Emulators aren't illegal, but what they allow you to do is. Ouya is desperate for some attention. I think this one will backfire though.

Technically ROMs aren't illegal either, and neither, really, is having them. Redistributing (if you're not locked into "Leech Only" on your torrent client) is illegal, as well as circumventing copyright protection (which is necessary for pretty much any console ever) is where the law hits you.

No-ones going to buy an OUYA to emulate nes/snes/N64 roms. Seriously if your a pirate and looking to play these games you could play them on your computer for free, even hook it up to the TV, theres no benefit of buying an ouya just to play retro games.

Maybe you just like the challenge to get side-loaded apps to work on the OUYA?

Given that its a Tegra 3, you could do up to a PS1/N64 quite easily.

Dumb move. They've pretty much set themselves as a very easy target for lawsuits. It's one thing to have the capability for piracy on a console it is quite another to publicly endorse it. Publicly endorsing it is the same as a guilty plea.

Intriguing. $100 is not a bad price to play my old NES/SNES/N64 games. And I would assume SMS/Genesis as well. Maybe even 3DO, assuming anyone ever bothered to emulate it.
