Monday news, part two:
Telltale is being sued by its former CEO
https://www.pcgamer.com/telltale-is-being-sued-by-its-former-ceo/
Former Telltale Games CEO Kevin Bruner, who left the position in March 2017 but remained on the company's board of directors, has filed a lawsuit against it over claims that it failed to provide him "informational support" as he was preparing to sell his holdings in the company. Instead of meeting its contractual obligations, according to a Marin Independent Journal report, the company instead cut off communications and then voted him off the board.
Ace Combat 7's E3 trailer showcases high-flying combat and awkward wording
https://www.pcgamer.com/ace-combat-7s-e3-trailer-showcases-high-flying-combat-and-awkward-wording/
People in my Twitter feed were joking about the new trailer for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown today, saying it had the funniest opening line ever. I didn't get it. "Do you wonder what it means to be a prisoner here?" is anything but amusing. Then I found out that I was watching the wrong trailer.
The trailer on Bandai's Japanese YouTube channel (and embedded above) is narrated slightly differently: "How penal is this penal unit, you ask? This place is a shithole." The "penal" homonym launched, if not a thousand, then at least two or three snickering dick jokes.
World of Warcraft Classic will be built on the 1.12 'Drums of War' patch
https://www.pcgamer.com/world-of-warcraft-classic-will-be-built-on-the-112-drums-of-war-patch/
"As many of you have noted, the classic period was two years long and full of changes. Core features like Battlegrounds were introduced in patches after WoW’s original launch, and class design similarly changed over time," Blizzard wrote. "After careful consideration, we decided on Patch 1.12: Drums of War as our foundation, because it represents the most complete version of the classic experience."
Shadows: Awakening characters and gameplay revealed in 7-minute video
https://www.pcgamer.com/shadows-awakening-characters-and-gameplay-revealed-in-7-minute-featurette/
Shadows: Awakening was announced last summer as an action-RPG with "real-time tactical combat" and a visual style similar to that of the brilliant Divinity: Original Sin games. It also follows on the 2014 ARPG Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, continuing the story that had been promised (but not delivered) for "Book 2" but also expanding upon it with an all-new storyline, "making Shadows: Awakening not a sequel, but a full and completed experience."
Devil May Cry 5 will be out before April next year
https://www.pcgamer.com/devil-may-cry-5-will-be-out-before-end-of-march-next-year/
Devil May Cry 5, which was unveiled at E3 this week, will be released before April 2019, Capcom has announced.
The E3 trailer, above, gave a "Spring 2019" release date, but Capcom's investor relations arm has since narrowed that window to before the end of March. Spring starts in late March, which suggests it's coming out right at the end of the month.
Arma 3 adding new singleplayer scenario this year, wants third-party paid-for DLC next year
https://www.pcgamer.com/arma-3-adding-new-singleplayer-scenario-this-year-planning-third-party-paid-for-dlc-next-year/
Bohemia Interactive has unveiled its plans for realistic military FPS Arma 3 over the rest of 2018, which include a new singleplayer scenario. The scenario, which will be out towards the end of the year, will be free for owners of the game's Apex expansion, and will "experiment with more open-world gameplay".
Map updates suggest Fortnite's next season might begin with a rocket launch
https://www.pcgamer.com/map-updates-suggest-fortnites-next-season-might-begin-with-a-rocket-launch/
Fortnite's Season Four is coming close to its finish, and clues pointing at the theme for Season Five have already started appearing. First there was a skull logo that began showing up on all the in-game televisions, and which resembled the villain's lair, a new location near Snobby Shores. Inside the villain's lair there's a rocket, and a new holographic display suggests that it's nearing launch.
Fortnite is getting a stink bomb

Fortnite's arsenal of grenades is set to expand with the addition of a stink bomb that unleashes a cloud of gas that slowly damages anybody inside.
The item began popping up on the game's update feed earlier today, and is listed as "coming soon". The image above was posted on Reddit by user 1Kick234.
Klei quietly began the open beta for Hot Lava during E3
https://www.pcgamer.com/klei-quietly-began-the-open-beta-for-hot-lava-during-e3/
Hot Lava is what Klei have been working on alongside Oxygen is Not Included and new DLC for Don't Starve. In the middle of E3 fever during the week, they quietly launched it into open beta on Steam, meaning that you can play it right now.
Apparently the plan is for an Early Access release to follow when Hot Lava's ready for it, but if you want to get in earlier than Early, here's the Steam page.
Deep Rock Galactic update adds new mission type, makes beards more glorious
https://www.pcgamer.com/deep-rock-galactic-update-adds-new-mission-type-makes-beards-more-glorious/
This week's update to Deep Rock Galactic, the co-op mining-themed horde shooter, was a beefy one: it added a new mission type, a new enemy and, most importantly, more beautiful beards.
The new mission type is called Salvage Operation, and involves the clean-up of a failed mining expedition. You and your party has to salvage three robots, escort them to an escape pod, repair the escape pod, and then hold off waves of enemies as it awaits blast-off. You can see it in action in the trailer above.
Watch six minutes of Strange Brigade's co-op shooting, supernatural puzzles and branching levels
https://www.pcgamer.com/watch-six-minutes-of-strange-brigades-co-op-shooting-supernatural-puzzles-and-branching-levels/
In the midst of the E3 maelstrom you might well have missed developer Rebellion's playthrough of Strange Brigade, its supernatural co-op shooter that's due out in late August. But it's worth watching: it's got a decent mix of puzzles and hectic third-person combat alongside branching levels that encourage exploration.
OMDO is what happens when you turn DOOM into a Magic Eye puzzle
https://www.pcgamer.com/omdo-is-what-happens-when-you-turn-doom-into-a-magic-eye-puzzle/
If you've never come across one of the Magic Eye books, then the picture above might just look like a random collection of dots. But if you know how to squint at it just right—and go cross-eyed in the process—then a familiar scene from DOOM will present itself in 3D, with the gun model at the bottom of the image and two pillars in the distance (at least, that's what my unpracticed eyes see).
That's what you get in OMDO, which is identical to DOOM except every frame is a random dot autostereogram (like the one above). Some people prefer going cross-eyed to see them in 3D, while some prefer going wall-eyed—OMDO caters for both by letting you switch between parallel convergence and cross-eyed convergence from the main menu.
PUBG clarify misunderstandings about their use of store-bought assets
https://www.pcgamer.com/pubg-clarify-misunderstandings-about-their-use-of-store-bought-assets/
During an interview with Geoff Keighley at E3, Brendan Greene, aka PlayerUnknown, talked about accusations his game is an 'asset flip' because it uses store-bought props. "That kills me a little inside," he said, "because I know we're not. We work with artists like Karol [Miklas] in Russia who does most of our vehicles, most of our buildings are hand-made by artists, and even foliage and stuff like that. Of course we use some props from marketplaces. We had to make a map within nine months and you don't do that without using the work of other artists but, for the most part, most of our stuff is made by hand. So I see these comments and I'm like, 'I want to kill you!'"
World of Tanks gets a Rocket League-inspired mode to celebrate the World Cup
https://www.pcgamer.com/world-of-tanks-gets-a-rocket-league-inspired-mode-to-celebrate-the-world-cup/
When you think of World of Tanks, you probably think of a very serious tank combat game, full of very serious tanks. But to celebrate the imminent World Cup, the tanks are having a break from being serious. The tanks, for a limited time only, will engage in some frivolous recreational play in the form of Tank Football.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 aims for 'playable beta for the end of next year'
https://www.pcgamer.com/beyond-good-and-evil-2-aims-for-playable-beta-for-the-end-of-next-year/
A year after its unlikely E3 trailer debut, Beyond Good and Evil 2 showcased another full-on cinematic trailer and a sliver of in-game footage at this year's Ubisoft conference. No release date was given on stage, but it appears the developer plans to launch a playable beta of BG&E 2 at the end of 2019.
