I can see it happening. They didnt say kinect is still required, now that internet is not required i dont see why kinect would. Way to go sony fanboys for ruining gaming for some of us that were okay with this DRM stuff. Family sharing with 10 people is gone now, thanks for taking us back to the stone age...

It's exactly like the 360 is now in terms of game installs. You don't have to install it if you don't want to.

I guess it doesn't matter too much to me now that I think about it though since I'll be buying most of my games digitally (the only games I'll buy physical are the one's that go on extreme sale on Black Friday and other such events).

Source?

You need to install the game... PS4 too.

I dont think PS4 has mandatory installs. If they did, what would be the point in having a blu ray player that is 3x the speed of the ps3 blu ray player

No you dont, you have to play the game from the disc now. It's listed on their facebook page. Install is an option.

What I read is that it needs to de disc stay on track but it will install game like before... PS4 works in the same way.

BD drivers is so slow compared to HDD.

For fastest installs.

1. Put your PS4 disc at PS4
2. PS4 init the install
3. In some segunds you alreay can play the game (the install continure in background)
4. The install finish in background while you are playing

Read speeds from HDD is so much better than BD drivers... the 1080 games needs that... the read from disc to RAM needs to be really fast.

Because Nintendo always profits Microsoft profited off of the 360 and the original Playstation, PS2 and PS3 were all sold at a loss. The PS3 was sold at a massive loss, with Sony bleeding through the teeth, but they deserved that. The Kinect is the reason the Xbone is $100 ontop of the other OS types. Microsoft needs to subsidize their gaming experience for their consumers if they want their sales to jump up at launch.

Microsoft didn't profit off the origional Xbox.
Microsoft also sold the Xbox 360 at a loss early on in it's lifetime.

I'm not saying its a bad thing, companies taking a financial hit to provide us with cheaper hardware benefits everyone, Sony leading the charge in that regard was a good thing for competitive reasons.

However, $100 is a pretty small drop in the bucket this day and age and it probably allows Microsoft some wiggle room over time to drop the prices farther if sales become sluggish.

Makes sense. I read that MS profited early on the 360 so I didnt think the 360 launched at a loss. Thanks for the update.

If I were Microsoft, I would either bundle the Xbox One with a ton of games to offset the higher price or make Xbox Live free as an answer to Sony's charging for online multiplayer. Microsoft needs to be extra generous to win back gamers.

It could be an option for retail games but i dont think it's mandatory

Is $100 more really that much? over here ps4 is $650 and xbone $750 but $100 is the price of a game in nz so doesnt seem like much more to pay.

It is automatic and you don't see that happening.... that's already confirmed for both consoles.

Quote:
Similar to the Xbox One, a 500GB hard drive has been chosen for internal storage - not exactly surprising bearing in mind that these units currently offer the best value in terms of gigs per £/$. However, the difference is that as with the PlayStation 3 the unit can be replaced with any hard drive of your choosing (and presumably that includes SSDs too). There's a point of deviation with Xbox One here, as the hard drive in the Microsoft console is not user-replaceable. Here, the additional USB ports are used for external devices that boost overall system storage capacity. Bearing in mind that the Blu-ray drive on both systems gives up to 50GB of potential storage for games and that installation is mandatory on both consoles, that hard drive could fill up very, very quickly.

We also have final confirmation on the optical drive utilised - a 6x CAV Blu-ray unit. CAV stands for Constant Angular Velocity, meaning that the disc spins at the same rate no matter where the reading head is. This means that data contained on the outer edge of the disc is read in much faster than that contained on the inner portion. This was much more of a big deal for current-gen games (which mostly run from disc) as opposed to next-gen where hard drive install is mandatory. In order to make the experience as friction-free as possible, games will load the absolute minimum and then "stealth install" the remainder onto the hard drive in the background as you play.

drop the kinect and possibly...but wasn't the price of XB1 due to these ram issues I've been hearing about?
