Will the ps4 surpass this?

Are you talking about US or WW? US I guess...
If Sony put enough PS4 at launch then it is possible... PS2 suffered by supply issues at launch..
Yes. The price is right and there has never been more people on the planet than there are now.

ps2 was 500k WW first week. I only mentioned ps4 preorders US because those are numbers released by vgc at the moment.

Hmmm, no. The DS and PS2 were in my mind anomalies, I don't see any console repeating that. Not to mention they were launched at a time when the economy was far better, Apple was not in the mobile gaming space as yet (considering casuals saw $299 as attractive back then), and the Xbox was not even a brand at the time.
I would be surprised if it did. Also the wii could not do it, so no.
Yes, because of the expected lack of supply constraint and because of a worldwide launch.
However follow-up sales will not ramp up like the current record-holders.
remember -- ps4 shipments for 2013 are 16M. sony's load is going to blow everyone out of the water..
seems like they have a lot of supply which makes it very possible, i believe wii had a lot more possible sales as consoles at launch and this console could have had a huge first week without those problems.
