Forums - Nintendo - WiiU will sell better than Gamecube.

think if every Wii U game had launched on time then they would be a lot better off. I think the switch to HD development means everything ended up being delayed around 3 - 6 months, but simply having these games but later doesn't fix the problem, as they have lost a lot of momentum and could be overlooked. A big slump in sales like this results in significantly reduced retail space, which again keeps down sales. And retailers aren't likely to be prioritising Wii Us over the holidays either, what with having to deal with 2 console launches. Wii U awareness could well be at an all time low, and all because of late games causing a big slump.

I personally think that the best shot they have is hoping for a PS4 & XB1 slump early next year like you said, and push a relaunch with Kart and Smash. Then again, I'm not sure how likely that slump is given the stronger third party support and apparently easier development for those consoles.

Ok I see what u mean, the huge drought/lack of sales has taken consumer/retailer trust away. ill give a little breakdown of how I see sales goin for the rest of the year.

By the end of July there should be roughly 3.3 million Wii U sold. From Aug-Oct there will be a high profile exclusive releasing every 2-3 weeks along with a new marketing campaign. That will give retailers/consumers 3 months of steady flow of games which include Pikmin 3/Luigi U retail/W101/Wind Waker/Party U/possibly Sonic World. I could see sales being 70-100k per week in those 3 months. So by the end of Oct there could be about 4.5 million Wii U sold.

During the holidays DKC/Wii Fit/3D Mario combo should be able to push a few systems along with retailer discounts/bundles. 3 million over the holidays doesnt seem too unrealistic, so 7-8 million by the end of the year.

Next year i think we will see a price cut to $250 alongside Mario Kart in the Spring then Smash Bros in the summer and Wii Sports+Zelda for the holidays so id say 10m Wii U sold in 2014 is possible. That puts Wii U at 17-18 million by the end of 2014 and only a few million behind GC sales.

Edit: As for PS4/One slumps, I dont see them being nearly as bad as Wii U post launch slump but literally every console released in the past 15 years has had a post launch slump outside of PS2 and Wii. DC launched strong then quickly faded into obscurity, GC/XB both launched strong then sales dropped pretty sharply in the beginming of 2002. GBA/DS didnt hit it big until there first redesigns. PS360 sales werent amazing in there first full year. 3DS, Vita, Wii U all had horrible post launch sales.

PS4/One will sell well initially this holiday from early adopters but the masses wont flock to them next year due to a majority of 3rd party games being availabe on PS360, so many gamers wont feel the need to upgrade right away and $400-500 is alot for moat people to apend outsise of the holidays. When u factor in 1 year of online, a game, extra controller, ur looking at closer to $600-700. Thats why I think those consoles sales wont be huge in the beginning of next year.

I would normally agree with you, but the market that buys Nintendo consoles doesn't buy them at 350$. It's the historical trend so far, no matter how much more affordable they are than the competing products.

the market for ps and xbox work the same since it wasn't until the ps360 got bellow the $300 mark that they started to sell well.

It wasn't true for the PSOne and PS2 though.

Those consoles started out at $300 so yes it is true for them

Obviously Wii U will outsell Gamecube.

Haven't you ever learned about inflation? That's what the 452$ and 400$ numbers are there for.

I dont mean to be rude, but nobody gives q fuck about inflation. For 99% of the world $300 is $300. Nobodu who is shopping looks at a product and says, "$300, thats a good deal because 10 yeats ago it would be much more expensive."

You must be too young to remember. In our day the PS was very expensive. As a canadian it was even worse, it was priced at 500$. The N64 was like 350$. The numbers are there to support this. Relatively speaking, the PS was very successful even at a steeper price. That's my point.

I was just going by US price, buy honestly do u know anybofy that takes inflation into account when making a purchase? The PS1 and PS2 both launched at $299 here, idc what they cost in 2012 dollars because its irrelevent.
