Most likely a smart play by Microsoft. Pull your pre orders from the biggest used game store in America, announce all your policues change, and then make them available agin. Kind of like a restart.

There was no stoppage any place else other than inside of Game Stop stores.

What happened when Sony pulled Other OS? Nothing.

This is not removal of a feature feature 99% of PS3 owners didn't even know exist, this is effectively taking away the console's primary function for anyone without the ability or a preference to stay online, this will not only effect a far larger segment of the market but will cause massive backlash from many consumers on principal alone, not to mention attract lawyers like blood in the water attract hungry sharks.

This will not happen this gen on a system level again, Microsoft has played their hands and lost.

Do you know what was denoted by the asterisk with the supply limited statement? To me that usually means there's clarification somewhere in small print.

Now Gamestop started to preorder again.... interesting timing.

Corporations bought 2000 ps3 (at loss for sony) to make supercomputers. That had to stop one way or another, even if that was cool. Plus most gamers didn't even know about this, and most of these who knew didn't care.
