Well, it depends where you're coming from. Many people already own a PC, so they won't have to buy the entire rig from scratch. It may be a matter of upgrading a few key components.

I really cannot justify paying $500 for something that my 2 year old PC already does. But to each their own, I suppose.

Yeap... I don't know about the Ivy Bridge and Piledriver... the gap grow up?

For general purpose, I prefer 8350, but for gaming, I prefer the 3570K overall, they are both around the same price range with i5 being faster overall for gaming. Once we get into the 3770 category though, the 8350 can't compete with the 3770, especially after OC, but there is a price difference. Now lets move into Haswell-E territory, which is another performance increase over the Ivy Bridge clock by clock, and now runs on 8 cores with 16 threads..... It's going to kick the shit out of Steamroller, but more expensive for sure.

Sounds about right.. Got the HP Pavillion H9. Specs are:

- AMD Radeon 7670
- 8 GB DDR3
- 3.1 GHz FX-Series Eight-Core FX-8120
- 2 TB HDD

Not really a tech guy, but I believe those specs are comparable to the Xbox 1 at least.
Cost me $750.

The wrong assumption that this makes is that you're a person who has never owned a pc before and currently does not own one. I already have a pc to do work on and I also use it for gaming. Ram is super cheap so i have 22 gigs and i have a decent quad quore cpu which rivals/beats next gen consoles cpus. This is all stuff I'd want even if I never played a game on this rig. The only expense for me and many others whom have interest in PC gaming is the cost of a newer better gpu. The one I have right now and purchased for 300 bucks a year ago already beats Xbone and is similar to the PS4.  Your average pc gamer doesn't think about the cost of building a machine from scratch. Right now I would calculate that i can still get $175 for my old graphics card so the choice is either 500 dollars or 400 dollars for a next gen machine or a 575 to 675 dollar gpu. If power is every thing PC would blow these consoles out of the water.  You don't go with a next gen console because of price per spec you do it because you enjoy the console experience better than the PC experience. BTW.. I have pre-ordered a PS4 and greatly anticipate it but by no means do i think that my decisions is based on math it's based on the emotional things that consoles do better.  They are simple, they have one dedicated store and friends list unlike the increasing frangmented pc stores. Every game has trophies.. ect ect. I just think it's childish to try and justify consoles a logical left brained decisions based on price per spec.

My PC already exceeds those speccs and there is not only added value to consoles, you can do so much more with a PC than just only gaming. I mean, stuff like twitch streaming, cross game chat and facebook integration are actual bullet points for consoles, but as a PC gamer, bitch please.

When it will be the time an 8-core AMD APU will be enough for my needs, it will be a huge leap from my current 2009 mid-low end HW, and it will let me build another cheap, low power consumption PC, but this time with performances comparable to an 8th gen console (obviously It will need a little higher clock and at least 2GB more RAM than a 8th gen console to reach the same performances, due to the heavyweight OS compared to consoles' lightweight ones). Not being a graphics whore it will be more than enough for me.

I actually love reading threads like these, but It's not so clear cut. To really match the X1 or PS4, you must ahve a more powerful system. These consoles are going to get stronger each year, while the PC will have new hardware to match. I would wait for later this year to purchase a PC.

Your CPU poops all over the consoles, but in the PC world is nothing startling.
The Irony is though, if you built it yourself, you could overclock that 8120 to 4-4.2ghz on stock volts, that's an extra 30% CPU clockspeed for free. :)
You can push them harder though, my other system has the FX 8120 in it and it has sat at 4.8ghz for the last year or so, which in turn replaced a Phenom 2 x6 1090T that always sat at 4ghz.

Plus, the Radeon 7670 is based on the Radeon 6570/6670 GPU, which itself is VLIW5 which was an evolutionary step from the Radeon 5000 series.
Upgrade that to something decent then you would be cooking with gas.

The FX series though, especially the 8 threaded chips are great budget chips and great for "Dirty Machines" where people might have over 9000 programs/services start up with the PC, not to mention they overclock like champs.

Don't remind me! Skipping Ivy Bridge-E for it and going straight for an 8 Core Haswell-E, 6 cores ain't enough. :P

Hopefully Asus does another Sabertooth motherboard so I don't have to ditch my entire builds theme, Ivy Bridge-E though, does not have me excited at all.
