?

I said, it's actually in the post you replied to, that I understand first party exclusives and would also understand that Epic, CD Projekt or Valve released their own games only on their platform. And that's because they have made the game: they own the studio in charge of it, pay the salaries, give it a budged and control everything about it, so it's only understandable that they keep it to themselves to reap all the profits and promote their platform, be a console or a digital store.

But what Epic is doing is buying third party exclusives, and that's what I'm against of.
