Forums - Gaming - Xbox vs GC .. Which had best looking games? Would love an outside perspective

GC or Xbox had best graphics?

Xbox 123 40.46%

GC 120 39.47%

About the same imo 34 11.18%

Meh ..... PC 15 4.93%

I couldn't tell really 11 3.62%

Total:303

I just had a conversation with some friends, and they're divided on which one had superior graphics. I owned all systems last gen, but I only had a few games on the Xbox - Ninja Gaiden, NG Black, all Halos, Blinx, and about 5 others. On the other hand, I had a plethora of NGC titles. To me, they were nothing short of amazing and I often thought the GC had the best graphics because of those games. Some of those games include RE0, RE1, RE4, Star Fox Adventures and a few other noteworthy titles. With that said, since I only saw a small number of XB games I don't think I would be an objective judge.

What do you guys think? Despite what was on paper, which system had the games with the best visuals? Or in another way, which had the best looking exclusives? We already know the PS2 is out of this race. But if people want to argue this, then by all mean ... go ahead.

I've heard this discussion many times and I've actually done a bit of research on it.  From a tech perspective, one of our members here, Zarx, who really knows his sh!t when it comes to things like this, sums it up best in a post from a thread from about a year ago:

Bottom line:  They're both very evenly matched on a technical level.  Even though the Xbox looks stronger on paper, the Cube was such a well designed console for its time and had very comparable (and in some ways even better) real world performance.

I'll say that personally I think the Cube's best looking games (the Primes, the Rogue Squadrons, RE4) edge out the Xbox's best efforts overall, IMHO.

GameCube

I think they both had some real gems but I think because neither was the market share leader we never got to see their full capabilities. Before REmake no one thought the GC could push graphics like that. The same could be said about the Xbox and Ninja Gaiden/Black.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I say just like the PS3 VS the XB360 they are so similar that it doesn't really make a difference.

They are equal in my mind.

You think? The lighting in Luigi's Mansion was blowing all the journalists away when the Gamecube released. Rogue Squadron II was also a real looker at launch.

Not so familiar with the Xbox one first Xbox's library, but the Gamecube definitely had some of the best looking games of that era.

Xbox - Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay being probably visually most stunning.

Gamecube had great graphics, but Xbox had overall better looking games.

The fact that the Resident Evil games on the GameCube could compete with some 7th gen titles speaks volumes. I was always under the impression that the Xbox had the power to top it, I just don't recall anything beating the Cube's best efforts.

Doom 3, Wrestlemania 21, Chronicles of Riddick and many more easily beat anything Gamecube put out graphically.
