The next big thing for gaming is better games.

For starters, I applaud Nintendo for trying something new every generation, when the Wii U is about $200 - $250 I will purchase one, but most likely itll be to play X and smash bros. But anyways, what do you guys think will be the next "big" thing in gaming?

Xbox Live and Motion Gaming were the big things of gaming last generation, however with motion gaming on the decline and PSN matching XBL with its features next gen, what do you guys think will be the next thing that'll provoke non-gamers and gamers to go out and buy a console?

I think it's going to be virtual reality headsets, or something similiar to the PSEYE. I remember before the PS4 was released there were rumors of it having something like an Omni-viewer headset with it, the idea was cool as fuck and I was generally excited. I figured it could be plausible if they went with weak hardware an a decent VR headset for around $500. Seeing as the oculus rift can afford to sell their 720P headsets at $300 and make a profit, I figured Sony could buy the parts in bulk for cheaper and make an equally good headset with the manufacturing cost at like $150 and go with like, 4GB DDR3, 7770 GPU, and a decent CPU, however Sony played it safe and I'm somewhat dissapointed, here's to hoping that Oculus Rift makes it to the PS4!

I'm very excite to see what the PSEYE will be able to do, judging from the tech demo "Playroom" a creative dev can do some pretty fucking cool shit with it.

I wan't the Wii U to succeed for one reason. Nintendo shows the courage to try something new after seeing success, like they could've made Wii U a super Wii with greater motion controls and center the console around it, with its weak hardware the Wii U's motion precision would be crazy. However Nintendo decided to try something new with the Wii U's controller....unfortunately it isn't working out too well for them, and I'm scared that they'll play it safe next en if the Wii U fails. =/ I would love to see what Nintendo's next console revolves around if the Wii U succeeds.

To much surprise back in 2007 I couldn't afford a PS3, so my parents bought me a Xbox 360 as well. It came with a year of Xbox Magazine or something like that, and I used to fucking love that magazine and I renewed my membership for like three years, and when Kinect was featured in the mag for the first time I was so fucking excited. The idea souned godly on paper, and some of the things they said you'd be able to do sounded truly revolutionary, and then it actually came out and was way better on paper than it was in real life. Hopefully Kinect 2 will be used in a cool, non-casual way like it was used for Kinect Sports and whatnot, and the voice commands are somewhat cool, just not really doing it for me however.

So yeah, what do you guys think will be the next big thing in gaming? I think it's going to be VR headsets.

I said they were on the decline far as popularity wise, the entire Wii situation where the console sold a shit ton of units based on motion gaming alone, I never said I wasn't interested in motion gaming. All I said was that I'm interested to see what Devs do with Kinect 2 and PS Eye, which I believe can potentially make motion gaming + even bigger than the Wii's motion gaming, which was a BIG THING LAST generation.

I hope it's not cloud gaming (OnLive style) as any kind of lag will kill Occulus rift. I rather have a vr headset instead of the 'convenience' of cloud streaming.

Social gaming

I believe this too.

When the upcoming generation is summarized it will be described as the revolution of social gaming. Game-sharing, Facebook-connectivity, co-op, multiplayer, massively populated worlds in the cloud 24-7. Those are the signs we're able to read already and after the first wave of next gen titles these features of games will be strengthened and the trend become very clear.

Personally I think social gaming is unnecessary but I can't deny the fact that it attracts the masses. Humans are a social species. Millions of people like to follow gaming entertainers on YouTube and share every little thing they do with their friends. The new console controllers are designed to include a dedicated share button. People love attention from other people and it's important to be acknowledged socially.

The next big thing definitely won't be virtual reality or some other tech-heavy or nerd-friendly invention. Those things are at least a decade away.
