Monday news, part two:

Telltale is being sued by its former CEO
https://www.pcgamer.com/telltale-is-being-sued-by-its-former-ceo/
Former Telltale Games CEO Kevin Bruner, who left the position in March 2017 but remained on the company's board of directors, has filed a lawsuit against it over claims that it failed to provide him "informational support" as he was preparing to sell his holdings in the company. Instead of meeting its contractual obligations, according to a Marin Independent Journal report, the company instead cut off communications and then voted him off the board.

Ace Combat 7's E3 trailer showcases high-flying combat and awkward wording
https://www.pcgamer.com/ace-combat-7s-e3-trailer-showcases-high-flying-combat-and-awkward-wording/
People in my Twitter feed were joking about the new trailer for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown today, saying it had the funniest opening line ever. I didn't get it. "Do you wonder what it means to be a prisoner here?" is anything but amusing. Then I found out that I was watching the wrong trailer.
The trailer on Bandai's Japanese YouTube channel (and embedded above) is narrated slightly differently: "How penal is this penal unit, you ask? This place is a shithole." The "penal" homonym launched, if not a thousand, then at least two or three snickering dick jokes.

World of Warcraft Classic will be built on the 1.12 'Drums of War' patch
https://www.pcgamer.com/world-of-warcraft-classic-will-be-built-on-the-112-drums-of-war-patch/
"As many of you have noted, the classic period was two years long and full of changes. Core features like Battlegrounds were introduced in patches after WoW’s original launch, and class design similarly changed over time," Blizzard wrote. "After careful consideration, we decided on Patch 1.12: Drums of War as our foundation, because it represents the most complete version of the classic experience."

Shadows: Awakening characters and gameplay revealed in 7-minute video
https://www.pcgamer.com/shadows-awakening-characters-and-gameplay-revealed-in-7-minute-featurette/
Shadows: Awakening was announced last summer as an action-RPG with "real-time tactical combat" and a visual style similar to that of the brilliant Divinity: Original Sin games. It also follows on the 2014 ARPG Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, continuing the story that had been promised (but not delivered) for "Book 2" but also expanding upon it with an all-new storyline, "making Shadows: Awakening not a sequel, but a full and completed experience."

Devil May Cry 5 will be out before April next year
https://www.pcgamer.com/devil-may-cry-5-will-be-out-before-end-of-march-next-year/
Devil May Cry 5, which was unveiled at E3 this week, will be released before April 2019, Capcom has announced.
The E3 trailer, above, gave a "Spring 2019" release date, but Capcom's investor relations arm has since narrowed that window to before the end of March. Spring starts in late March, which suggests it's coming out right at the end of the month.

Arma 3 adding new singleplayer scenario this year, wants third-party paid-for DLC next year
https://www.pcgamer.com/arma-3-adding-new-singleplayer-scenario-this-year-planning-third-party-paid-for-dlc-next-year/
Bohemia Interactive has unveiled its plans for realistic military FPS Arma 3 over the rest of 2018, which include a new singleplayer scenario. The scenario, which will be out towards the end of the year, will be free for owners of the game's Apex expansion, and will "experiment with more open-world gameplay".

Map updates suggest Fortnite's next season might begin with a rocket launch
https://www.pcgamer.com/map-updates-suggest-fortnites-next-season-might-begin-with-a-rocket-launch/
Fortnite's Season Four is coming close to its finish, and clues pointing at the theme for Season Five have already started appearing. First there was a skull logo that began showing up on all the in-game televisions, and which resembled the villain's lair, a new location near Snobby Shores. Inside the villain's lair there's a rocket, and a new holographic display suggests that it's nearing launch.

Klei quietly began the open beta for Hot Lava during E3
https://www.pcgamer.com/klei-quietly-began-the-open-beta-for-hot-lava-during-e3/
Hot Lava is what Klei have been working on alongside Oxygen is Not Included and new DLC for Don't Starve. In the middle of E3 fever during the week, they quietly launched it into open beta on Steam, meaning that you can play it right now.
Apparently the plan is for an Early Access release to follow when Hot Lava's ready for it, but if you want to get in earlier than Early, here's the Steam page.

Deep Rock Galactic update adds new mission type, makes beards more glorious
https://www.pcgamer.com/deep-rock-galactic-update-adds-new-mission-type-makes-beards-more-glorious/
This week's update to Deep Rock Galactic, the co-op mining-themed horde shooter, was a beefy one: it added a new mission type, a new enemy and, most importantly, more beautiful beards.
The new mission type is called Salvage Operation, and involves the clean-up of a failed mining expedition. You and your party has to salvage three robots, escort them to an escape pod, repair the escape pod, and then hold off waves of enemies as it awaits blast-off. You can see it in action in the trailer above.

Watch six minutes of Strange Brigade's co-op shooting, supernatural puzzles and branching levels
https://www.pcgamer.com/watch-six-minutes-of-strange-brigades-co-op-shooting-supernatural-puzzles-and-branching-levels/
In the midst of the E3 maelstrom you might well have missed developer Rebellion's playthrough of Strange Brigade, its supernatural co-op shooter that's due out in late August. But it's worth watching: it's got a decent mix of puzzles and hectic third-person combat alongside branching levels that encourage exploration.

OMDO is what happens when you turn DOOM into a Magic Eye puzzle
https://www.pcgamer.com/omdo-is-what-happens-when-you-turn-doom-into-a-magic-eye-puzzle/
If you've never come across one of the Magic Eye books, then the picture above might just look like a random collection of dots. But if you know how to squint at it just right—and go cross-eyed in the process—then a familiar scene from DOOM will present itself in 3D, with the gun model at the bottom of the image and two pillars in the distance (at least, that's what my unpracticed eyes see).
That's what you get in OMDO, which is identical to DOOM except every frame is a random dot autostereogram (like the one above). Some people prefer going cross-eyed to see them in 3D, while some prefer going wall-eyed—OMDO caters for both by letting you switch between parallel convergence and cross-eyed convergence from the main menu.

PUBG clarify misunderstandings about their use of store-bought assets
https://www.pcgamer.com/pubg-clarify-misunderstandings-about-their-use-of-store-bought-assets/
During an interview with Geoff Keighley at E3, Brendan Greene, aka PlayerUnknown, talked about accusations his game is an 'asset flip' because it uses store-bought props. "That kills me a little inside," he said, "because I know we're not. We work with artists like Karol [Miklas] in Russia who does most of our vehicles, most of our buildings are hand-made by artists, and even foliage and stuff like that. Of course we use some props from marketplaces. We had to make a map within nine months and you don't do that without using the work of other artists but, for the most part, most of our stuff is made by hand. So I see these comments and I'm like, 'I want to kill you!'"

World of Tanks gets a Rocket League-inspired mode to celebrate the World Cup
https://www.pcgamer.com/world-of-tanks-gets-a-rocket-league-inspired-mode-to-celebrate-the-world-cup/
When you think of World of Tanks, you probably think of a very serious tank combat game, full of very serious tanks. But to celebrate the imminent World Cup, the tanks are having a break from being serious. The tanks, for a limited time only, will engage in some frivolous recreational play in the form of Tank Football.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 aims for 'playable beta for the end of next year'
https://www.pcgamer.com/beyond-good-and-evil-2-aims-for-playable-beta-for-the-end-of-next-year/
A year after its unlikely E3 trailer debut, Beyond Good and Evil 2 showcased another full-on cinematic trailer and a sliver of in-game footage at this year's Ubisoft conference. No release date was given on stage, but it appears the developer plans to launch a playable beta of BG&E 2 at the end of 2019.

SALES & "SALES"/DEALS

Quake Champions free-to-play offer extended into next week
https://www.pcgamer.com/quake-champions-free-to-play-offer-extended-into-next-week/
Quake Champions is in kind of a strange place right now. It's been publicly available for almost a year, it boasts cutting-edge gib-splosion technology, and it's good. But it's also still in Early Access on Steam, and so even though it's intended to be a free-to-play game, it is not currently free: If you want to get in, you have to pony up for the $30 Champions Pack. Until June 25, however, you do not.
It's not a free-for-keepsies offer as far as I can tell (the announcement on Steam says Bethesda is "extending free-to-play access until Monday, June 25," which reads to me to mean that access will go away when Monday arrives) but that's not a huge blow since it is, eventually, going to be free anyway.

Now that we're talking about Steam, let's check what else is on sale:

At GOG we have two new deals:

On the Humble Store there is a Hitman Franchise sale, with up to 75% discounts: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/hitman-franchise-sale/

Finally, at Fanatical there are two new deals:

This Steam page lets you check how much money you've spent on video games
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-steam-page-lets-you-check-how-much-money-youve-spent-on-video-games/
Bad news: it's now possible to see how much money you've ever spent on Steam. Spotted by Venture Beat, the official Steam tool adds up every cent you've ever spent on the storefront and displays the total in USD. Similar tools exist, such as Steam Calculator, though that tool only estimates the worth of your account: this one tells you, to the cent, how much you've spent.
The Steam tool also has one other important caveat: it won't include codes you've redeemed. So if you've received a code in a bundle, or purchased one by a third-party, that price won't be included: this strictly adds up the money you've spent on Steam, and you'll probably find that all of those sales – you know, the ones where you buy games cheaply that you never get around to playing – add up.

Dark Souls New Game Plus Infinite mod might be its most gruelling yet
https://www.pcgamer.com/dark-souls-new-game-plus-infinite-mod-might-be-its-most-gruelling-yet/
There are a number of ways to make From Software's notoriously difficult Dark Souls more challenging—however Notaprofi's New Game Plus Infinite mod might be its most torturous yet.
Potentially worse than Bonewheels Everywhere, this project "extends difficulty growth of the New game pluses beyond NG+6," says its creator. "Each play-through the game will be getting harder and harder until you can't beat it. How far can you go?"
Notaprofi notes New Game Plus Infinite is exclusively compatible with Dark Souls' Prepare to Die edition, but should function with other mods installed. Full details can be found on its Nexus Mods page.

Bandai Namco is working on a new 'Tales' game
https://www.pcgamer.com/bandai-namco-is-working-on-a-new-tales-game/
Bandai Namco's "Tales" series began in 1995 with Tales of Phantasia on the Super Famicom, PlayStation, and GBA, among other platforms, and was most recently seen a couple of years ago with Tales of Berseria. It's not finished yet: A PlayStation Lifestyle report says the company revealed at the Tales Of Festival 2018 in Japan that it is working on "the newest 'Tales of' game title for consoles."

Xaviant addresses The Culling 2 gameplay leak and sequel concerns
https://www.pcgamer.com/xaviant-addresses-the-culling-2-gameplay-leak-and-sequel-concerns/
The Culling 2 was announced last week, just a few months after development of the original Culling had ended—which itself happened only a couple of months after the game had been fully released. That rapid-fire stop-and-go struck me as a bit odd, especially since the battle royale genre is more crowded than ever now. (Hello, Fortnite.) But Xaviant said that the timing isn't quite as "off" as it might appear, because the game had been in Early Access for so long.

Epic says it will remove an 'unintended' swastika in Fortnite (Updated)

A group of Fortnite players noticed something odd and unpleasantly surprising in the way four metal floor tiles came together as part of an in-game dance floor they were constructing: Where the four corners joined, a very distinct swastika had formed.
Update: The swastika fix won't be deployed this week because the update is already locked down, but you can expect it to arrive in the next one.

Dead Cells dev plans to add basic mod support before launch

According to HKEPC’s Senior Editor, John Lam, who got an exclusive look at the 2nd Generation Ryzen Threadripper chip, the flagship part will be known as the Ryzen Threadripper 2990X.

The chip will rock 32 cores and 64 threads (...). The chip tested was a B2 stepping with a base clock of 3.4 GHz and a maximum boost clock of 4.0 GHz while the precision boost overdrive clocks are rated at +200 MHz so expect up to 4.20 GHz in single core optimized workloads.

Other details include 16 MB of L2 and 64 MB of L3 cache which rounds up to a total of 80 MB of available cache on a single chip. The TDP of the chip as stated before will be kept at 250W and all current generation TR4 socketed boards will be fully compatible with the 2nd generation Ryzen Threadripper processors.

For the first time, PUBG is on sale on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/for-the-first-time-pubg-is-on-sale-on-steam/
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has been $30 on Steam since its Early Access release in March of 2017. It didn't participate in any seasonal Steam sales, or run special promotions of its own. It never needed to, having sold millions of copies in just over a year, but now for the first time ever, PUBG is 33 percent off on Steam, bringing it to $20 (or £18.08).

>>It will be on sale until July 5th, so you have time to think about it. Meanwhile here are the rest of the Steam deals:

GOG's daily deal is Tetrobot and Co., 80% off: https://www.gog.com/game/tetrobot_and_co

On the Humble Store, there are two new deals:

Finally, at Fanatical there's one new bundle, but a very good one. The Indie Legends 8 bundle includes 10 games like the Broken Sword Trilogy or Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered with a huge discount. The bundle will last 14 days: https://www.fanatical.com/en/bundle/indie-legends-8-bundle

Steam now has developer and publisher 'Homepages'
https://www.pcgamer.com/steam-now-has-developer-and-publisher-homepages/
Steam's move into the modern age has taken another step forward with the launch, in beta, of Publisher and Developer Homepages. The new pages give Steam users the ability to follow individual developers and publishers, and to be automatically notified when they release new games, while studios can far more easily and effectively show off their wares.
Under the old system, developer and publisher pages were simply ugly lists of games, prices, and a very general indication of Steam user ratings. The new homepages provide a much more attractive and flexible layout with more detailed information about each game offered, slots for top sellers, new and upcoming releases, and games on sale, and an 'about' page.

Popular antivirus software may corrupt Dark Souls Remastered save files
https://www.pcgamer.com/popular-antivirus-software-may-corrupt-dark-souls-remastered-save-files/
As detailed throughout the Dark Souls subreddit, Dark Souls remastered players using both BitDefender and Windows Defender have reported corrupted save files, indefinite load times and instances where cloud sync services—Google Drive, for example—interprets save files as "in use" and therefore makes them inaccessible. It seems the problem has been kicked up to publisher Bandai Namco. Under the headline "Warning: BitDefender and Windows Defender may treat DS:R saves as corrupted files", here's Dark Souls community manager Izmar.

A coder spent 1,200 hours reverse-engineering Diablo's source code
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-coder-spent-1200-hours-reverse-engineering-diablos-source-code/
A coder who goes by the name of GalaxyHaxz has uploaded a reverse-engineered version of the original Diablo source code. According to this GitHub post, it took them over 1,200 hours over the course of "6-12 months", in bid to ensure "that everything is preserved."
Devilution, as the project is known, doesn't contain any of the original game's assets so don't expect a free copy of the classic action slasher. Do however expect an accessible project that aims to make things "much easier" to support and maintain into the future.

Mod brings Cyberdog Rex from New Vegas to Fallout 4
https://www.pcgamer.com/mod-brings-cyberdog-rex-from-new-vegas-to-fallout-4/
You probably remember Cyberdog Rex from Fallout: New Vegas. Rex was a former police dog who was cybernetically enhanced, and while many of his parts were replaced with robotics he remained 100% A Very Good Boy. A quest in New Vegas involved finding Rex a replacement brain, as his organic one had begun to deteriorate.
While Fallout fans also love Dogmeat, it's nice to see Rex again, and you can bring him to Fallout 4 with the Project Cyberdog Rex Dogmeat Replacer mod created by Shadowliger. This is a replacer mod and is a visual change only, though the modder is apparently working on a larger Cyberdog mod.

The third expansion for Ark: Survival Evolved, titled Extinction, is arriving on November 6. As hinted at the end of Ark's previous expansion, Aberration, this time players find themselves on planet Earth, though it's a nearly unrecognizable one filled with both dinosaurs and futuristic technology. In the teaser above released today, you can get a few glimpses of a city that appears both advanced and ancient, with towering monolithic structures overgrown by nature. You can also see some teleporting robotic dinos, a player-piloted drone, and at the end, the appearance of a massive creature called a Titan.

Rocket League's premium Rocket Pass cosmetic reward system will cost $10
https://www.pcgamer.com/rocket-leagues-premium-rocket-pass-cosmetic-reward-system-will-cost-dollar10/
The Rocket Pass will be split into free and premium modes, with the latter offering many more cosmetics at each tier. During a meeting at E3 last week, game director Scott Rudi revealed that this premium pass would cost $10.
No matter which Rocket Pass you use you'll be able to level it up to around tier 70, unlocking new cosmetics and occasionally decryptors at each tier. Premium owners will get a whole lot more, though, including new car bodies and loot box keys (which are better than decryptors as you can trade what you open). Once you reach the max level, however, premium Rocket Pass owners are able to unlock endless 'pro tiers' and continue earning randomized Painted and Certified variants of those same cosmetics, which will be a nice carrot on a stick for those hardcore players—especially because you won't get duplicates until after you've completed the full set. It's a nice alternative to loot boxes, which a lot of people have been too fond of for a while now for obvious reasons.

We've picked out some highlights, and you can view the whole pamphlet down below.

"As you know, one of our highest priorities is working towards eliminating hackers and cheaters from PUBG," explains the dev in this Steam Community update.
