Nintendo needs to hire a lot more developers so they can increase their workload and get games out faster.

This is very true. Nintendo's rampant delays of late prove its current workforce is simply insufficient to deliver an adequate flow of HD-level games.

What they should have done is expand massively during the golden years of the Wii and DS, when they had boundless license to print money, in order to prepare for the transition to HD. They should have observed the problems other studios has coping with the increased development complexity, and taken steps to ease the transition.

They need to hire more people with experience in HD development, and set up new studios.

They shouldn't rush games but speeding up the development time through greater efficiency would be welcome.

Also, they should have used all those tens of millions they made off Wii/DS to buy some cheap development studios over the last few years when they've been closing down left and right. I get Nintendo doesn't want to dilute their gaming philosophy with average studios or western thinking but come-on Factor 5? Free Radical Design? There's been a lot of top quality studios (some they've worked with) that have closed that they could've bought cheap and had a lot more titles (and greater variety) coming out.

Do everything that you can Nintendo, just not at the cost of quality and fun factor...

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Judging from Mr. Aonuma recent comments, its pretty clear that he does not want to be part of Nintendo anymore. His stance on many things, from his desire to work on other projects besides zelda with his "10 years left", him wanting to make zelda more like Elder Scrolls, and now this, everything is opposite from what Nintendo proper is saying.

Bingo. Nintendo make great games, but they often do so very inefficiently.

Miyamoto is set to retire at some point (by his own admission) and maybe Aonuma is purposely positioning himself as a replacer with some new ideas.

Just a thought.

It's not that they need to make games more quickly. He's wrong.

It's that they need to have more projects, more employees. Rushing development will reduce quality. Increasing employee count and project count will result in more games, and thus more sales.

This would increase the number of new IPs, enhance the chance of retro revivals and games in dormant franchises, and reduce Nintendo's need to go to third parties with their IPs (making it more likely that deals with third parties are for crossovers and third-party exclusives, rather than third parties developing first-party games).

Pretty much this. If they got enough project they can time them to come out at a steady pace and still take 3 years to develope.

All they need is more studios, with more projects. That way it doesn't matter if it takes 4 years to make Zelda, because we have so many other games coming to realise.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Nintendo should:

  • Not rush games, but should make quicker decisions. Taking forever to make Skyward Sword because of motion controls, Pikmin 3 because they weren't sure which system they wanted it on, and so on is pretty dumb...
  • Either buy more teams or hire more people for their current teams.

Yep. It looks more likely with every interview that we'll see Zelda U this year or early next year. My fear now is that they rushed the game. Wind Waker 2, as rushed as the first, staying true to the original feel.
