Forums - Nintendo - Why Nintendo won't drop the price of Wii U this year

I think the actual reason is because they already did it with the 3DS, and the resultz were not that great. Short term results.

Not great at all. It only saved their handheld business....

Once their line up of games kicks into gear they will cut the price of the wii u. It is the same tactic they used with the 3ds. Combine price drop with enticing new games and it will jumpstart the console... Basically it is how you perform video game cpr...

Most probably it can resist until after Xmas clearance sales before an official price cut, but only if Ninty is damn serious about relaunching it, combining a good Xmas titles range followed by some more good titles around the price cut period, to boost its effects as much as possible. Possibly some good Xmas and price cut bundles too.
Last but not least, using free online multiplayer as PR weapon against MS and, since PS4, Sony too (just like Sony used very well the DRM and used games issues against MS). To avoid PR backfire, though, Ninty should remove region lock.

Would that even work out well? Nintendo isn't really known for being the online multiplayer/online infrastructure console imo. You can't play the big games like bf4 and cod ghost(not sure on this one though). They are behind both ms and sony in that regard.

Good PR underlines favourable parts of reality and ignores or downplays unfavourable ones.

If you think next gen only (no ps360 version) multis can pay thenselves on the Ps4 and Xone launch install base you'll be dissapointed. publishers will put heir games on wii u because they have to.

Are there any games that are next-gen only multiplats that include the Wii U? So far, everything seems to be either only PS4 & XB1 or cross-gen. This seems to be because if you bother making a Wii U version, you might as well make a PS360 version due to the similarity in power.

let's see how long that lasts. if last gen games need more than 1M sales to break even do you think they'll make it on Ps4 and Xone small installed bases?

about your last statement: haters gonna hate. good luck trying to get Curé Syndrome.

I'm not hating the Wii U, I have one lol. And it is pretty much a given that it is similar in power to the PS360.

The PS4 and XB1 are so similar they will only have to reach the Wii U installed base combined to get better third party support, due to the ease of porting between the two.

If heavily advertised they could use it to gain some leverage and become better known for online.

it's easy porting between the three and it will be done.

Then why are there no next-gen only multiplats coming to the Wii U?
