Well, as you all know, yesterday the site was down and I could make the news. In an ordinary week, that wouldn't be much of a problem, but we're in the middle of Gamescon, and that means that there are more news than usual. Because of that, today I won't post PCGamer articles (at least not in the "Gaming news" section).
Without further ado, here are the news:

SALES & "SALES"/DEALS

Get Dead by Daylight and BioShock Remastered in the Humble Spooky Horror Bundle
https://www.pcgamer.com/get-dead-by-daylight-and-bioshock-remastered-in-the-humble-spooky-horror-bundle/
Halloween is almost here, right? No? Well, whatever. The Humble Bundlers may have jumped the gun a bit with the Humble Spooky Horror Bundle 2018, but it's still a very solid collection of horror games, especially if you (for some reason) still haven't played BioShock.

>>And on the Humble Store, there are another two more deals:

At GOG, the daily deal is The Mummy Demastered, 25% off: https://www.gog.com/game/the_mummy_demastered

At Steam, we have several deals to talk about

And at Fanatical, there are also several offers to mention:

Also, if you sync your Steam Wishlist with Fanatical's Assistant, you'll get a chance to win $100 on the Fanatical Store. Read more here: https://www.fanatical.com/en/blog/chance-to-win-100-to-spend-on-steam-pc-games-with-fanatical-assistant

SOFTWARE

Resident Evil 2 Remake will support NVIDIA’s RTX technology
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/resident-evil-2-remake-will-support-nvidia-rtx-technology/
Although NVIDIA has not announced whether Resident Evil 2 Remake will be taking advantage of its RTX technogloy, Digital Foundry’s John Linneman revealed that it will actually be using it and that a PC version with RTX was available at Gamescom 2018.
Unfortunately, we don’t know whether Capcom and NVIDIA will be using real-time ray tracing or deep learning super sampling. Fingers crossed that it will be the former as a horror game with real-time ray tracing effects (like global illumination and ambient occlusion) could potentially look great.

MODS/EMULATORS

Monster Hunter: World mod lets you transmog your armor's appearance
https://www.pcgamer.com/monster-hunter-world-mod-lets-you-transmog-your-armors-appearance/
Monster Hunter: World has done the series justice on PC, but it is missing some popular features, chief among them the ability to transmog armor: changing its appearance to another armor set, while keeping its stats. Alas, transmog was added in Monster Hunter XX, which hasn't been announced for PC and probably never will be. Luckily, the PC does have modders—more specifically, modders like FineNerds, who's gone and created an armor transmog mod for World.
As FineNerds explains on Nexus Mods, all you have to do is download the mod, open Monster Hunter: World, open the mod, and "enter the armor you want to switch to." I was skeptical, so I decided to try the mod for myself. And while it's not quite that simple, it does work and it is very easy to use.

~50% is what I predicted on Discord, so this is looking pretty good to me.

Having seen the presentation I'm pretty sure these graphs are with RT enabled. Which means abysmal framerates for the 1080 and 50% better than abysmal for the new card. The new cards have about 20% more CUDA cores and about the same clock. Where do you expect the 50% to come from? I'm expecting 20% on average.

Um no.
It is highly like that these graphs aren't with RT enabled.
Pascal cannot keep pace with Turing in that aspect.
Volta can't keep up with Turing in that kind of a workload.
If it takes four V100s to lag behind a single Turing card, then a single Pascal card won't be close.
https://s22.q4cdn.com/364334381/files/doc_presentations/2018/08/JHH_Gamescom_FINAL_PRESENTED.PDF
Go to page fourteen.
Pascal wishes it could keep up.
When Turing is getting like 30FPS in Tomb Raider, Pascal is getting something in the single digits.
Not even the most hardcore console players would consider that playable.

The new cards have a decent increase to their bandwidth too, so lets not forget about that.
That's going to make a pretty big difference when trying to render at high resolutions and stuff.
So lets not forget that.

Turing seems to be quite the departure from Pascal.
Nvidia has apparently reworked their SMs for Turing, so core for core, Turing should probably come out ahead.
They seemed quite proud to talk about how their GPUs can do 32bit int and floats at the same time now, so hopefully that results in a pretty decent performance boost, when compared to Pascal cards with the same FLOPS.

Whilst I'm not sure if we'll get support for it in the consumer cards, Turing does support something like AMD's Rapid Packed Math (where you do two FP16 operations in the same time it takes to do one FP32); Intel GPUs support this, the Switch supports it, the PS4Pro supports it, and Vega supports it.
Assuming Turing does support it on the consumer side, these GPUs should be able to take advantage of the optimisations already done for the other devices.
Games such as Wolfenstein II and Far Cry V already support it, so maybe those games will see an extra percent or five of performance.

There's other changes too, but Turing seems to be more than Pascal with some RT and Tensor cores strapped to it.

We'll see. But as usual the gains in 4k will be much more substantial than in 1440p.

My comment was a joke, obviously, but given that you've taking it so seriously, can I just point out that even in those Nvidia made benchmarks, not even half of those games see a 50% increase in performance?

Only the Infiltrator demo, Wolfenstein II and Shadow of War are above the 1.5x mark, with FF XV, PUBG, ARK, Hitman 2 and Andromeda being close, but still falling short, to that 1.5x mark.

We'll see how the cards actually perform when benchmarked by independent reviewers.

But now more seriously, I really hope Zen2 and whatever Intel comes with next are finally hardware safe against all these vulnerabilities. It's insane how many security holes those CPUs have!

FP16 is pretty useless on the PC.
Actually, it could be argued that it's pretty useless on console as well, other than the Switch.

Yeah, I've seen your reply to Peh, just like I'm sure you've seen my reply to Caff where I pointed that even in Nvidia's own benchmarks only two games and the Infiltrator demo actually achieved that 50% increase goal.

But we'll have to wait and see. Maybe doubling the L1 bandwidth and also doubling the L2 cache capacity have an impact on the end result as well.
